Weighted Pressure Plates fail to recognize stacks as multiple items
weighted pressure plates no longer recognize a stack of say... Dirt, as 64 items- each stackable item will combine and give the same output as if only one block in the stack was there.
only unique or unstackable items contribute to signal the signal strength of either weighted pressure plate(not including mobs or players)
[note how 11 diffrent items on the heavy plate are equaling the signal strength of 65 items (64 stacked, 1 not) on the light plate]

Just found this bug. Along with MC-29778, this makes weighted pressure plates practically not useable ![]()
So you can for example weigh how many mobs are standing on that pressure plate? Ok, interesting ... but with MC-29778 you still can't properly weigh items.

Duplicate of WAI
MC-29778
Weighted pressure plates does not retain power while items are still on it.
This is the problem of a single item type. Similar to MC-29778.
On the attached pictures you can see 2 pressure plates, the on the left has 8 different items, the one on the right has 8 items of a single type.
Actual behaviour:
Left pressure plate retains the power of 8.
Right pressure plate flicks between the number of items and then goes back to 1
Expected behaviour:
Both pressure plates retain power if items are on it.
Steps to reproduce:
- Place down Golden pressure plate with comparator (2020-11-16-12.21.32.png)
- Throw 8 items on a pressure plate by quickly pressing Q (2020-11-16-12.21.37.png)
- Observe power goes to 1
- Power changes to 4 (random range between 1-8) (2020-11-16-12.21.39.png)
- Power goes back down to 1 as entities merge in (2020-11-16-12.21.44.png)
Note: This has been observed on both Iron and Gold pressure plates.

Could you clarify how this is different than MC-29778?
The pressure plate does not recognize a stronger signal strength when the items become one larger stack, which is WAI based on the resolution of MC-29778.
Specifically, this line describes the same thing reported here:
"weighted pressure plates no longer recognize a stack of say... Dirt, as 64 items- each stackable item will combine and give the same output as if only one block in the stack was there."

i noticed other issues with the W.pressure plates, but i figured they were intentional to some degree, and may be deserving of a DIFFERENT issue report if any at all.
-Both weighted pressure plates are lighter, gold going up in strength every item/person, and iron every 10 or so.
-plates now respond to players as well as items, and appear to have the same "weight", as a player can substitute themselves in place of an item and contributed to signal strength
-as it stands now it requires half a player's inventory slots to reach full power using Gold plates, and about 4 player's inventory's worth of items using the iron plates
It had been said they would no longer detect item stacks, although removing that functionality is bad considering that is an irreplaceable feature which some people have managed to purpose. As for everything having the same weight, that could either be intentional or in the works for a fix. Right now, it's good for counting entities on a plate. If different kinds gave off different weights for it, a random mob could wander onto them and really mess up a system. It's an odd balance.
they removed stack recognition... on purpose? <
where did they say that?
I am surprised that way plates count items was entirely changed since it will completely break any mechanism already built just as much as any other change to redstone features; i honestly can't guess at why any one would have proposed OVERWRITING the function of the W.plates rather then just adding in like... a Quarts weighted Pressure plate with the new features they want.
its not like they weren't adding in fistfuls of new items any way.
and thanks in advance for showing me where they talked about removing stack recognition
Confirmed.
Still a problem in 13w38c ... just found out all my redstone stuff containing weighted pressure plates is broken. Thanks Mojang
Confirmed for 13w39a/b !
If this is a new feature my entire map that iv'e been working on for around a year is completely broken.... Lol
@Trent Thornton: Then don't use alpha versions for projects.
Well that's kind of the thing; Trent, Zombie, i would strongly recommend NOT planning to incorporate any features from future versions at all in any longterm project now that you actually have the option to downgrade the build you use. my longest project was only a few months, but i didn't finish it all before an upgrade; i didn't realize it until entire redstone circuits were built, but between official versions there were changes to commands and potions that were NOT listed in any change log and were slow to be corrected on the wiki (which may still not list all the changes).
it pretty much ruined the entire point of my avoidance of mods and only using official releases for my server, and only got worse with following updates, with even MORE unlisted tweaks to potion effects and THIS glaring bug that was released into an official version any way. https://mojang.atlassian.net/browse/MC-18284
i love minecraft but mojang, pls. stahp. you're killing me. is a FULL change log of intended tweaks so difficult to list?
Confirmed for 13w41a/b !
Confirmed for 13w42a/b !
Confirmed for 13w43a !
C'mon Mojang, weighted pressure plates are still broken in 1.7!
After placing half a stack of TNT on the plate, I still get a signal of 1. In conjunction with this, if I stand on the plate, I am considered an item.
Confirmed for 13w47a/b/c/d !
Weighted pressure plates now count entities.
@Torabi:
OK, they recognize one item stack as an entity now, so they count the number of stacks. That makes sense. I think this ticket can be resolved as "works as intended"
i don't know about that... ignoring that mojang decided to REVERSE the function of the W.pressure plates rather then add a new mob counter plate, the fact is plates DO respond to items, and improperly at that. their isn't any reason for them to count just stacks since 1) they don't HAVE to count as entities, they could be ignored by pressure plates 2) any kind of automation involving one of these plates isn't going to easily surpass more then one redstone pulse, and requires a player's worth of inventory space to manipulate effectively. at that, they might as well not respond to items at all since there's no reason to count that many stacks of any thing and not carry it your self since without a player they can't be moved off the plate, and can only ever interfere with something that counts mobs. even though i don't like the feature, i'd still say its a bug because its has eschewed properties from 1.6 that are unrelated to its new purpose and now serve only to confuse people who aren't keeping up with every snapshot
Also affects 1.7.3 Prerelease.
@Avik Bosshardt:
Torabi already posted the reddit link where Dinnerbone confirms this as "Works as intended", so this is not a bug. Weighted Pressure Plates count entities now, not items. Don't know why this is still open.
This problem is still not fixed
In 1.6.2, a stack of 60 items (e.g. 60 dirt blocks) placed on a golden pressure plate would give out a redstone strength of 15. Now in 1.7.2/1.7.4 whenever I slowly stick the same amount of dirt blocks on the plate, the redstone signal begins to increase and then drops to 1 strength. This is not what I wanted for my map! I have a total of 70 diamonds for the players to look for and when they put it in the final scoring system, it will always remain at 1 signal strength. Now I will just have to remove the scoring system and tell the players how they rate by placing a bunch of signs
.
Weighted pressure plates now count entities, not items!

---> "Works as intended". Dunno why this ticket is still open.
Me neither.
Well then it defeats the purpose of being "weighted" because it can't "weigh" (count) how many items are in a stack anymore, So if I had 1000 dirt blocks, the "weighted" pressure plate would just be like it had a single item on it. Mojang, you disappoint me. I will not speak of this matter anymore.
Best of luck with the game
