Crops are harder to plant continuously
Revised description by [MCPE Mod] Auldrick
Since updating to 1.2.13, crops can only be planted continuously in consecutive blocks in a straight line, similar to how solid blocks can only be placed that way, and most take longer to plant than before. Previously, crops could be rapidly spam-planted anywhere on suitable ground by holding the Use control, and if you went too fast and missed a block you could go back and fill in the hole later. Now you must plant them strictly in rows and usually at a slower pace than normal walking speed. The only crops that seem to plant at walking speed are sugar canes, cocoa beans, and perhaps nether wart.
Steps to reproduce:
- Select any crop and prepare a rectangular area suitable for growing it on.
- Attempt to fill the prepared area with the seed, root, etc. for the crop by holding the Use control.
- Use various speeds and directions of motion and observe the sequence in which planting occurs.
Expected results:
When moving at normal walking speed, every suitable selected block gets a plant until you select an unsuitable block, release the Use control, or run out of seeds..
Observed results:
The first block gets a plant. A second plant is placed only in an adjacent block. Subsequent plants are placed only in the next adjacent block in the same direction. For most plants, there is a delay in placing a plant that prevents continuous planting at normal walking speed.

@Mega_Spud, I do not think this bug reports the same issue as MCPE-32345. They are related, but not the same.
MCPE-32345: can only plant in a single row/direction; any deviation causes the planting action to stop until the button/trigger is released and re-pressed.
This bug: even if planting in a single direction, the planting does not occur quickly enough to fill every block, and about every 3rd or 4th block will be skipped.
As of 1.5.0, the issue reported in MCPE-32345 has been fixed. I can walk in any direction I want, holding the left trigger to spray carrots around the field and it will try to plant in any farmland block I cross. Used to be I had to walk in a single ordinal direction, along a single row. So MCPE-32345 is fixed.
As of 1.5.2, I still cannot walk down a row at normal walking speed and plant every block in the row, which is what this bug is about. Every 3rd or 4th block will be skipped because the planting animation does not complete in time. Basically Steve can walk across a block faster than the planting animation completes, meaning every 3rd or 4th block there is a skip.
Perhaps the fix in 1.6.0 that you noted for MCPE-32345 also fixes the bug reported here, which is great. But this bug is not a duplicate of MCPE-32345, IMO. I've experienced both and only one of them is fixed at the moment in 1.5.2.
Affected 1.5.2. This is not the same issue as MCPE-32345. We can plant backward, forward, left, right, and diagonal. While hold trigger, I can spin slowly while planting a row of crop or spraying across crop without having to re-press trigger to start planting over.
This ticket only points at skipping part while planting/ re-planting. Skips occured only in a straight line whether it's north/south or west/east.
Diagonal planting seems not affected.
Crops can still be planted continuously, but there seem to have been some changes that limit it and make it more difficult. You must now plant in rows (you can no longer "paint" the crops all over a rectangular space), in consecutive blocks, and most plants take a little longer to be planted so you can't walk continuously as you do it. If you miss a block, planting is interrupted, but if you continue to hold down the Use control and return to the missed block, the planting will resume. I have updated your summary and description to accurately reflect the new behavior.
So I m ok with what you said but actually don t work.
I tested it with all seeds in direction straigth and parallel, crop 1 and nothing after. I have all my seeds farm on 2x20 rows and actually don t work.
I can record it on xbox but how to see you I m press button for proof ?
I don't have an Xbox and I don't know what it's like to use an Xbox controller, so perhaps it works differently on Xbox than on a PC. In any case, the moderator who reports this to the developers will take notice of your original description and both our comments, so the issue will be looked at from both viewpoints.
I can confirm that this is an issue. With the last update it's a lot harder to plant things even when you only plant in a single row. You used to be able to have a farm where you ran across a bunch of farm land in front of dispensers with bonemeal now that doesn't work.
Most of my farms that I need to use manually are broken now. You can't even feed cows continually with holding to a button anymore. It's really killing my leather farm and my sheep farm.
Ok so after many try was really slow, and work only in one line row. Each direction different of the row will stop planting. So if you have little farm ok but for peoples like me who have like 100 seed to plant, now it's quicker to spam place button than hold it ... So it's really annoying please fix it !
Can you see mine please, it was created before this....
MCPE-32397I would like to add to this topic. Prior to the "Better Together" update (1.2 I think), we had the ability to "paint" crops, meaning if you were standing still or walking, you could hold down the plant crop button (example: mouse 2 button) and continuously plant crops on any fertile ground. As long as you held the button down there was no interruption of the action. This was a huge quality-of-life benefit for users who performed a lot of farming activities.

^ I don't find this action to be accurate. In the 1.2.13 update if the "planting" action is interrupted, I still cannot resume planting by holding down the Use control. Once the planting action is interrupted it never resumes. The slowness of the planting now, the interrupting action, and inability to "paint" the crops as before, Minecraft farmers are only left to click-spam planting crops.
For users like myself who utilize farming in their survival worlds, this is a quality-of-life issue - which has led to me basically giving up Minecraft since the 1.2 update and giving up my paid realm. I decided to stop playing until these bugs are fixed. I log in occasionally to see if the issue has been fixed.
The continuous harvesting of crops has been fixed in the 1.2.13 version (bug
MCPE-25909) which is a huge step in the right direction and I was so happy to see this fixed. Hopefully the issue of planting crops will be fixed soon too.I'm playing in 1.5.0.4.
I'm able to plant continuously, but only walking forward on the 1 row. But it stops when you walk over a block that's already planted, and. You have to aim just right.
Fixed in the 1.6.0.1 beta
Affected 1.5.2, for more information
MCPE-35857Note that this bug is a different issue from the one reported in
MCPE-35857. I will post a comment in that bug as well. This bug is reporting a problem with planting direction, not walking speed. The bug here was that you could only walk, say, North and plant a continuous row. You could not walk in a Z-pattern or anything other than a straight line. It has nothing to do with skipping occasional plantings when walking.
For what it is worth, the issue reported in this bug appears to have been fixed as of
1.5.01.5.1. I can plant in any direction I want, walking in a Z-pattern or randomly and a plant will be placed in any farmland block the cursor crosses (mostly - see the completely different bugMCPE-35857).I think this bug here can be marked Resolved, but
MCPE-35857cannot (as of 1.5.2).Resolved as fixed.
