Launcher cannot establish connection to the internet
An attempt at fixing this has been made in the latest beta version of the launcher. Please try that before trying any workarounds. You can toggle the beta version on in the Settings pane - If you are stuck on the login screen, try the following:
- Locate your .minecraft folder. In that folder, open the 'launcher_profiles.json' using notepad. At the bottom of the file change "channel": "release", to "channel": "beta"
Please post a new launcher_log.txt if you still have this problem in the beta.
Some users have reported that this issue can be worked around by changing the DNS. (Guide for switching to Google's DNS by Ethan Paulakonis in this comment)

I was working from home using VPN and forgot to close it later. Disconnecting from VPN solved this problem for me. I was also experiencing MCL-11112 (where I've posted the same comment).

When the launcher first updated I was already "logged in" but the launcher reported I was not connected and could only play offline.
I tried logging out and logging in but it reports: "Sorry! Make sure you are online and try again"

Edit to add: I cannot even play in offline mode because now the launcher only prompts me to login which fails as noted above
I went exactly through the same as Samir, and I have a very similar log.
In addition, I deleted completely my .minecraft folder in AppData\Roaming and any "minecraft*" folder in my Program Files (x86) and did a new install from minecraft.net. Did not help.
Also tried to allow "C:\Program Files (x86)\Minecraft Launcher\MinecraftLauncher.exe" through my windows firewall, as well as the "Java(TM) platform SE binary" that I have listed in the firewall. Did not help as well.
I also started my Fiddler as admin while trying to connect, and it does not look like any request is being made while I try to connect.
Running Windows 10 enterprise. No mods ever used.

I had not tried previously but just confirmed that reinstalling the minecraft.app (on MacOS) does not resolve the issue.
Is there any way to get this launcher to actually allow offline play? There are 1.14.3 tests I'd like to do in single player before touching my server.

Potential workaround for now before an offical fix. I just used my VPN (Nord VPN) and it's now working. Hopefully it helps some people.

I turned off my wifi and tethered my computer to my phone and was able to login and complete the 1.14.3 download.

I have the exact same problem as well. I logged out of the game to try and fix this, and not it won't even let me log in. Really wish there was a way to fix this. Before I could at least play offline, but now I can't play at all. I shouldn't have logged out...
Edit: I have attached my launcher log to this comment. Hopefully, this helps and the issue can be resolved, as I would really like to be able to play the game again.

if anyone has a phone, they can use their mobile hotspot to get in. It worked for me so im sharing it with you
After additional testing it seems that the launcher's connectivity test is the only piece that is failing when I'm connected to my home wifi.
I am able to start the launcher, fail the connectivity test, turn off wifi, tether to my phone, reconnect (and login if needed), and then once I see the green box showing I'm connected, untether from my phone, reconnect to wifi, and proceed to play including playing online without any issues (so far).
I have added some comments on my log.
Adding myself to the list. And another log file in case it helps.

Multi MC does work fine. Just not the mojang launcher.

Unfortunately, I can't switch to the beta version of the launcher since I can't even sign in. Whenever I try to sign in it says that I am offline. However, for anyone else who just wants a temporary fix to play the game until the regular launcher is fixed, download multimc launcher. I did it and it works fine for me. Yeah i cant even log in either. all it is telling me is to check to make sure im online and try again.
Still an issue for me with the latest launcher beta.
Confirmed workarounds for some users that we've found are using VPNs and using mobile phone hotspots. Alternate accounts are still affected regardless (e.g. logging into/selecting an alt or another account will not let you connect any easier.)
Switched to Beta version and still no connection.
Switching to beta has no effect, even in the log.

Using the network diagnosis tool, which I assume works the same way, it seems that our computers have no problem connecting to the relevant addresses. Only the launcher is not connecting properly.

I tried alt accounts, it does however work on my mac. The machines it doesn't work on for me are all windows with the 1903 build of windows on them. I don't know if there is any connection there??

Hello so i logged out of my mc account and when i try to log back in it says that Sorry! Make sure are online and try again so can a Admin or someone help me please it would help me out a lot
So the only thing that worked for me to fix it was :
1. Open Minecraft with a VPN on
2. Turn the VPN off once you're in minecraft Launcher
3. Start the game and you can play.
(This worked for me, IDK if it works for other people aswell)

I can make a request to https://authserver.mojang.com/authenticate, and it gives me a response.
It's timing out for some reason.
It can't resolve the IP address of the authserver. However, programs like wget can.

Unlike yesterday, today it seems to be more of a hit or miss for me. When I first start the launcher I am "not connected" but clicking the reconnect button seems to work after 2-3 retries.
I also noticed the launcher updated and there's more details in the launcher_log.txt as pasted below.

Can someone try switching their DNS to OpenDNS (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220)
So I got redirected here. for me the problem is (besides everything already said here) that If I get Minecraft to start it always tells me invalid session when trying to connect to any Server. I will attach the launcher_log. launcher_log.txt

by the way a vpn didn't work for me all it said wad incorrect user or password even when I turned it off it went back to saying that I am not online.
Incorrect user and password is easily fixable.
Changing my DNS address worked for me too! I switched to Google's which is 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. For those who are on Windows and don't know how here's what you do (I don't know about apple):

I'd recommend OpenDNS, because it has internet safety features, but Google's will work fine

Also tried logging out, exiting the beta launcher, restarting, and logging in - again no issues.
Beta version did not resolve my issues but changing to OpenDNS did.
To Fix Mine I Just Changed It To Beta In The Settings!

How do i change my game launcher to beta?
Before this issue was fixed I attempted to resolve the issue by logging out and logging back in, I am now locked out and cannot open the launcher because whenever I attempt to Sign in I am met with the sorry message saying I need to make sure I am online, no matter If I am connected to wifi, ethernet, or a hotspot. John Smith and Zach Ruth, just change your DNS address. I posted a guide in the comments if you are using Windows, and it's pretty easy to Google a tutorial if you are on a Mac.
First try whether the beta launcher works though. If it doesn't, you can use the DNS workaround. We need as much feedback about whether the beta launcher fixes this issue as possible.
violine1101, I'm not trying to override what you have told us to do, but for those who have signed out and cannot sign back in because of the issue, it is impossible to change the settings to use the beta launcher. It only lets you do that when you are signed in. Unfortunately, the only way for them to sign in like I did is to change their DNS address.

Had the same problem. Updating to beta and installing the modpacks by launcher helped.
If I use twitch to launch the modpacks... it still has is impossible for me to login. It worked before the patch.
But after some try and error I managed to start all my modded servers again.
When I go on launcher profiles, i cant find channel: release please help.
when I change to beta channel manually from launcher_profiles.json, it automatically changes back to the stable version again according to the log. Currently using Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, and changing DNS does not seem to fix the problem for me. I hope I can obtain any help regarding this problem soon. Thank you.

Yunseong Jung The linux Launcher does not automatically update itself. Whichever version you installed is the one that runs. If you want to switch, install another version.

Fixed:
Head to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\
Delete all host/hosts files.
The reason it didn't work is that the files had a code to make minecraft offline.
Both changing it to beta and changing DNS servers failed. Is there anything else I can do?
If you have a mac and you are experiencing this problem then go to terminal and type in:
sudo nano /etc/hosts
This should command lets you edit the hosts files on you computer. __ After doing so, go to the line it says mojang and then press Control K, this should erase the line. Do this to any other line with Mojang in it. After you are done, press Control X to save and exit terminal. The launcher should work fine now
yea still got the problem even after putting it in beta, changing the DNS server and deleting the host file.

That didn't fix it for me either. Did you restart or anything? I am really curious why the log says was added to the blacklist? Like it intentionally prevents us from logging in I have that exact same thing.
I was working from home using VPN and forgot to close it later. Disconnecting from VPN solved this problem for me. I was also experiencing

Since the last update my minecraft launcher does not connect to the internet and anytime I try to log in it says "make sure that you are online" when I already am. At first I thought it was a problem with Macfee security but the launcher still didn't work. I've turned off my firewall and it still didn't work. I tried changing the dns, deleting and redownloading minecraft, deleting host files, opening the launcher as administrator, but nothing has worked. It keeps refusing to connect to the internet. I eventually tried opening my account with a third party system (multimc) but it says that it couldn't connect to the mojang servers. It seems to have blacklisted my IP somehow. Help.
