Although we are tracking the main issue at MCPE-36274, could I please ask for some extra information that might help us pin down the problem?
- Could I please ask what your PC specs are? (RAM, CPU, GPU spec)
If you like you can run dxdiag and copy the relevant information from there. (Win+R → dxdiag) - be sure to remove any personal information, just the PC specs would be useful.- Do you use a VR/MR headset?
- What game settings do you use?
(Render distance, simulation distance etc. If you like you can share the options.txt file here.)
- When exactly do the problems start to occur? (either freezing up or increased memory usage that have been mentioned)
- Does it happen on startup, in the menu, or when playing?
- Does it affect single player or multiplayer?

When loading my Survival world, Minecraft severely lags for about 5-15 minutes, then crashes. The world is about 37.8MB, but when loading my Creative world, which is about 0.04MB, Minecraft lags for about 3 minutes, but then loads the world successfully. In both cases, a background process called Service Host: Web Account Manager starts and sucks up 30-80% of CPU, exhausting Minecraft of resources, causing the lag and crash. This is related, but nowhere near the same as MCPE-36274.

I don't think this is a bug in the game. Web Account Manager is a Windows 10 service that performs OAUTH, a way of signing in to one site using your sign-on credentials on another site. In this case, it's probably trying to sign you in to Xbox Live using the same Microsoft account you use to sign in to Windows. I could see a problem with that if your Windows 10 isn't up to date, or it had an update failure, or if you're not actually signing in to a Microsoft account when you sign in to Windows. (That's possible, just not the default behavior.)
It also seems odd to me that you're getting a "program" called "Service Host...". Service Host is the supervisory service that manages all other services in the system, including the Web Account Manager service. Service Host doesn't have a user interface, but sometimes it sends notifications when it has a problem. The notification probably includes an error message that gives information about what the problem is.
Although I don't think this sounds like a bug in the game, I can't really be sure so I won't close the ticket. But unless you can give us a bit more information, such as an error message or code or a screenshot of what you see, I don't think we have anything to work with yet.
@Aulrick Well, this is Minecraft specific, it doesn't happen in the Xbox App, it doesn't on any other UWP app I have on my PC. When I was in a live chat with Microsoft support, they said that Web Account Manager and a few other programs are combining together to make one program. Also, there is no notification. I can see in Task Manager that it uses 100% of CPU. Which crashes my PC. Alos, there really isn't anything to send the game crashes my PC, I reboot it, and no error message or error code appears. Windows simply doesn't know that an error occurred. Also, whenever I move my mouse it hangs for 10 seconds, and when I try to leave the app, it crashes my PC, not the game so it doesn't send an error report.
Please believe me, I'm not trying to brush this off. But the fact that this only happens when you start Minecraft (AFAYK) doesn't prove that it's a bug in Minecraft. Whatever is happening is happening as the result of an interaction between Minecraft, Web Account Manager, possibly Service Host, potentially your antivirus software, your router's firmware, and even Windows itself. One of them is doing something it's not supposed to do, but we don't know which one. Since Minecraft is the unique part of the interaction in your case it does make sense to suspect it's to blame, but it's not proof because it could simply be that Minecraft is making a perfectly legal request that Xbox App and the others don't happen to use. The reason I don't think this is a bug in the game is that UWP apps should not be able to cause the system to become unresponsive like this (part of the reason they're sandboxed is to prevent such problems), whereas Service Host (which runs outside the sandbox) has higher system privileges and definitely can.
BTW, if Microsoft support said programs were "combining together", that was an oversimplification. They were talking about this interaction. Programs don't literally "combine together to make one program", they just interact to request services from each other.
First things first, though. Did you try to reinstall Minecraft? Although unlikely, there's an outside chance that a corrupt installation might cause this problem somehow.
If that doesn't help, the next thing to try would be Windows Update. What version of Windows 10 are you using (Home, Professional, Enterprise)? Is it allowed to update itself regularly? In your Windows Update History (Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View Update History) are there any failed updates showing in any of the categories?
A Fresh Start installation of Windows might solve the problem, but it's inconvenient so I'm not recommending that at this time, and I've never done it so I wouldn't venture to walk you through it. That would be something to pursue with Microsoft Support.
If it's not Minecraft's direct fault, it is still a problem with the game, or a problem with a process it uses, which should be fixed since 1. It crashes my PC and 2. Doesn't work right. I'm using Home, and have tried to uninstall Minecraft numerous times.
Absolutely, but Mojang can't fix code that Mojang doesn't have, and it can't play middleman between you and whoever does have that code since it only happens on your PC. But for now we'll treat it like a Minecraft bug, because I don't want you to feel like you're being given the runaround.
Waiting for the answers to the other questions. Also, can you be more specific about "a program called Service Host: Web Account Manager opens"? As I said before, Service Host doesn't have a UI window, so I'm trying to understand exactly what and where on the screen you're seeing this.
Great Thanks! In task manager, I can see it running.
Ah! That makes a lot more sense now. It's running as a separate process, which is what I would have expected. Now that I understand that, I can see how it might be possible that the bug really is in Minecraft.
Since MegaSpud closed your earlier ticket for this problem with the comment that crash dumps are reported and investigated automatically (which is true, and that would be the best way for the devs to figure out what's going on), I'm going to look into whether there's any way we can verify that we have a crash dump from you. If there is such a way, maybe I'll be able to assure you that it's in the queue. At that point I'll close this ticket because crash dumps are a top priority and bypass the bug tracker. On the other hand, if there isn't any way to verify that we have your crash dump I'll let you know that too, and then maybe we can figure out some other way to get more information about this.
I feel I should warn you, though, that it's still possible that this isn't a Minecraft bug, and it concerns me that you're avoiding answering my questions about Windows Update. If you're not running a "normal" copy of Windows and keeping it up to date, that's much more likely to be the cause of this problem.
My copy of Windows is completely normal and is up to date.
I have found out that there's no way to resolve crash dumps back to a particular PC, but it turns out that other Win 10 users have had this problem with Web Account Manager. WAM is a new service introduced in Windows 1709, the Fall Creators Update, and it apparently causes conflicts on some machines. You can read about it and try the solutions that have worked for some people at this link.
(I wouldn't try the first suggested solution of disabling the WAM service (called Token Broker internally), because that will prevent you being able to sign in to XBL and other Microsoft services. But there's another solution, by Ted Hardy on June 30, that sounds promising for you.)
If that doesn't help you resolve this problem, you can try going back to Microsoft Support armed with the knowledge you've gained and the link to the report so that they can't brush you off again. Even if MS Support can't resolve the problem for you right away, showing them that it's a bug in Windows should get it into their internal feedback and bug fixing system so eventually there should be a patch for it in the monthly updates.
Finally, it's possible that a later update to Minecraft might circumvent the issue. Although it's not a bug in Minecraft, if we're getting enough crash dumps from other people with this problem, the Mojang devs will look for a way to tweak the sign-in process to avoid triggering the bug. Unfortunately, since crash dumps can't be related to individual bug reports, the only notification that they've done this will be in the changelogs.
I'm closing this ticket now since this isn't a Minecraft bug, but I'll continue monitoring it for a few days. I hope you can get this resolved soon.
Ok, thank you for being a mod who actually cares. Crossing my fingers!
Forcibly disabling Web Account Manager service solved the problem! I'll be reporting this to make sure nobody else has to encounter this in the future.
how do I disable web account manager?
The link is in my comment above. Note that this is not an official recommendation; you do this at your own risk and we cannot advise you or help you with it. I would advise you to be confident that you can reverse whatever you choose to do, before you do it.
For those affected, could I please ask for some extra information that might help us pin down the problem?
If you like you can run dxdiag and copy the relevant information from there. (Win+R → dxdiag) - be sure to remove any personal information, just the PC specs would be useful.
(Render distance, simulation distance etc. If you like you can share the options.txt file here.)
Just so you know, the Minecraft options.txt has gotten reset in the process of trying to fix this issue, but, it still doesn't work properly with these reset settings.
No.
It doesn't happen until the Mojang and Minecraft screen are done right when the "What's New In This Update" screen pops, once you move your mouse it freezes.
Thank you for your help.
Thanks for the extra information! Does this happen 100% of the time, and does the issue persist if you are not connected to the internet?
Yes, it happens 100% of the time. It does happen offline as well.
Confirmed to affect 1.8.0. Screenshot attached. Now persists to use ~40 to ~80 percent CPU even after Minecraft has run out of CPU space and has crashed. Please note, this screenshot was taken two minutes after Minecraft crashed and has been persistent, from starting MC, all the way until two minutes after MC has crashed.
Minecraft updated to 1.9.0. The problem still persists.
Minecraft is unplayable.
This is a major issue that Microsoft and mojang should together in other to fix it. Honestly nothing the "MOD" is saying will work. I have reply this issue and it was closed plus I have restarted my PC when this happens, I have also reset and reinstalled it. I have even went as far as reinstalling windows but the problem still remains. This all started when the April 2018 updates was released and still happening (shocked!) The solution I found to live with this 😑 is to,
1. Use windows version 1709 below. I don't recommend this as it can put you to security risks.
2. Open task manager before you open Minecraft. Go to services, look for web account manager. Stop it (it will restart on its own) wait until its starts again and stop until it stop restarting. Once you achieved this click restart on the web account manager service then try restarting and stopping it until it reaches a low number. After you done that open Minecraft.
1.11.4 version - issue is still here. Have to stop and disable TokenBroker service every time to play MC, if service is running - MC is not playable.
Just updated Windows 10 to ver.1903 and problem is gone.
Last few weeks also had issues with logging into ms office account, so may be issues were related (i have personal and work accounts on notebook). But anyway MC works fine now - no lags, no issues.
@Schortan Why was this issue reopened 10 months later? Also it is an issue with Xbox Windows services before Windows 1903 that was fixed
Since this appears to have been caused by a Windows 10 issue that was fixed in a past Windows update, I will request this report to be resolved as "Cannot Reproduce."
