MCPE-1257[Android 4.2.1] Action Menu doesn't work, Impossible to pause the game. [Nexus 4 & 7]
I'm unable to pause the game, and therefore exit the game, after creating or joining an old world. Haven't tested this in multiplayer, but it fails to work in single player.

I too experience this issue on my Nexus 7 running stock 4.2.1.
having same issue using Android 4.0 ICS (Cmod9) on HP touchpad.
I have found that by using the back button it pauses the game, I dont know whether that has always been there, but I preferred the action menu as it fits in with android's design.
I had the issue on my Galaxy nexus. The menu button did not pause but the back button does. I reinstalled the game and now both work.
I also find it impossible to pause the game. I almost died because I didn't know it didn't truly pause the game.
Actually,after watching the video, I can pause the game, but mobs still attack me.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

It does for me. Pressing escape shows the menu, but the game does not pause. Day changes and mob continue to go about their usual business. I did set it to an offline game. Windows 10 Edition 15.2
Pausing still does not work on version 15.4. Pressing pause button takes you to the game menu but the game still continues. You have to quit to title to stop the game. IPad 3 iOS9
Cleaning through old issues... going to resolve this report as invalid, since MCPE no longer uses the action menu button as of 1.0.3.
