Loaded chunks sometimes don't render until the player moves their head slightly
The bug
This bug happens in two different circumstances. Nonetheless, it appears to be the same bug, and I didn't want to duplicate my own bug. If you believe these are different issues, let me know and I can make a new one.
- If you increase your FOV, the chunks that were previously out of your view do not come into view until you move your player's head slightly. (This is a very old issue which was once fixed but has returned (this part was in 1.16.5); I don't know the original ticket number.)
- When the world first loads, chunks, usually 4 or more away, occasionally do not render until the player shifts their head slightly. (This is a new issue which did not happen previously, since one of the 1.17 snapshots.)
Steps to reproduce
- Stand on a platform ~15 blocks up in the sky. (This is just so you can see the chunks better.)
- Set your FOV to 30
- Look around a bit
- Crank your FOV all the way up, but don't move your mouse once your game is unpaused.
-->
Notice that the chunks do not come into view properly.

Can confirm, it does seem to take a little bit of time second. Possibly related to MC-223350.
Relates to MC-224986, but not a duplicate; the mentioned ticket is only about chunks generating for the first time.
While MC-214808 and MC-214898 were marked as fixed in 21w18a, the issue still persists (at least to some extent). (I am not entirely sure which issue is the problem, or if it is both. I believe it is the former, but I may be mistaken.)
The underlying issue seems to have been greatly improved, but there is still evidence of this bug which cannot be seen to such an extent in 21w05b. I loaded my world, and when I logged in there were no chunks around me except for the one I was in even though I had already generated The End. At first I thought I was experiencing MC-223350, but the chunks are not loading at all, let alone not rendering. I was able to move around and the chunks were still not loading. This occurred in the overworld and The End.
This may be the underlying cause of MC-225061 as this issue occurred in the same world as said issue. Though it may be unrelated.
Attached is a force-crash report.
I had already force-crashed when I experienced this, though it said "Saving world" before the game closed. My render distance was set to 16 and 17 while experiencing this bug.
Duplicate of MC-223350.

As the reporter of MC-223350, this seems like quite a different issue.
This definitely isn't the FOV change bug, so it must be comparative to the world not rendering until the player moves their head after the world is first loaded. However, said issue is not present in 1.16.5, so this is likely a distinct bug, as this one is exclusively reported in 1.16.5.
Would MC-223350 happen to describe your issue?
yes MC-223350 describes my issue

My previous posts of this issue were labelled as duplicate despite it being completely different from MC-166508 and MC-223350. So I have reposted. I ask you to have technical knowledge of the lighting/chunk system before grouping it with a vaguely similar issue. This is its own thing.
A server with 8 chunk render distance will only have 7 chunks displayed by the client, the outermost ring of chunks are not rendered despite them being complete by the client, you can see them render by using a mod that lets the clients vision move freely without moving serverside (free-cam), when viewed this way its apparent that the chunk has complete lighting and pallette, so why isn't it rendered? (even with client view distance at 32)
If this problem (intentional or not) were fixed, it would increase the view distance of every player on every server by 1 whole chunk, greatly improving quality of life for everyone.

A server with 8 chunks render distance will only have 7 chunks displayed by the client, the outermost ring of chunks are not rendered despite them being sent fully to the client, you can see them render by using a mod that lets the camera move freely without moving the player serverside (free-cam), when viewed this way its apparent that the chunk has complete lighting and pallette, so why isn't it rendered? (even with client view distance at 32).
In the video attached you can see this in action. I use a free movement mod to move only my camera and when I enter "unloaded" chunks they are actually loaded (the data is there) but not rendered by the client normally.

Dupe of MC-220541
I don't get it. This is not a duplicate of MC-220541. This has nothing to do with the nausea effect. This is about moving your head and chunks popping into view when they weren't rendering before.
If this truly is a duplicate, then the information in this bug should be added to MC-220541, as the said bug only mentions nausea and says nothing about changing your FOV or when the world first loads.
I can confirm this. I agree, it is not a duplicate of that ticket, but it is closely related.
Yes, the first part is closely related. The second part is not as closely related. I've posted on Reddit for this bug to be reopened, but I am considering splitting the bug into two reports by creating a new one only regarding the second part of the issue, as I am not sure whether they are the same or not. Being that this bug was resolved as a duplicate of MC-220541, I really doubt that the two different parts are the same bug, seeing as I've seen the first half of the bug in the game a long time, but the second one I have not noticed before.
Not the same issue as MC-220541.
Would definitely relate to MC-220541.
Confirmed in 1.17.1, not entirely sure why this has been marked fixed when it hasn't been
Affected Bedrock Edition too. But it's randomly happening without steps of reproduce.
