Most likely intended, since they are entities.
Also, it would make sense. Since it's made out of wood.
Yes, but it wont destroy. That's what doesn't make sense.
This happens with paintings too. Is there a report for that, because this would fall under the same category.

I think they fixed this, unfortunately.
Fixed in 1.8-pre2.
