Launcher loses all saved installations after changing to the MS Store version
- Open the %appdata%/.minecraft folder
- Create a copy of launcher_profiles.json
- Delete launcher_profiles_microsoft_store.json
- Rename the copied version of launcher_profiles.json to launcher_profiles_microsoft_store.json
When I opened up the Minecraft Launcher today, I saw an alert that told me that there was a new Launcher version that I could download from the Microsoft Store. I said, 'alright,' and downloaded it.
But, alas, upon opening the Store Version I discovered that all my versions were gone!
If I open the Old Version, it still has all my versions.
I don't wanna have to redo everything, pleas fix.

As i said this isn't the same as MCL-19986 if i do anything in the new launcher it will reset after i open it again. This has absolutely nothing to do with that
This is not a duplicate, I'm having the exact same issue where it basically resets and loses all launcher settings. While MCL-19986 is a similar issue, they are NOT the same. To add to this, I assume that the person who posted this also has to log-in every time they launch the new launcher. If that is the case, this is because for some reason, the new launcher is creating temporary files (.tmp files) of the launcher files that are normally saved. As of right now, there is no fix I know of this, but please look at the screenshot I attached.

Yesterday I upgraded to the new launcher found in the Microsoft Store, after this I uninstalled the old one. I set up my account and used the workaround to fix MCL-19986. Today I opened it up to play offline because that's how the old launcher worked, however it appears that the sign in method has changed effectively removing the offline mode and making it impossible to access the Java Edition. Upon opening the launcher, it displays my Microsoft account. When I click it, an Xbox Live window opens up and says that I am not connected to the internet. There are no buttons to click that would allow me to continue offline. After clicking the X on the window, the launcher says that something went wrong and I am unable to continue. Fortunately Bedrock Edition remains usable as I can launch it from the start menu.

My issue is extremely similar to MCL-19986, but with a clear distinction. I wanted to lead with this so it doesn't get immediately merged and resolved. I haven't trawled the site to see if this specific issue exists elsewhere.
A couple of days I was playing Minecraft: Java Edition on version 1.18 with OptiFine installed. Today, there are only two "Installations" in Minecraft, "Latest Release 1.19" and "Latest Snapshot 22w24a. The aforementioned issue recommended replacing the "launcher_profiles_microsoft_store.json" file with the contents of the "launcher_profiles.json" file.
My folder does not have that first file(_microsoft_store). There are still 32 folders in the "Versions" folder, but none other than the latest are shown in the launcher_profiles.json file. As far as I can tell, nothing has changed about my computer or Minecraft installation since I last played 2 days ago.
How do I solve this problem? Every tutorial or solution I have found is about the "microsoft{}store" file, which I again don't have.

I'll also clarify that the option marked "Show historical versions of Minecraft: Java Edition in the Launcher" is checked, and makes no difference.
I was able to confirm this; I kept the old launcher open while the new one was installing, this might or might not have caused the issue.
I've added a workaround, this should fix the issue without the need to redo all your profiles manually.
It appears that UI state is reset as well (most importantly the "snapshots" checkmark) but that's way less intrusive.
i guess because they use different launcher version so they just reset your modded and other minecraft installation

the old launcher used

a reddit post about a third party launcher modification I won't mention here initially required you to rename this file to install (but no longer requires that) my understanding from the instructions is that the file is identical, only differently named. if you go to your minecraft installation, you should (hopefully) find the old file and should (hopefully) be able to rename the new file to something else (just in case) and then rename the old file to the new name and launch the launcher to gain access to your previous versions again.
not my instructions, I have not tried this, and although there were positive posts saying it worked for them in the reddit thread, do so at your own risk and make backups. That said, based on what I read there, I feel 90% certain this will work without any issues.
my recommendation to resolve this "bug" would be to add to the new launcher install script to check for the existing old file and copy the data from it into the new file on install.
It's actually stunning that Mojang didn't think about this when making the new launcher, or before releasing it.
