iOS crashes if you play with internet on
Issues specific to the iPad are tracked in MCPE-173580. Please do not comment further about iPad on this issue.
So Minecraft is working fine and I am able to play, but after watching a video about the new 1.20 stuff being on bedrock experimental I rush to update Minecraft. Now it just loads the main menu screen and crashes after a few seconds. I didn’t even activate 1.20 stuff.
UPDATE: turning off internet seems to work to solve this, however this isn’t a reasonable permanent solution as it disables realms, servers, and any kind of marketplace content. Note that turning internet on again after loading Minecraft will allow realms and servers to be usable, but marketplace and world templates from the marketplace are disabled.
UPDATE 2: I’v seen this only effects my IPad, as opening Minecraft on my phone account with internet enabled will not crash it, and I see the marketplace and Minecraft Legends event.

Updated my sons' iPads to 1.20.12 yesterday and they now are unable to log in to their Minecraft accounts. We get a Drowned code. We have un/reinstalled, restarted device, and I have tried adjusting their online permissions with no change in result. iPads are on update iOS 16.5.1(c).

Current temporary solution:
- go to settings and turn off Wi-Fi
- open Minecraft and open a world
- without pressing “save and quit” press home button and turn Wi-Fi back on
- Return to Minecraft and exit world. If realms/servers aren’t working try join and leave world again. (If sound isn’t working at this point press home button, wait a few seconds, then rejoin) Do not at any point fully close Minecraft, only press home button to exit
This isn’t a guarantee things will work 100% of the time, just something I’ve found works well enough

Referred here from the other thread: MCPE-168304
I'm on the latest iOS and the latest Minecraft update as of July 26th 2023 (specifics are in my original comment on the other thread).
For me, Minecraft crashes within 20-30 seconds of starting the game around 75% of the time. The only times I've been able to log into my realm are when the Global Resources Pack failed to load previously, which seems to delay the Marketplace loading. The catalyst for the crash appears to be the Marketplaces connecting to the internet.
I cannot play the game at all after installing the 1.19.70 update to my iPad mini 4 yesterday. The game forced me to apply the update when I tried to play on my paid realm. After the update Minecraft now crashes before it can properly load the main screen. My iOS version is 15.7.3. I have not been able to get the game to successfully load. I restarted my device and same problem. I will try reinstalling the app today. Prior to update it had no problem loading and I could see the main screen, and I could select play and see all the realms I play as well as my own. This update is the cause of the crashing.
EDIT: Uninstalling the app, rebooting device, then reinstalling worked. Luckily I had no local worlds saved. I only played realms. But I DID lose all my edited characters and now have to remake those. Players with a lot of local storage will have a headache due to needing to backup everything first. An update shouldn’t cause these kinds of time consuming problems.
Thanks for the advice. I have over 900 worlds and some that are 1.3 GB though, so I guess I will be waiting until Mojang fixes it.
Experiencing something quite similar. I tried disabling wifi before loading Minecraft and that lets the game load without crashing. I can re-enable wifi after the game loads and then create or join friend worlds.
However, Marketplace stays disabled. I suspect there is an issue related to loading Marketplace that is related the the crash. I tried clearing my Marketplace Cache and clearing other cached data from within Minecraft but that does not seem to fix the issue.
It's my son's iPad and he makes heavy use of mods and HIVE. Not sure if that is relevant or not. Without Marketplace he cannot access either but at least the game is loading now.
I am also having this issue. The hotfix update released today that states the issue is fixed did not fix the issue at all. I am also using the solution @v33v3 suggested ie. Turning off internet connect until fully launched, however I cannot access marketplace at all either, even once internet reconnects. Very frustrating.
The same problem (crashing about 5–10 seconds after main menu shows) that started with 1.19.70 remains for me with 1.19.71 (iPad 10.5", iPadOS 16.3.1)
From an affected user via Mojira Discord:
Turning the internet off temporarily until I had a world loaded worked. Once I was in that world, I turned on my internet, left that world and entered my Realm. But the Marketplace won’t load.
Same problem for me. The internet solution worked, and even if you go out of the app it still loads. Marketplace can’t be accessed or realms though. But servers and multiplayer worlds can.
I can load with internet on with my iPad, but its not signed in with microsoft account. Is the hang/crash on sign-on?
I tried loading without internet, turning it back on and signing out and signing in again, and it crashed. I think the problem is definitely to do with signing in with internet.
Update: This bug is still happening in 1.19.80
It’s still happening in 1.19.80. It doesn’t seem any different. I open the game and at any point from the load screen to playing in a server the game will crash. It doesn’t do it every time. I have deleted the app and redownloaded it probably a hundred times since this started. It’s the only way I can get the crashing to stop long enough get into a server and play. Fortunately I accidentally lost all my servers before this so I only use realms now. Turning off Wi-Fi and loading the game first helps but it doesn’t always work.
Experiencing the same issue. With Minecraft crashing on an iPad between 1-10 seconds after opening. Again can be partially fixed by turning Wi-fi Off going into a world and then turning Wi-fi on. Once actually in the worlds they work fine (or as usual) even with high resource demands e.g. lots of mobs being spawned. However, marketplace and purchases not available with this solution. Occasionally by retrying and retrying the entry I can get with the Wifi on and access marketplace but it seems at random and is very frustrating not to be able to create worlds with purchased mobs. iPad is 3 years and decent amount of memory left. Reinstalling minecraft has not worked nor has applying all the recent updates including the jump to 1.20
Update: Issue still exists after 1.20.12 update
Update2: Issue still exists after 1.20.13 update
Additional info: iPadOS 16.5.1 (c)
Storage 56GB or 128GB used
iPad (8th Generation)
Thankfully this bug was fixed for me, it just seemed to go away after IOS updates and Minecraft updates. I hope it gets resolved for you!
I did notice that the bug didn’t happen on my mums iPad which is the exact same as mine, maybe it’s tailored to each device?
It also effects in iOS 12.5.7 with Internet on.
Please confirmed this bug, it effects in iOS device and it's very terrible.

It is not just IOS it's Android too. Under bug fixes for 1.20.12 it says fixed a crash on ios devices? So it wasn't fixed? Someone reported on Anroid when they load the game it's crashing. It was reported as a duplicate to this bug? This says IOS but it's both. Not sure if wifi has anything to do with it? Creating a new world worked for a few minutes. Playing an older world worked for about 5 minutes then crashes. Goes to black screen then home screen. I think these are 2 different bugs?
I am also having this problem, Minecraft 1.20.12 and IOS 15.7.7 on an iPad Air 2. If I do the turning off of Wi-Fi, it runs. If I can also log out of my Xbox account, it runs. But using a realm takes some acrobatics to pull off. It seems to be whatever code connects to Xbox account that fails and crashes the system.
Any word on this Minecraft developers? This bug has made Minecraft unplayable for the past few months. Please update if there's any logs etc. that can be collected that would help.
Also experienced this problem on iOS 16.5.1 and Minecraft 1.20.12.
Things that I found make the game take longer to crash immediately after loading to the main screen: opening settings, opening the achievements, and opening the dressing room. Managed to load into a realm and play for about 10 seconds from each of these methods. I'm assuming servers are the same way, but I haven't tested that theory.
Turning internet off when loading Minecraft allows me to load, create, edit, and delete worlds with no issues. Essentially, it runs as normal with no internet.
Two scenarios I tested:
When turning on internet after home screen is loaded, I am unable to load worlds, realms, or servers.
when turning on internet after loading Minecraft and logging into a world, I am able to save and quit and return to the home screen. However, I am unable to load worlds, realms, or servers.
I started experiencing this issue after connecting to the Hyatt Guest Wifi on a recent roadtrip around New York State, which my first time leaving my house's wifi after a couple months. It is worth noting that I took my iPad to Iceland in late June and was able to connect to realms with zero issues there.
Another little thing that could be significant: the version of Minecraft I'm playing on has been downloaded on my iPad since at least 2018.
Also doesn't affect my iPhone, which is newer than my iPad.
TLDR: game works without internet, everything internet related causes game to crash
This is also happening to me on my iPad Mini 3 (Late 2014 (Time iPad introduced)). I analyzed when this issue is happening and when not.
Versions: iOS 12.5.7 Minecraft 1.20.12.
What will make the game crash:
When I was loading a world with WiFi the game also crashes but it didn’t in my test. However, it will not crash when turning on the internet after it loaded.
Also the Marketplace is inaccessible even after turning on WiFi after loading because the game will mark it as an “Invalid Session”.
iPad Minecraft crashes within 10 seconds of opening app to play, no matter what updates/uploads I do.
I am also experiencing the same problem on my daughters iPad. She has a fairly new iPad less than two years old. We are up-to-date on the 1.20.12 update. We have shut her computer down, reached out to support, downloaded all her worlds to iCloud, I was about to delete the app and reinstall it, and hope for the best, but then I found someone who was willing to help me. They suggested turning the iPad on airplane mode. This worked and did not crash the game. I was able to then put on Wi-Fi while still being on airplane mode, and was able to play my worlds. However, I can’t get into any realms or marketplace. I definitely am voting for , the team to figure this out by Mojang and Minecraft. It’s extremely frustrating when we’re not on airplane mode and want to play with friends or access our marketplace and can’t. I’m glad we are not the only ones.
I am experiencing the same issue. With Minecraft crashing on an iPad between 1-10 seconds after opening. Can be partially fixed by turning Wi-fi Off. Marketplace and purchases not available with this solution. I can't restore my purchases from when I deleted the game and reinstalled it. I even reset my iPad and internet router and that still had no effect. It is very frustrating because I have made many in game purchases. If I make a new account I am not sure that would even work, and I would lose my purchases.
The issue has been fixed in 1.20.13 Hotfix Update
Great to see that the bug is fixed and the new update 1.20.13 … however when is the new update coming out so we can all play again? I hope it’s soon!! Thanks to user who commented below.
This is probably going to be fixed as in the change log https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/17824860671117-Minecraft-1-20-13-iOS-Only- , and the wiki https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Bedrock_Edition_1.20.13 .
The issue has been solved with me with v. 1.20.13. However, Snooky said it is still crashing in this comment. I am using an iPad Mini 3. Comment if it’s still crashing or not. Also report which version is your device, and which device. Also, don’t forget to update Minecraft to 1.20.13.
I'm still experiencing this issue.
Commented here previously; Problem is fixed for me in 1.20.13
Comment which device you were using.
Resolving as we believe this is fixed in the 1.20.13 Hotfix for iOS.
For any ongoing or new issues, we may need to track these separately if specific repro steps and device information can be provided. Please be reassured that crashes such as these are logged automatically, and will be looked into further by the development team.

Not resolved. This still occurs on 1.20.13 on iPadOS. Please reopen and investigate.
As it seems there may be a specific issue remaining, it would be best to track the issue you've described in a new separate ticket, please, with steps to reproduce: https://aka.ms/BedrockBug
This is still happening for me using 1.20.13 on iPad.

Issues specific to the iPad are tracked in
MCPE-173580.This is not resolved for me. I had this trouble on an older device. I bought a brand new iPhone 14 and got two months didn’t have issues. Now after no new downloads or updates, seeming like out of the blue, my game crashes within 5-10 seconds of opening it. I have deleted the app and reinstalled it. It I don’t sign in as myself the app works. As soon as I sign in through Xboxlive it crashes. I can’t play anything.
Can confirm 100% not resolved.
iPad Pro 11inch m2, iPad OS 17.0, Minecraft 1.20.13.
Exact same behavior. It launches, red Mojang screen, character loads on the bottom right, then BOOM. Crash. Over and over and over. Please resolve this!
@eric_chavinky Are you using beta version of iOS 17? Beta version sometimes have some bugs, you'd better not to use iOS 17 while you playing Minecraft.
I am having the same issue. Has this been resolved? If so where do I find a link to fix this.
