XBOX ONE / PS4 Controller Sensitivity - Missing Deadzone
Hello,
I honestly tried searching for a similar "issue" but it was hard to tell who is playing what, so my apologies if this has already been said. First off, congratulations on the update/new game...it's very exciting and I'm confident everything will smooth out in time.
My "issue"... I've noticed when playing on Xbox One with the Better Together version, the controls feel extremely sensitive...to where it's near impossible to get the same experience as I did on the xbox one edition of minecraft. On the original xbox one edition, looking left or right was no problem, but with this new version...I can't keep it from drifting up or down. I understand there's a bit of a "dead zone" that would keep this from happening, but with the Better Together/Bedrock version, looking left has turned into looking left and slightly up or down and the same for looking right...it just seems to float either up or down when looking left or right. I just wanted to bring this to your team's attention in hopes that it can been be adjusted...also, the maps in split-screen (vertical)....most of the map is gone and completely invisible if held in hand. Anyway, thank you for your time.

I’m confused. Are you playing Xbox or PS4? Because I can’t reproduce this issue on my PS4, but the Legacy Edition related

Hi dear developers, I had a problem due to the misaligned alignment of my gamepad, my character goes back myself, in other games it is very easily solved by increasing the dead zone but in minecraft it is not there, please add the dead zone setting, or return it so that it was like on the old console version, I wrote several times here but you are constantly combining my problem with MCPE-27451, but no, there is a completely different problem that has nothing to do with mine!

@Albert Long and Tamiz Rumey Jiffrey: thanks for trying to help. This appears to not be an issue that can be fixed by Minecraft's sensitivity setting, since that only affects the speed of movement. This is an issue of the controllers having no deadzone.

This may be the same issue being tracked at MCPE-27451. I'm looking into whether that ticket is strictly device-specific. In the meantime, could you please update the Affected Version/s on this ticket?
Does this happen in inventory and chests (MCPE-71256) or in general (MCPE-27451)?

We seem to have more people reporting that the deadzone on XBox One is too small or non-existent (MCPE-27451). Do you think there could be a hardware issue or setting that is impacting your controller performance in Minecraft?
@user-189af No, it's reporting the exact opposite issue of MCPE-27451.

My apologies...why was it an option?
You can change the sensitivity under Settings > Controller > Sensitivity.
Thank you for your suggestion, but I did try adjusting that setting. When adjusting that setting, it seemed to focus more on the speed rather than the direction, which is the problem I'm experiencing. When looking left or right in the game it floats either up or down. I've tried other controllers, same issue.I have come across other users with the same problem. Perhaps it's a threshold adjustment? Thank you again for you quick response...I'm sorry if I wasn't clear with my first entry.
On bedrock when you try to move your head up or down the directional sensitivity of the analog stick makes it tilt your head a bit left or right while trying to look up or down. Same goes for looking left or right. When you try to look left or right your head will probably tilt up or down. On the legacy edition when you look up or down it will tilt your head straight up and down unless you put a little more force on it on the analog stick to tilt your head left or right while the analog stick is tilted up or down. Again same goes for left and right, when you look left or right you have to put a little more force on the analog stick to tilt your head up and down while the analog stick is tilted left or right. In the bedrock version when you look up or down your head will turn a bit in the X or the Z axis direction instead of only the Y axis (up and down) This has nothing to do with the sensitivity of the speed your head turns.
If you look straight forward then spin around left or right at 360° for 15 seconds straight your head should NOT be looking a bit or completely down at the ground or a bit or completely up towards the sky by the end of the 15 seconds. Your head should still be looking straight forward.
If you tilt it left it should just go left, if you tilted right it should just go right, not a slight bit up or down, if you tilt it up it should just go up, not a slight bit left or right. if you tilted down it should just go go down. I recommend making this a option in the settings to turn sensitive direction turning off so you don't ruin the experience for PC and Mobile devices.
This is my version of it, or duplicate.
I can confirm the problem is on Bedrock PS4 and I am tired of this issue. Please add a parameter for that.
This issue is always in work of fixing ?
Right stick of the PS4 controller. Drifts resulting in player slowly turning left. Happens with both of my controllers but only in Bedrock, not PS4 edition or any other PS4 game.
They marked my post as a duplicate, but I actually have a different problem:
MCPE-62141Deadzones on Xbox One are extremely massive, and make the controller not respond until you turn the stick to about 50% lock.
Allow me to elaborate, as there is some confusion in this thread as to what a deadzone is. There are two main types of deadzones:
Regular Deadzones are a percentage of the range of motion of your analog control surface where no motion is registered. This is usually employed to counter stick drift, but makes the game unpleasant if made too high. In my case, Minecraft has massive deadzones.
Axial Deadzones cover the areas of a two-dimensional analog control surface in which all inputs in those areas are normalized to a common angle, usually a cardinal direction. This makes it so if you're pointing your stick around the general angle of a cardinal direction, it will output as exactly that cardinal direction. Minecraft completely lacks these deadzones, and this is the issue that OP posted about. My issue is not the same, though it was marked as a duplicate.
All this can be easily, easily remedied by adding a deadzone slider, a mind numbingly simple software fix.
Update 3 years later, I think the the controls are good the way they are for looking around, a strong deadzone would make it feel like your controlling a tank
You joking ? Because The deadzone never change, it's the same since the beginning of Bedrock. The deadzone is too sensible, I have an original PS4 controller and my character move and turn alone. I don't call that "good" ! I really hope Mojang gonna do something quickly because it's irritating. Just need to add an adjustment bar !
Also having extreme constant right stick drift on bedrock ps4. Started out of the blue, well after an update. Even tried buying a new controller. Problem is only with Minecraft.
I can't tell if it's the same issue on Nintendo Switch because I'm used to Bedrocks controls and not Legacy's, but I'll just throw this here just incase.
Having this issue on ps4. 2 controllers, one drifts on only the right stick, the other drifts with both sticks.
Neither of them drift on other games at all. It's incredibly frustrating and makes doing everything difficult.
just bought series x xbox and minecraft is unplayable compared to bedrock ps 4 i have to move the stick half way to get som reaction deadzone is way to big make it small or ad options to adjust in settings please it is sad to see that the game is worst on xbox than on ps4 and its defenatly unplayable this way i used gamepad tester and the sticks are imediatli responsive when app deadzone is set to five so its defenatly a minecraft issue
I ,too, have been experiencing my avatar moving either the camera or person with out my control. For a while it was forward drift. Now, its both character direction and camera turns in a circle to the left. I have played other games recently to test if this was a controller issue and it is not. Also, I test led adjusting the sesitiviy and it does not effect the issue. At this point the game is unplayable. It is really heart breaking to have this issue now that PS4 now lets you share worlds.
I had this issue but manually turning down the sensitivity worked
My issue with the remote, is that when looking left to right it follows the sensitivity setting but looking up and down is excruciatingly slow. Does this need to be fixed or am I missing something?
This is the reason why I can't enjoy Minecraft using a controller and I'm upset about it.
But it is not only the deadzone but also the acceleration curve that is in desperate need of an overhaul or option to fine-tune it like the curvature and the angle.
The other option would be to be able to choose from different presets like flat, curved and dynamic like many other games do (especially shooter games where precision is important). And let's be honest, Minecraft is a game where that's the case as well, especially in PvP Minigames that also have PC players in them or when you want to hit that one skeleton archer to not die.
Because right now it seems to be just a flat acceleration curve that has a really rough start (high deadzone value) followed by no real dynamic in the output, and as a result, just feels unresponsive and clunky because of that.
I spend an hour trying to visualize this with the following image:

*Xbox Series X
EDIT: The horizontal and vertical sensibility are also so decoupled from each other that looking up and down takes ages compared to looking left and right. And that's also frustrating when trying to build something, doing farming and so on. I hope that get's decoupled or at least improved on in the near future.
I also have this problem but im playing on PS5 controller, i tried with another controller And I knew that the problem was not in my controller, I talked with expert and a Minecraft gamer and he told me to restart the device and it didn't work, he told me also to try it on another device And the same problem occurred ,he told me to turn down the sensitivity and it didn't work, If the problem is with the game, also when i restaeted the device the Problem solved but when i press L2 and R2 its happens again
Just commenting to confirm that this is still an issue and makes the game nearly unplayable. Playing Bedrock Edition (specifically in a Realm) on PS5 and getting insane controller drift that makes the game nauseating to look at. Really hoping this will be fixed eventually; I was just on Reddit and it seems this is an issue that many people are still having (and have been having for years now) and it's really impacting my enjoyment of the game.
This just started happening to me after the 1.20.32 update, i did not have this issue before unless it was happening as a result of lag. it doesn't seem much activity has been happening with this bug but it would be really great to have some priority as it is very frustrating and game impeding.
any updates? i would submit a new issue about it but it would just get labeled as a duplicate of this one by the bot. This is a really annoying bug and i have done everything i can to try to fix it on my own but this is definitely a minecraft issue, and one the devs really really need to patch
Playing on Bedrock Edition XBOX One Version 1.20.72010. This issue just started for me. I have played on many worlds on my XBOX One. I have played on several other realms and worlds and this newly created one seems to have a near constant drift. When I created the world it was fine, but the longer I played the worse it got. It now drifts forward and to the right. I have to stay constantly in a corner or crouched when I look away from the game so I don't just drift away. I have tried multiple controllers and have confirmed they are not the issue. I would love this issue to be resolved or if anyone has found a workaround that would be great info as well!
I might have found a solution to this unsure but i had the same problem so i wrote an email about it to Minecraft support and they told me this:
"I see that you're experiencing some trouble with your Minecraft game on PS, as the analog stick seems to be moving erratically. I can understand how frustrating this must be, but don't worry, we'll investigate this issue further.
In this case, we recommend that you first restore your licenses.
For PlayStation 5:
This surprisingly worked very well and haven't had any problems with it yet i even tried in different worlds and servers and still worked great even after closing the game and opening up again the only problem i encountered was that you now could see how precise the analog stick was so even if i moved it one millimeter in the inventory it quickly jumped over to another slot which is an easy fix if there were deadzone.
They also told me that:
"Should the issue persist, rebuilding the database can help alleviate issues with the game. This can be done through Safe Mode on your PlayStation. Please note that some Safe Mode options will result in the loss of data. Be sure to back up data to a USB drive or Cloud Storage before selecting these options.
1. Turn off your console by holding the power button for three seconds. The power indicator blinks for a few moments before turning off.
2. Once the console is off, press and hold the power button again. Release it after you hear the second beep — one beep sounds when you first press, and another seven seconds later.
3. Connect the controller with the USB cable and press the PS button on the controller."
Hopefully this works for you guys as well enjoy
