This isn't a duplicate of MCPE-16641. The mechanism here does not try to power the piston from the front, instead what powers the piston is the block to the side (which is weakly powered by the redstone dust on top of it). This mechanism works correctly in build 1.2.2.3.

If you should power the piston, shouldn't the repeater go into the piston, and not the block in front of the piston?
Or possibly in order to get the full monostable circuit, you need two circuits. One to trigger the piston, and one going through the block. The latter will then be either enabled or disabled based on the position of the piston and the second circuit.
Any way, I do believe you need to add some more information to your bug report to clarify what you think is the faulty behavior.
Thank you for your report. This issue was, however, submitted earlier as MCPE-15793. Please perform a search next time to make sure your bug hasn't already been reported. The parent issue can easily be found by searching for "mcpe unresolved piston repeater".
Re-opening, as this was incorrectly resolved. It is not a dupe of MCPE-15793, nor is it related to that bug in any way. However, it is also not a bug. Since pistons in MCPE are not affected by the quasiconnectivity bug, the only way a piston could be powered through the method you described is if pistons could be powered through the side with the head of the piston. However, pistons cannot be powered from this side, regardless of the method used, so that is why your contraption doesn't work. This behavior of pistons not being able to be powered from their face side is also in the Java edition, though the quasiconnectivity bug causes it to not appear this way in some cases. (In the monostable circuit design, the piston is quasi-powered by the repeater, I believe.) Therefore, I am re-resolving this ticket as works as intended.
