UE4 Crash when starting
I had preordered the game on the 16th of April 2020 in the Windows Store and downloaded it this morning.
When pressing play, the game starts up to a Black screen for around 3s, after that I see my mouse cursor change and the game crashes with an UE4 Exception shortly after.

try this fix copied from MCD-1111:
So in short what is causing this crash is the game trying to play the .mp4 cinematics to start up the intro and logos etc. but failing to do so. If you can manually play the mp4 cinematics before launching it won't crash on the next launch.
Go to services.msc and restart "Windows Audio" service. You can check if it is fixed by going to the minecraft dungeons folder and looking up the .mp4 files and playing them manually. before the restart it kept saying "another app is controlling your sound", but after i restarted that service both that message and the u4 crashed have disappeared.

Well for me the game just starts with the Microsoft studios logo for one second before giving me a similar error.

I was a beta tester where the game was able to run smoothly, strange im getting a problem with this as well.
I have windows media player installed.
[Note for OP: If you go to "Turn windows features on or off" within control panel and enable media features and Windows Media Player. Your windows should auto install it.]

I'm playing on windows and i've managed to get 30-40 fps even if my GPU is use at 100% all time. But even that i get this crash windows at like every 10-20 minutes of playing online/offline. So i can barely try to finish a dungeons and then it crash! Please fix this or if there is a solution that can let the game continue to play even if the GPU is at 100% let me know! Thank you!

I am also experiencing this issue. The game had been running fine, but crashed same as shown above when I tried to play today.
I have the same problem. What is weird is that my game didn't crash and worked perfectly fine the first time I lauched it. Now I can't launch it without experiencing this issue.
Hi all, just wanted to share something that worked for me. The Windows 10 update supposedly messed with all of my sound settings. I use a program called Voicemeeter for streaming and apparently I was getting some errors there too. I disabled any of the sound related programs (just Voicemeeter in my case) and set everything to default in the Windows Sound settings. Booted up the game and it worked just fine, hope this solves it for some people too

having a similar problem, i am able to start the game just fine, but after about 15-20 minutes of play i get a UE4 crash like this.
all my friends finished the game. I haven't been able to start it yet because of this bug, I would like to play the game. I paid please.
Someone has reported that deleting their onboard graphics card drivers windows assigned and installing the drivers directly from the manufacturer has fixed this problem for them. It is quite common both on laptops and desktop pc motherboards to have a secondary gpu.
It apears that this could be a compile error,
crashes are reported through the crash reporter.

Alright, well since minecraft support won't help, I went ahead and fixed it myself. After trying dozens of different things, what worked for me was to do a complete uninstall of all my graphics drivers using the program here: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
I ran the program twice to make sure everything was cleared properly, then manually reinstalled all the graphics drivers via their respective official websites, and then updated any other reverted drivers via the Device Manager.
As I said, I tried dozens of things to no avail, but this final method worked for me. Hopefully it works for you guys too.

Oh nice, my complaint has been folded into a three year old unresolved ticket. How nice and profoundly frustrating.
I've tried all the tips left by previous users here, and they all failed.
Maybe Mojang can send me $2k so I can build a new computer? It's not like they're going to spend time actually fixing this.
Has anyone found a solution to this? Still having this issue on my 2nd computer. On Windows 10 where I am having problems. Works perfect on Windows 11 for me.
