Launcher does not open a window after being opened
edit: Original report below the line. Actually figured out what was causing the issue.
Moving the .minecraft folder using an NTSF symbolic link, for example by using a tool like steammover (http://www.traynier.com/software/steammover), causes the launcher to hang itself without any window shown.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Starting the launcher creates two instances of minecraftlauncher.exe, one stuck at a constant 25% CPU load, one at 0%. Ram usage varies between 6mb and 70mb for both. Cannot really identify a pattern there.
No log file is created. The file itself gets created, but remains empty.
My system has already been checked for any kind of malware or whatever that may affect the launcher. Several reinstalls of the launcher as well as plenty of restarts also did not help. The updating works fine every time, the launcher stops doing anything after it got past "unpacking launcher" whenever I do a fresh install.
PS: This is a last resort effort to get back to playing. A threat on http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/support/unmodified-minecraft-client/2792870-launcher-hangs-with-no-window-showing-at-25-cpu as well as 2 hours in the IRC linked on the mojang support page did not result in anything. Help me Obi Jeb Kenobi, you are my only hope. Ive got stuff to build after all. :>

I will add the important parts of your report to it.
See MCL-5569, the .minecraft folder must not be a link or a ntfs junction with the new launcher

Starting the launcher creates three instances of the MinecraftLauncher.exe, all three hanging at around 0% CPU load. Actual Launcher window doesn't appear and it's stuck forever at this stage. The only logfile I can see is the "nativelog.txt" created next to the MinecraftLauncher.exe.
I have tried to reinstall Minecraft from the latest installer, it's getting installed and updated correctly, but when it tries to start after all updates - same thing happens. Initially this happened to a correctly functioning install with no apparent changes AFAIK.
This is not directly connected to MCL-5569 since I've not used NTFS symilinks, and tried reinstalling in two different locations with same result.

hello,
I bought minecraft a little while ago, but the launcher does not start.
at the first time, I see an update window, download the various files, then says "setting up runtime" and other writings, then closes and nothing happens.. it create two processes with the name "Minecraft Launcher (32bit)", but nothing showing up.
i also trying to close them and reopen the launcher (directly from the folder, as administrator, not from the desktop connection), the same thing happens, I see the two processes but on video does not appear nothing, I noticed that in the .minecraft folder there is only one file (launcher_log) and that's it. I attach here both this file and the other 2 log files and the process screen.
things I've tried:
- I followed the
MCL-5569discussion open here proving what they suggested but I did not solve anything. - I uninstalled the game and deleting the various files that remain after uninstalling and reinstalling everything but nothing.
- I have updated all the drivers (both motherboard and gpu).
- I tried to download the alternative download but from the exact same problem with the same identical logs.
- I tried to download an old version of the launcher and it opens, but it tells me "javascript is required to view this site" in the middle and inserting the data (correct of course), it tells me "can not connect to minecraft.net, obviously I have no problem connecting to the official site.

Also found this blog, it's the same to me with the Junction Point: MCL-5569
I just did test it out myself on a Virtual Machine.
An installation on a normal setup windows 10 works fine and the launcher starts normally.
If there is a Junction Point in use for the users folder the Launcher is unable to start in foreground and stays as a zombie process in background.
Funily it still creates the .minecraft folder in %appdata% and uses resources off from my system.
Hope you can fix it. I wanna play Minecraft without being forced to push my Userfolder back to drive C: just for one game.

If there's no launcher_log.txt in the .minecraft folder, is there a nativelog.txt and updatelog.txt in your installation folder? (By default on windows, that's C:/Program Files (x86)/Minecraft)
Uri: No. The Process starts twice, but no window is showing up. The only way to notice that anything happens at all is to check Task manager for the minecraftlauncher.exe process.
Dinnerbone: .minecraft folder? I had the Minecraft launcher installed at various places including the default, the game itself however with its.minecraft folder defaults to appdata, and was moved by me to my SSD using steammover.
I checked the Minecraft folder of the launcher for the log files, launcher_log.txt generates, but remains empty no matter what. nativelog.txt and updatelog.txt is nowhere to be seen in the launcher folder,
I check the .minecraft folder for any logs once im back home, and also undo the steammover stuff as well as try a complete reinstall including the .minecraft folder. It is quite possible that the launcher freaks out due to the .minecraft folder link from my C: drive to my SSD.
Updating asap.
Just undid the steammover folder link and moved .minecraft back. Launcher updated again (first time it did that without a prior reinstall), and then actually started.
So I moved .minecraft back to my SSD via steammover, and tried the launcher again. It got stuck as it did the entire time.
undid steammover, works. redid stemmover, broke.
I tried it about 5 times in total, exactly the same results the entire time.
Updating the report.
Your issue sounds more of an issue with Steammover, check the folder moving methods in the comments

my post got doubled or whatever to this one. But i have an UpdateLog, nativelog and launcher log in all folders
. Will paste contents
Nobody knows how to fix this?
Undoing the link can solve this?
it should
regarding the possible solution: it didn't work.
Please help this although reverting back to the old launcher worked but its very laggy and you cant get the latest snapshots
Also i have intel i3 not nvidia
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft Launcher version 2.0.1003 / 2.0.1004? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. If this has been done, we can reopen the issue.
Keep in mind that the "Resolved"-Status on this ticket just means "Answered", and that we are waiting for further information on whether this issue still exists or not. It will be reopened it as soon as the requested information has been delivered.
yes it still is although I fiddled around with my hdmi and vga cables and that fixed it but it happened again and i don't know how to fix it.
Also I didn't report it so I can't change it.
Are you using a tool like Steammover? If not, your issue may be of different nature.
Hey! I'm a complete newbie when it comes to anything like this, but I have been experiencing the same problem, and I've found a manual, but not permanent, fix. After pressing Launch the Minecraft app doesn't appear of course, but if you go in to Task Manager, scroll down until you find both the instances of the minecraft launcher, by closing the bottom one with more memory usage, it closes both of them and makes the Minecraft window. Hope this helps! Still waiting for a permanent fix, because having to do this every time I want to play Minecraft is quite the pain!
but i can’t find a second minecraft on my task manager
Ok so I just found this thread, and apparently, as the first time it has happened to me, if you select the launcher window, even if it's stiff invisible, using the Tab key you can select the launch button and it works. You can guide yourself with the small preview when hovering the mouse over the icon in the side bar. Maybe it helps.
