So how do you switch to Beta? Currently I'm running v.2.3.508-1.1.32, changing to Beta in settings and closing the launcher and reopening it doesn't change anything.

Moreover, the launcher refuses to save any resolution changes at all, even when creating a "new installation" entry.

Issue also occurs for me since yesterday or so. Used launcher version: Windows 10.0 2.3.508.
Basically no matter which resolution is set in the installation's properties it will simply launch the game in default resolution.
Steps to reproduce:
Hi again!

Also please upload launcher_log file from main minecraft folder in your Application Support folder.
Also please check if this issue occurs on standard release version of the Launcher (not beta).

This seems to be an issue specifically with the beta version of the launcher.
The standard release (at least on macOS with version 2.3.462) seems to behave correctly.
Phoenix616's repro steps will also repro the issue on the beta macOS installer.
Hi again!
@Phoenix616 what MacOS do you use? Does it also only happen on BETA?
This ticket will automatically reopen when you reply.
@Phoenix616 is using the Windows version of the launcher.
From their comment:
Used launcher version: Windows 10.0 2.3.508.
can confirm on here. attached a screenshot and a video. the screenshot is the aftermath in the launcher after the game close, the video shows the incorrect resolution (dotted lines show the correct resolution).
Issue still present in release for this launcher version (2.3.508)
This happens on Linux too. The resolution setting worked fine a few days ago but stopped working when the launcher updated itself the last time.
Minecraft always opens in a tiny default resolution window no matter what I set in the launcher. If I set the resolution, then exit the installation editor and then open the editor again, my setting is still intact but if I launch, the Minecraft launches in default resolution and when I start the launcher the next time, the resolution I set has disappeared in the installation editor.
Also if I manually add the resolution to the launcher_profiles.json file, and then run the launcher, the resolution won't show in the editor and it also gets removed form the file.
The launcher says its version is Linux 5.4.0-132-generic 2.3.508
If I try use my window manager configuration to force Minecraft window to open in my preferred resolution, it will open in that resolution and then immediately resize itself to the tiny default resolution. So quickly that I can see the big window for only about one frame time.
I have the same error: any custom resolution is ignored and deleted by the launcher: Minecraft Java Edition, Windows 10.0.2.3.508
Manually adding the line in and setting the file properties of the .json file to read-only will temporarily make the game launch with a custom resolution but you won't be able to make any changes from within the launcher itself until you uncheck the read-only attribute or delete the file and make a new one.
This happens to me on Windows too, the launcher removes it when starting a game
Quick update: We just released a fix for this onto the Launcher's Beta channel; please take a look - this should fix your issue. And then if things look good we'll push this to release on Monday.
Beta 2.3.520 addresses the issue for me. Thanks
I tested out the Beta version of the launcher just now, it appears to have fixed the problem for me also. Thank you very much!
Yes, the beta fixes the issue for me as well
Launcher version: Windows 10.0.2.3.520
Thank you!
Thanks, b.2.3.520 fixed this for me also.
Also on Linux.
Pushed to release now.
