Clicking "Microsoft Login" causes launcher to force quit
so, today i was made aware that I my need to update my launcher, I updated it and found that I can't login to my Microsoft account that houses my Minecraft account. whenever I try logging in, I click the "Microsoft login" then Minecraft launcher will immediately crash.

You need the Xbox app to download a identifier then you can login
Same issue with the new Windows App. The old launcher works fine for me (aside from anoying me that I should use the new launcher).

I had this problem.
I just solved it by installing the XBox app for Windows 10 (which I'm running)
I felt like the microsoft minecraft launcher was crashing because it lacked something. Since I'm running a version of Windows 10 that excludes mediastuff I didn't have Xbox installed as per default which the minecraft launcher needed to be able to handle the (microsoft) login request
Thanks for the suggestion, but I already have the X-Box app installed. When I press Windows-G it pops up and shows Xbox Game Bar Version 5.721.12013.1.
I also had the gamebar, but the xbox app is a separate app.
What solved it for me is install the Xbox app from the Windows store. Afterwards I had to install the "Xbox Identity Provider" from inside of the Xbox app.
Now I am able to login using my Microsoft account on the Minecraft Launcher.
Why is this not being checked when the Launcher is installed??????????????????

I am now able to login with the new Minecraft launcher after installing the Xbox App and Xbox Identity Provider from the microsoft store, as suggested. Thank you for the comments explaining this. It's too bad that the Minecraft launcher can't give a more helpful error message explaining what is missing instead of just saying "Something went wrong in the login process!".
