Recently, every update Minecraft Bedrock receives on the Nintendo Switch it tends to get worse and worse performance wise, yesterday I encountered a huge amount of lag in the nether while flying with an elytra. I was trying to activate my firework rockets and didn’t send me flying because of the lag I experienced yesterday and too a while to register that I had used the firework seconds later. Causing me to fall into the huge lake of lava below me.
This keeps happening even if I stop flying for a little while and then resume, I’ve tried to lower my render distance to 6 chunks and still no solution. I also tried to lower the simulation distance and nothing. Absolutely no change what so ever.

Will this issue be addressed soon? I've been waiting over 9 months for a fix. The next major update needs to focus on performance improvements and bug fixes. Adding new features without addressing the core problems only leads to more performance issues. It’s frustrating that instead of a much-needed optimization update, we got a buggy, lag-ridden mess. As someone else mentioned, even implementing the older 4J Studios version would be better. Yes, it’s outdated, but we wouldn't even need that if Mojang prioritized proper optimization over endless new features. Right now, it's all about "quantity over quality," and it’s hurting the game.
Also, why discontinue the 4J Studios builds at all?
4J Studios actually made “Ports” of the game rather than one size fits all situation with bedrock edition. You can’t just mash bedrock edition into every console and expect it to run smoothly.

They need to disable background recording and turn on "Boost Mode" Since other games on the switch have utilized this feature to keep up with 60fps games such as smash, hopefully doing that will help with the switch's performance by freeing up more resources to smooth the frames
Cross-posting from a similar ticket I created yesterday (found here:
MCPE-178439)"Boost Mode" does indeed sound like a great option! Switch version performance seems to be degrading with every new update - Hopefully Mojang can do SOMETHING to remedy the issue.
My family and I used to eagerly look forward to playing Minecraft together on weekends. Now we sometimes avoid playing it altogether, just so we don't have to deal with frustrating lag.
Have searched through various tickets, and it seems like these issues have been known, and reported, for a while.
The Marketplace lag / freezing issues are particularly confusing. I mean, the Marketplace is supposed to be the main way to give Mojang more money. The fact that is it so glitchy, laggy and difficult to use is...Baffling.
There are DLC packs that I have thought about buying, but decided not to, just because I'm worried they would have significant performance issues.
Even in-game is a pain,It has random studdering in graphics and delayed audio even when fancy graphics are turned off and the render distance is turned low (7 chunks) it did nothing, even turned off screen animations but that didnt do anything either,The problem here is that they AKA Mojang,Is not using these other features that even their biggest competitor,Fortnite has disabled background recording in favor of performance.
Boost Mode is essentially the application telling the console to ramp up the Output power or Mhz(Megahertz) of the CPU (Central Processing Unit) and the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) in favor of smoother frame rates. While although your battery and fans may go down more and blow faster,It will give the much needed "Boost" to help the game
Through a technical standpoint,Removing Background Recording with the 30 second clips would help free up resources from the CPU or the main processor to go more towards gameplay along with "Boost Mode" Would possibly help the game last longer for more updates in the future. I would like to clarify that screenshots are perfectly fine its just background recording and the lack of using nintendo's "Boost Mode" to help with optimization and quality on the switch version of Minecraft
That "Boost Mode" option is fascinating - Would love to see something like that implemented on Minecraft Switch. Is it only for games in docked mode, or does it work in handheld mode as well? I ask because the majority of my family plays in handheld mode, and I wonder if it would help them.
And yes, I agree - The in-game issues are incredibly frustrating. For example, when my family and I travel somewhere, and we come to an ocean, we literally have to get in boats and travel a few blocks at a time because the chunks take so long to load. If we travel too fast (in other words, at normal walking speed), the game will stop loading chunks and crash. It's infuriating.
The thing is, my family and I LOVE playing Minecraft together, and things were literally fine until about 6 months ago. It's sad that a game that encourages you to "build your imagination" starts to slow down and lag when you start to build something even "sort of" big. It would be nice to know if Mojang is actively working on this issue for Switch, especially since they are still actively selling it. When I search the forum tickets, all I can find are abandoned conversations and closed reports.
Update-
Boost Mode was implemented in the console itself via switch version 8.0.0 so I apologize for the confusion, I assume Mojang wants users to play on a dock rather than handheld, So some of this is on Nintendo's part with the GPU clock speed only running at 307.2 Mhz in handheld compared to docked which is 768 Mhz so Nintendo is severely bottle-necking (holding back) on the performance in handheld because of the battery in the switch not being that great long term. However, that does not mean Mojang is out of the blue yet, Mojang needs to optimize the game to fit the needs of the console by what was previously mentioned, disabling background recording so that it clears up resources more towards the game than recording something. The main fault after doing some research is that Nintendo is holding back extremely when it comes to handheld mode and it doesn't look like they are going to go higher unless there is a massive outcry to boost the Switch's performance, What we need from Mojang is disabling background recording to have more resources from the CPU and GPU into the game and optimizing the game correctly to make it a smooth experience on the switch
OR
Have them Re-release the older 4J studios version which was much more optimized for the switch as a sort of "Minecraft Classic Edition" Which would be locked to a certain version and receive bug fixes like its a completed game, it would have multiplayer like it did originally and then bedrock would be used for the newer gen consoles, This would make a lot of money and I don't see why they would not take this marketing decision.
Thanks for the updates @ThatComicStenzo - Super helpful! Would honestly be interested in any fix that Mojang comes up with at this point.
In my experience, individual game performance on modern consoles is actually supposed to improve over time, with bug fixes, patches, etc.
Minecraft is literally the only Switch game I can think of where the exact opposite has happened - Overall performance has only gotten worse over time. At least recently.
I played a survival world between docked and handheld and there is a slight difference, while it is a slight bit smoother, the audio studdering and frame drops are a pain, ive tried setting the max fps to 60 to help but that didn't work, fancy graphics are off and they dont do much and ive even switched to the Minecraft classic texture pack and there is still a noticeable studders in fps and audio in handheld and the audio studdering continues even in docked mode.Honesty if someone could advocate to Nintendo about improving the GPU speeds in Handheld that would do wonders. But we need major optimizations not just for the Switch edition, we're talking all editions, Mobile, Consoles such as the Xbox One Or PS4 and so those with potato PCs can play this game as well. If you want Minecraft to be universal then you have to optimize the game to help it run better on older-gen/Potato hardware.
Wanted to briefly post new information - The new update appears to have introduced slight performance improvements to the Switch version, which was nice to see.
That might just be confirmation bias, however.
Was anyone else's copy a bit faster / smoother after the latest update?
I dont see any new improvements with the update,There is still audio delay and frames are still drop in handheld,At this point im just gonna play something else if this switch port is not going to be improved,I gave an idea on what Mojang can do to help mitigate the issue with disabiling clips AKA Background Recording but it seems my voice isnt going to be heard any time soon. Thanks For Nothing Mojang.I hope you improve apon the performance for the next Nintendo console And Release Minecraft Bedrock on Steam For Steam Deck Users.
I play singleplayer on just a regular world and still, the issues apply to that as well.
Trying to play Hardcore mode on the Switch, with the lag / performance issues it currently has, would be incredibly frustrating.
Most times when exploring in bedrock edition on the Nintendo Switch; [any where from half of the world to all of it doesn't render around my character], leaving me blind to mobs and where I'm heading, most frequently over water, but often over land as well.

when ever I'm playing and a friend is joining when ever y game on my system because I'm host it crashes my friends and leaves the game
(it happens every auto save)
maybe make it were you can change how long till the auto saves happen? like the Xbox 360 one ?
@radcoolsteve30 That's more of a feature request than a direct fix. I do agree autosave should be optional and customizable, but please refer to here: Add the ability to disable autosaving and to exit without saving (Feedback)
The more I play MC on my Nintendo switch lite the more performance issue happens. I update my system and game all the time. Trying to redownload the game, clear cash, restart console. But it still long chunk loading happens at start.
As of 1.21.51, the game freezes for about 3 seconds every 45 to 60 seconds, and also freezes for about 3 seconds when the settings screen is closed. Also, while the game freezes, the in-game time continues to progress, which can cause problems with survival. Also, the game freezes frequently on DLC maps, and the same sound is played repeatedly.{}
