Mobs not spawning / rarely spawn on transparent blocks (pressure plates, carpets, etc.)
Hostile mobs no longer will spawn naturally on pressure plates in "End" dimension. Easiest to view with endermen in the "End" dimension.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enter End dimension
2. Fly over 128 blocks from any spawnable areas.
3. Use any means (/fill, /copy, MC Edit, etc.) to place a block below the player.
4. Create a 7x7 platform of stone.
5. Place a 2 block high, 1 block wide wall of glass from one side of the platform to the other, this prevents interaction between the two sides and doesn't allow mobs to spawn on top of the wall.
6. Cover every block on ONE side of the wall with pressure plates.
7. Fly ~30 blocks away in any direction while still looking at platform.
8. Fly back to platform.
Mobs most likely spawned on the side with NO pressureplates. No mobs spawn on the side with pressureplates.

You are having a warped point of view from why it won't be fixed.
From OldGanon, one of the zipkrowd guys:
"Mobspawning is now based on the sections of a chunk instead of a whole chunk in the lc value. this change slows down most mobfarms. On a positive note, if you stack up on your mobfarm now, it won't slow it down permanently."
This change was made to fix
MC-7473. If Mog reverts the fix, then the client LC will do a half-assed job in reflecting the server LC again. The only solution is to stack your Enderman farms, I guess.

Could not reproduce. I've been testing my enderman farm across the snapshots due to MC-47979 and have never had any issue with pressure plates (stone or wood) coming off.

Also, your Java is very out of date, I would strongly suggest updating it to the latest version (1.7.0_55): http://www.java.com/en/download/.
- When using a 32-bit browser on a 64-bit operating system the automatic version detection will only show the 32-bit version of Java, the 64-bit version needs to be downloaded manually: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp.

Could not confirm. When I tested both this and my ender-ender (Docm77 design) in 14w06b, I did get spawns on the pressure plates. HOWEVER they were very, very much rarer than in any previous snapshot, and when given the choice between pressure plates and not, about 80% were on blocks without. While they do spawn on pressure plates, it would still seem there is a bug in spawning.
I can confirm that spawn rates themselves are much slower. Even without pressure plates. I used Panda's tripwire endermen farm and found that in the latest snapshot, the rates are reduced by as much as half.
@Cullen Carns - I was worried about that, a switch of farms to the tripwire design would be not "too" bad, but if spawning rates as a whole are down that wouldn't really fix anything.
@David Truog - That is why I posted it as a different bug, it had nothing to do with pressure plates. I hope it gets fixed, I was just about to make the farm on my server then that happend. If I were to guess the problem, I would say maybe the lc value is treated as 255 even though its 127. That may be the problem.
This was created first and seems to be the same root cause, just a bad description/title. I've got a half finished farm and noticed the drop instantly when trying to repair tools, it is one of the key reasons I'm not using this snapshot yet (other than testing). I too hope it is fixed, otherwise I may need to supersize another farm and rig it for XP (the pigman farm maybe, joy for more obsidian grinding).
--Mods - should this bug be updated or a new one more specific to the general cause be created? Can we get some sort of confirmation as to if this is a valid bug or an intended functionality change?
Yes, mod should definitively change the subject and title of this bug as it concerns all non-solid / transparent block like pressure plates, carpet, rails, tripwire and any dimension, not only end, as I explained here :
MC-50190edit : thx tails !
I believe it's still affected in 14w11b
can confirm that in 14w11b, same with my slimefarm (like Docm77 built it on the Mindcrackserver)
Problem still occuring in 14w17a..
Mobs still don't spawn in 14w18a
Mobs still don't spawn in 14w19a
can we please get an official word as to weather this is a bug, or intended? as it seems to have broken a lot of xp, ender pearl farms.
Can you try deleting the plate in the center?
Still not working in 14w20a and 14w20b, would be cool if it gets fixed or if an official tells us wether this is intended or not
This might be a side effect of the LC = chunk to LC = 1 block fix. It won't be fixed, as Mog marked it.
Ok. So it breaks every endermen / witch / wither skeleton / zombie pigmen farm. And it will not be fixed. Thx. ggwp
Mog (Ryan Holtz) Can we actually get some insight about why this won't be fixed?
Seriously, more than a half of the most involved players use farms to improve their gaming experience (mostly youtubers : the two last comments justify it).
If there is a good reason to upset those players, can we know about it ?
This is probably this biggest bug in the 1.8 snapshots and should be Mojang's #1 priority in the bug fixes. I have heard that this might not be fixable and if so, get rid of whatever is causing it.
Anyway, I've found a way to make an enderfarm with a very high spawning rate in 1.8 snaphots (no pressure plates and no endermites).
So this is intentional and is staying? I've spent the last few months working on slabbing the nether for a wither skeleton farm that will now be useless?
Could anyone explain what they mean with "Won't Fix"?
vis: What they mean with "Won't fix" is that this is expected behavior by Mojang.
azenet but I don't get the difference between "Works as intended" and "Won't fix"?!
"Works as intended" means that it's a feature. "Won't fix" means that's it's not necessary wanted like this but it will stay like it is.
At least on my mind.
Okay thank you!
