Villagers regularly don't close their doors
When I rang the bell in a village, the villagers will go into a building. But when one entered or exited, they didn't close the door. In other cases, they just simply enter a building and leave the door open. As you can see, the first picture was a villager entering a house. The second picture was the villager completely in the house with the door opened. This happened to me a couple times already.

Maybe I'm 'lost in translation' here because my native language isn't english but it almost seems like I'm portrait like some maniac here and at discord.
For me 2 seconds of work isn't too much, it's not needed with every snapshot that I agree with, but I often check my list of bugreports and update them together during the snapshot-weeks.
If that's that big of an issue I'll gladly remove my account and someone else can update them or not.
I'm a long term Minecraft player so yes I'm 'invested" in the game's well being. Those couple of minutes to check if bugs aren't fixed I'll gladly spent on something more useful than potentially triggering some needless attitude.
Happy mining & crafting I guess?
The "sometimes" better be changed into "never". Villagers are simply doomed with this bug.

Place a magma block 3 blocks in front of the player and 4 more blocks (2 extending left and right each), then lure a villager with food.
Observed result: The villager takes damage from the magma block.
Expected results: The villager can path find around the magma blocks to go towards the player.
Also speaking about villagers, I want to highlight a few other serious bugs:

Depending on how a door is placed and what it's 'open' state has been set to, villagers cannot open it and get stuck in front of or behind it disallowing them from path-finding properly.
This is likely because they check the door's block state very literally and do not regard how the door was placed.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Recreate a setup like this:
- Place doors over the wool using the same camera angle as shown in the screenshots
- Place 3 work stations outside of the enclosure, or 3 beds at night
- Summon a villager in each space behind the enclosed doors
Expected Result:
The villager would be able to path-find past the door by either opening it, or walking through it if the door already has proper clearance for the villager to walk through.
Observed Behavior:
Only in the last setup (the door over the blue wool) will the villager be able to path-find through the door by opening it. In the other two setups, the villager will get stuck behind the door unable to path-find properly. In some cases, the villager will spam opening and closing the door.

Notes:
This issue is very similar to MC-256129 and may even be the cause of it, but was reported separately as I did not feel MC-256129 adequately covered this behavior.
The other report focuses on villagers not closing doors when avoiding other mobs, whereas this report covers villagers getting stuck, being unable to path-find.

Can confirm this, they definitely leave their doors open more often than before 1.19.3 too, which may stem from issues relating to
MC-257636Yeah this bug is pretty annoying and is a safety concern for villagers.
In 23w03a
In 23w04a. I've noticed this happens very often with doors positioned like this.

In 23w05a
I have observed this in 1.19.63, but my villagers simply cannot interact with doors at all. They don't close doors behind them when they go to bed at night; they can't open the door to work in the morning if I have closed it for them. The issue is the same regardless of the type of wood door, and in both door positions (front and back of the block space).
I saw one villager go to bed by jumping through the wall of the structure, but most of them don't do that.
LeSaint45 This bug tracker is for the Java Edition of the game only. If this affects Bedrock Edition, please create a new ticket in the MCPE project.
I can go around closing every door, they will be open when I go by at dusk
still a bug
I've just found out it also affects version 1.19.4. One villager almost got killed by a skeleton when it left the door opened. Hope this don't happen in version 1.20. Every night i have to roam the village to check if they closed the door. This is annoying.
This issue started to stop happening in the 1.20 pre-release version.
Just updated to 1.20
Villagers are still not closing the doors after going through.
Seems like if the door is already open they wont touch it after passing through it. If more than one villager goes through the door, the last one does not close it since they did not open it.
Can confirm in 23w32a
I also have this issue since at least 23w33a. Can confirm it's still happening in 1.20.2-rc2.
Edit: 1.20.2 too.
This is confirmed bug in 1.20 1.20.1 and 1.20.2
Villagers not closing doors.
1.20.4-rc1, still happening
This bug is getting worse. I found a village where there are lots of villagers in and out of the house, but the doors and wide open. Is like the house got abandoned, but the village isn't.
It seems they dont close the door, if they are attracted to a Villager what is inside, if there is no villager inside and its to go to there workstation for something, when they do close it.
Confirmed in 1.20.4. Villagers leave doors open, which allows zombies to enter their house, even in Normal. Honestly as a whole, the villager AI needs to be severely overhauled. They are incredibly stupid.
Can confirm in 1.20.6, really disappointing, especially since they got some attention during the trade nerf in 1.20.1
I'd like to become the reporter if the original reporter isn't active anymore. Let me know.
I am original reporter. But the bug doesn't seemed to be fixed
Sorry I thought you went inactive, my mistake.
And about the bug, I know, it's far from fixed. It's even annoying if you like to use the more old fashioned way of playing the game.
Villages are now doomed to be taken over by zombies since it's almost standard that villagers don't close the doors behind them. An obvious bug for the people who play the game but not for those who make big chances behind the scenes. Hope it doesn't stay a bug for 5-10 years.
Well guess this week isn't the right time to start closing doors again, it will be cold when winter comes...
LlamaBN64: Would you be comfortable with Mr_Quasi taking ownership of this report since you're not actively adding affected versions and keeping it up to date? Mr_Quasi is very invested in this report and is constantly requesting new affected versions, so I'd be in favor of transferring ownership if you agree.
Yes it would definitely be better for someone who is so in to this issue.
Can confirm in 24w45a
Seems like they close doors less relieably when it's on the far side of the block they came from, but they still do it both ways.
Can confirm in 1.21.4
In some cases, they even close the door on themselves, although less commonly.
