I read the comments for bug MC-15416 and the linked duplicates but none seem to address a situation where the item simply disappears without fighting or armor breaking. I was simply walking and the item disappeared (brand-new lvl 30 enchant bow). I pulled another (full health) bow from a chest and the same thing happened. I pulled a bow with approx. 80% health from the chest and proceeded to kill what needed killing. Then I returned, replaced the 80% bow, created a new bow, and had it disappear almost immediately. After reading the bugs I checked my armor - I still have it all, none of my armor items are broken.
This must be what is happening! I reported the issue being as my sword randomly breaking, but if your post is true this explains it. Someone needs to confirm this and fix it.

Uhh, lost two newly heavily enchanted diamond swords and bow probably due to this issue.
So THAT'S why my diamond sword disappeared!

Some time during beta, I remember having some tools break randomly, is this somehow linked?
Lost really good stuff because of this :/ Well, i guess i have to check on my armor frequently until the new snapshot comes out

This bug is not fixed in the latest snapshot! I tested this and the item still disappears.
This bug is obviously causing much anxiety. Please fix this!
We know. If you were to, perhaps, glance up at the header of this ticket, you might realize that the issue is fixed for a future version, not 13w19a. There is nothing Mojang can do about bugs already in a released version.
John, just select the previous version 13w18c and you are good. But now - just go watch the Eurovision song contest. Minecraft lead developer is sitting in the audience anyway
