Partwise duplicates MCL-1922, but the problem described here is the underlaying problem
The launcher doesn't use the same formatting as Minecraft. One bug caused by this is MCL-1922, another one would be this:
/tellraw @p {"text":"1.\t<--- In Minecraft this isn't a tab, but in the launcher it is"}
This can cause some problems because the way Minecraft displays some text is then pretty different from how the launcher displays the text which makes it more difficult to find something specific in the launcher.
Is this still a concern in the latest Minecraft version 1.3.8? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 14w11b / Launcher version *1.3.11 or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

I can confirm this for the latest launcher version.
I can confirm this for minecraft server 1.8.1 pre4
However, sometimes a server restart fixes the issue. But most of the time I see question marks.
