The Bug:
Blocks are occasionally rendered too dark upon being instantly mined.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Summon a large area of sand and give yourself a diamond shovel enchanted with efficiency by using the commands provided below.
/fill ~1 ~ ~1 ~10 ~4 ~10 minecraft:sand
/give @s minecraft:diamond_shovel[enchantments={levels:{"minecraft:efficiency":5}}] - Switch into survival mode and mine several blocks of sand using your shovel.
- Look closely at the sand blocks as they're mined.
- Take note as to whether or not blocks are occasionally rendered too dark upon being instantly mined.
Observed Behavior:
Blocks are occasionally rendered too dark.
Expected Behavior:
Blocks would never be rendered too dark.

The bug
When insta-mining blocks, they appear dark for a split second. For instance, this can happen when mining stone using an Efficiency V pickaxe and having Haste 2.
How to reproduce
- Obtain the Haste II effect and obtain a netherite pickaxe enchanted with Efficiency V
- Mine stone
Observed behavior
Occasionally, some faces of the blocks surrounding the broken block appear dark for a split second.
Expected behavior
The blocks would not appear darker than they should be for a split second after a surrounding block is broken.

Can this still be reproduced in 1.16-pre8 or later?
Hi,
Yes, I confirm for 1.16 pre-release 8. Some block drops are black for a moment while insta-mining. I found the result with sand and gravel with a shovel efficiency 5. It is very brief so I took a lot of screenshots to capture the issue.
I personally noticed this for the first time since 1.15.2 so it may be linked with
MC-167359(which has been resolved recently).I found a video where issue is visible at 3:04
