Partial Item Despawn After Death
Updated description by [Mod] GoldenHelmet
Expected Results:
When a player dies, its items drop at the place of death and can be found by returning to that position (before the 5-minute timer runs out).
Observed Results:
When a player dies in certain circumstances, some of its items seem to disappear.
Steps to reproduce:
Following are 3 parallel sets of reproduction steps for 3 circumstances that lead to the removal of some of a player's items from the place of death.
Case A: death while suffocating inside solid blocks
- Construct a 1 x 2 x 1 roofed chamber out of solid blocks. Set up a piston on one side that can push the wall in at head level. Connect the piston to a button that is accessible within the chamber.
- Equip armor and an offhand item, and put some items in your inventory.
- Enter the chamber.
- Push the button and wait to suffocate.
- Respawn and inspect the place of death. The inventory items will be in the air block where your feet were. The equipped items will be on top of the roof of the chamber.
Demostration of Case A: Suffocate head in block.mp4![]()
Case B: death while swimming
- Construct a water-filled room with a solid block roof of any thickness.
- Equip armor and an offhand item, and put some items in your inventory.
- Swim in the block just below the ceiling, and note whether you are facing upward into the ceiling or not.
- Die in whatever way you wish.
- Respawn and inspect the place of death. If you were facing upward into the ceiling in steps (3)-(4), all of your items will be on the roof. If you were not facing upward, the equipped items will be on top of the roof, and the inventory items will be in the water-filled room.
Demonstration of Case B, facing upward: Drown facing up into ceiling.mp4![]()
Demostration of Case B, not facing upward: Drown under ceiling.mp4
Drown 2.mp4![]()
Case C: death from falling
- Construct a platform 1 or 2 blocks thick, several blocks above the ground.
- Equip armor and an offhand item, and put some items in your inventory.
- Fly or teleport up very high above the platform.
- Fall to your death on the platform.
- Respawn and inspect the place of death. The equipped items will be on the platform you landed on. The inventory items may be on ground below the platform.
- If all items are on the platform, repeat these steps. Inventory items are more likely to fall below the platform when client-server latency is higher (such as when falling from greater elevation and therefore faster, or in a multiplayer game).

Explanation:
All 3 cases depend on equipped items and inventory items dropping in different places when a player dies. Inventory items drop at the player’s position, in the same block as its feet (or head when swimming). Equipped items drop at +2Y (the block above the player’s head when standing). I’ll call this “split drops.”
Case A is a consequence of split drops, and the normal behavior of items in solid blocks.
Case B is a consequence of split drops, the normal behavior of items in solid blocks, and MCPE-31896.
Case C is a consequence of split drops and the way the player death algorithm handles client-server latency. It appears that the server determines player death, but the client determines player position for item drops. Upon death from falling, items drop as if the player was positioned anywhere from 3 blocks below to 5 or more blocks above the place of impact. (May relate to MCPE-65094)
Original Description:
So I died by drowning. I respawned at the world spawn, and returned to my base in a short amount of time (less than 2 minutes). I then slept to pass the night, and within another minute I was back at the location where I died, however the only item floating on the surface was an iron pickaxe. All of my other items seemed to disappear. I certainly made it back to my items within 5 minutes, and there was still an item left. What happened here? Seed is -1403231618 and the coordinates where this happened are 404, 73, 852.
Edit 3/7/2020: Unfortunately I don't remember much else from what happened during this incident. I hadn't been playing for more than 40 minutes. I also likely was pushing up against a sand block when I died, as I was trying to get to the surface along the edge of the shore but died pretty far under the water. I don't think I had armor yet, just basic items you can collect quickly in the beginning of the game. I'm thinking shovel, sword, maybe some food, wood, a map, etc. Listed cause of death was drowning.
If you have had this problem, we'd be grateful for your details. Tell us what kind of damage caused your death, whether and what kind of items (armor, tools, weapons, other) were dropped and lost, and what the chat listed as your cause of death. Also, if you can remember, how recently were the disappearing items crafted?

Explanation:
All 3 cases above depend on what I shall call the “surprising fact” of this bug:
Surprising Fact: when a player dies, its inventory items drop or “spawn” at the player position (in the same block as its feet), but its equipped armor and offhand item drop or “spawn” 2 blocks above the player position (in the block above its head).
Case A is a simple consequence of the Surprising Fact, plus the normal behavior of items that come to be located in solid blocks.
Case B is a consequence of the Surprising Fact, the normal behavior of items that come to be located in solid blocks, and
MCPE-31896.Case C appears to be a consequence of the Surprising Fact and the way the player death algorithm handles client-server latency. It appears that the server determines player position for fall damage and declaring death, but the client determines player position for item drops. Upon death from falling, items drop as if the player was positioned anywhere from 2 blocks below to 5 or more blocks above the place of impact.
Suggestions for fix:
There is probably not a singular fix for all 3 cases, and some changes that might fix one case would worsen others. For example, if equipped armor and offhand items were made to drop at the player’s feet like inventory items, that by itself would mitigate A and B but will amplify C. I would, therefore, suggest one of two things:
- A threefold fix: make _all_ items drop at the player’s feet, adjust the player’s shape while swimming (so that its “foot” position is lower and/or top of its hitbox is higher--so it can’t get so close the to block above by looking into it), and change the way the death algorithm handles client-server updates with respect to item drop position.
- Expand the death algorithm to give different positions for item drops depending on the cause of death and player’s state before death (e.g. swimming or standing).

Edits after further research in italics.
The frame with Y=62 in Auldrick's comment above was a big clue–here is the explanation for this bug as it pertains to falling deaths.
A player falling at high speed does not move smoothly through each Y level. Instead, the Y-position skips. In the video Auldrick linked to, the Y values are decreasing by at least 2 at a time. In the video The fall.mp4This could be a limitation of my video playback software (standard Win10), which does not allow me to view frame-by-frame.that I have attached, Y decreases by up to 8 at a time after falling over 100 blocks.
When the player dies by falling, the Y-position resets to the block they should have landed on. Thus in picture #3 it goes back to 63.I now think the "reset" is not correcting skipped Y levels, but rather is a client-server reconciliation (see below).- When a player dies, the armor and offhand item spawns at the player's head
after the position is reset, but the inventory items spawn at theirlast Y level before deathfeet. Therefore, when you die from a long fall, you can see your armor fall down around you, but you do not see your items fall down. Your items "spawn"where you would have been in the ground/through the floorat your feet, or where the client thinks your feet were at the time the server declared you dead.If you are lucky they glitch up and appear at your feet.If the floor is thin they can fall through it. In solid ground they can probably be deleted.I have uploaded a second video, The stuff.mp4
, that shows where my items landed after my death in The fall.mp4
.
To reproduce this bug:
- Construct two vertically-aligned platforms several Y-levels apart.
- In creative mode, equip armor, put some items in your hotbar, and fly up very high above the platforms.
- Run a "/gamemode survival" command to fall to your death.
- Respawn, set the game mode back to creative, and go inspect the platforms. Your armor will be on the platform you landed on, and some of your items may be on the platform below.
Using these reproduction steps with another player's help I observed the following:
- Where a player appears to be visually does not always match where they take damage. This is especially evident in the multiplayer videos I have uploaded, in which the player sometimes dies by fall while appearing to be 5 or so blocks above the platform. The discrepancy tends to be greater with higher speeds and more processing demands (e.g. in multiplayer).
- Multiple falls from the same height can produce different results. Sometimes inventory Items spread (expected).mp4
and land on the top platform, sometimes inventory Items glitch straight down.mp4
, sometimes inventory Items glitch then spread.mp4
across the lower platform, and sometimes you get Items way above impact location.mp4
.
- The momentum of both equipped items and inventory items after death always includes a +Y component, which helps them to spread out.
These 3 observations together point to client-server disagreements about the player's position at death as the cause. Since the player's visual position does not necessarily match the beginning of the death event, it seems to me that death is determined by the server but the position for visual rendering of the player and items is determined by the client. If the client thinks the player's feet are (far enough?) below the top surface of the impact block then inventory items will spawn in or under that block. If they spawn in the block, then they hit adjacent blocks when they try to spread and then fall straight down. If they spawn below the block, then they spread out before falling.
I would guess bugs like this are difficult to reproduce because the client-server disagreement involved tends to be highly contingent.

Here are two suggested ways to fix this bug:
- A threefold fix: (1) make all items drop at the player’s feet, (2) adjust the player’s shape while swimming (so that its “foot” position is lower and/or top of its hitbox is higher--so it can’t get so close the to block above by looking into it), and (3) change the way the death algorithm handles client-server updates with respect to item drop position.
- Expand the death algorithm to give different positions for item drops depending on the cause of death and whether the player is swimming or standing at time of death.
Call for more informationIf you have had this problem, we'd be grateful for your details. Tell us what kind of damage caused your death, whether and what kind of items (armor, tools, weapons, other) were dropped and lost, and what the chat listed as your cause of death. Also, if you can remember, how recently were the disappearing items crafted?
Expected Results:
When a player dies, its items drop at the place of death and can be found by returning to that position (before the items despawn, of course).
Observed Results:
When a player dies in certain circumstances, some of its items seem to disappear.
Steps to reproduce:
Following are 3 parallel sets of reproduction steps for 3 circumstances that lead to the removal of some of a player's items
from the place of death.Case A: death while suffocating inside solid blocks
- Construct a 1 x 2 x 1 roofed chamber out of solid blocks. Set up a piston on one side that can push the wall in at head level. Connect the piston to a button that is accessible within the chamber.
- Equip armor and an offhand item, and put some items in your inventory.
- Enter the chamber.
- Push the button and wait to suffocate.
- Respawn and inspect the place of death. The items that were in your inventory will be in the air block where your feet were. The equipped items will be on top of the roof of the chamber.
Demostration of Case A: Suffocate head in block.mp4
Case B: death while swimming
- Construct a water-filled room with a solid block roof of any thickness.
- Equip armor and an offhand item, and put some items in your inventory.
- Swim in the block just below the ceiling, and note whether you are facing upward into the ceiling or not.
- Die in whatever way you wish.
- Respawn and inspect the place of death. If you were facing upward into the ceiling in steps (3)-(4), all of your items will be on the roof. If you were not facing upward, the equipped items will be on top of the roof, and the inventory items will be in the water-filled room.
Demostration of Case B, not facing upward: Drown under ceiling.mp4
Drown 2.mp4
Demonstration of Case B, facing upward: Drown facing up into ceiling.mp4
Case C: death from falling
- Construct a platform 1 or 2 blocks thick, several blocks above the ground.
- Equip armor and an offhand item, and put some items in your inventory.
- Fly or teleport up very high above the platform.
- Fall to your death on the platform.
- Respawn and inspect the place of death. The armor and offhand item that you had equipped will be on the platform you landed on. The items that were in your inventory _may_ be on ground below the platform.
- If all items are on the platform, repeat these steps. Inventory items are more likely to fall below the platform when client-server latency is higher (such as when falling from greater elevation and therefore faster, or in a multiplayer game).

Drown 2.mp4
Demonstration of Case C: Items glitch straight down.mp4
Items glitch then spread.mp4
Explanation:
All 3 cases depend on equipped items and inventory items dropping in different places when a player dies. Inventory items drop at the player’s position, in the same block as its feet (or head when swimming). Equipped items drop at +2Y (the block above the player’s head when standing). I’ll call this “split drops.”
Case A is a consequence of split drops, and the normal behavior of items in solid blocks.
Case B is a consequence of split drops, the normal behavior of items in solid blocks, and
MCPE-31896.Case C is a consequence of split drops and the way the player death algorithm handles client-server latency. It appears that the server determines player death, but the client determines player position for item drops. Upon death from falling, items drop as if the player was positioned anywhere from 3 blocks below to 5 or more blocks above the place of impact. (May relate to MCPE-65094)
Suggestions for fix:
Note that some changes that might fix one case would worsen others. For example, if equipped items were made to drop at the player’s feet like inventory items, that by itself would mitigate A and B but amplify C. Here are two ideas for fixing this bug:
- A threefold fix: (1) make all items drop at the player’s feet, (2) adjust the player’s shape while swimming so that it can’t get so close the to block above by looking up, and (3) change the death algorithm to update client position for item drops based on server death position.
- Expand the death algorithm to give different positions for item drops depending on the cause of death and whether the player is swimming or standing at time of death.
Updated description by GoldenHelmet:

I realize this was a long time ago, but would you happen to have any video of this happening? Has it ever happened again?
Barring further information, I’ll link this report as a duplicate of MCPE-48370.
So you fell down a ravine and died? Inventory items and equipped items drop in different ways when you die, which can lead to one, or both, getting lost in an unexpected place. Have you tried digging down directly below the spot where you died to check for items?
I am going to have this ticket resolved as a duplicate of MCPE-48370. Please see that report for more information, and add your vote and any further information you may have. A picture of the spot would be very helpful.
This can cause player's inventory items to drop a few blocks below the place of impact upon death from falling, giving the appearance that they have been deleted. See MCPE-48370 (Case C in the description).
The coordinates you gave are directly above lava. Any item that touches lava will be destroyed (except a nether star). If you haven't cleared out all of the lava, then when you die by falling your inventory items could be dropping below your platform in the lava, as described in MCPE-48370 (Case C in the description.)
If you die in some other way there, then your inventory items could just be spreading out widely and landing in lava or getting carried into lava by the water flows around. Equipped items tend tend to not spread as far.
Dig down from where you landed, they could be in a cave below. This is described in MCPE-48370.

@Seth O'Brien when you fall from a great height, your inventory can drop below the block you land on (Case C of MCPE-48370). So dig down below where you died and see if there is a cave or lava that your items may have fallen into.

Well there's a giant hole under the top of a tree near you in one of the pictures. I would guess a creeper was trying to attack you and blew up just after you died, destroying some of your items. It does not look like any of the scenarios from MCPE-48370 could apply.
How deep was the hole? If you were falling this might be due to MCPE-48370.

Are you sure you did not experience MCPE-48370 (case C, death from falling)?
Items can be destroyed if they touch lava or are hit by explosions. It is also possible for them to be displaced if you died by falling or with your head touching blocks (MCPE-48370). There is also a 5-minute despawn timer for items, but it only applies while the area they are in is within simulation distance. Could any of these apply to your experience?

Are you sure that you were able to return to the place where the items would been within 5 minutes of dying? Note that any time you waited to respawn would count toward this 5 minutes if the items were in the area. Also this does not seem specifically related to playing on a Realm?
This may be a duplicate of MCPE-48370.
Thank you for your report!
However, this issue is Incomplete.
Your report does not contain enough information. As such, we're unable to understand or reproduce the problem.
Items will naturally despawn after 5 minutes if it took you a while to get back to your stuff (as I imagine it would have in the end) that would be why. However this timer only runs while the area is loaded which is why you've heard of things being found much later.
Its also possible you were affected by MCPE-48370 but that only involves the loss of some items and usually occurs on death, not on return.
Please review the guidelines linked below before making further reports.

Thank you for your report!
Unfortunately, your report does not contain enough information and so we are unable to reproduce the problem. Also there are several factors that could cause the items to despawn when you died. If you were automatically disconnected from the realm server when your parental timer expired, the server may have continued the game for awhile before it detected the disconnection. When you die in the game, at least on a realm / server, the game does not pause the action in the area where you died until you respawn yourself, so if you did die after disconnecting the despawn timer may have started or even used up its 5 minutes. Lastly, there is an existing report of some or all items being lost when dying, this is tracked as MCPE-48370.
We are resolving this issue as incomplete. Please review the guidelines linked below before making further reports.

Did your friend knock you off a ledge and you died from falling? This can cause your items to fall through the floor/ground while your armor lands on the surface. We're tracking that issue at MCPE-48370.
If it's not too late, dig up the floor where you landed, or check any hoppers/hopper-minecarts under there or nearby.

I think what may have happened is that you died, like you said, on the side of the mountain, but on the ledges about 10 blocks up from where your bed is. That would be a likely place to die if you were trying to jump from the top of the waterfall to the plateau a couple blocks away. I tried it, and here is where my things ended up:
Note that the experience is down at the bottom near the bed where I respawned, and a stack of dirt did make it into the water and got washed down, but the equipped items and other inventory items are up on the ledge. The experience was on the ledge at first too, but when I came close it started to move toward me and fell down from the ledge before I backed away. Experience orbs do that, other items do not. I think it's very likely that your items were up on the ledge and very difficult to see unless you went back up the waterfall.
Part of the issue here is that inventory items and equipped items drop and spread differently when you die. Equiped items tend to spread less.
I am going to request this ticket be resolved as a duplicate of MCPE-48370. Although there does not seem to be any glitching through blocks here as there is for the cases on that ticket, the fact that inventory items drop differently from equipped items is a common factor in items being lost.

Ok, I am going to resolve this ticket as a duplicate of MCPE-48370. You should follow that ticket for updates.
Relates to MCPE-48370.
@thecrafter06: thanks, but that issue is not related. MCPE-48370 is attributable to items dropping or being displaced to unexpected places (above the ceiling, below the floor) when players die. This issue is attributable to a player's login credentials/identity not being recognized when they rejoin a world they have previously played in, so they are treated as a new player.

Based on your description it seems unlikely this is related to previously having the curse of vanishing book. However, if you can reproduce this with a death that does not match the description in MCPE-48370 then feel free to create a new report. Be sure to provide a list of steps that someone else can follow.

However, this issue is Invalid.
Please put only one bug report in each ticket. It is very difficult to keep track of bugs when they are not in their own tickets.
However, please review the Bug Tracker Guidelines before creating new reports. Be sure to search for an existing issue as it is likely to have already been reported. The issue with items despawning on death is tracked as MCPE-48370.
If you are still experiencing the issue with spawning in at a somewhat random location that can be reported as a new issue. Be sure to include information about what is around the area (screenshots or video is best) so it can be investigated.

I suspect this is a bug in general, not just Realms, given the seemingly increased rate of similar reports for the MCPE project. Perhaps MCPE-48370 was not fully fixed, or a new bug arose in its place. However it will be difficult to confirm as it is not consistent behaviour.
Earlier reports of items disappearing after death were linked to MCPE-48370, which was supposed to be fixed by changes to fall damage and item drop handling in 1.16.100.
That fix has apparently caused ongoing issues with client-server disagreement about the player’s position and falling state reported at MCPE-105490, MCPE-109937, MCPE-120140, MCPE-120277, and MCPE-122780. This report seems to describe client-server disagreement about the position of dropped items.

In this video (link copied from
MCPE-58548) you can see this bug in operation. I have attached a series of single frames that illustrate how it happens and raise questions about the sequence of events.#1
Just before the fatal impact, the player has full health, 11 levels, and all their hotbar items. There are two oddities I'm not sure I have an explanation for. First, the paper doll is not visible, although it is turned on throughout the video. Possibly, I caught it between renders with and without the red overlay that shows damage being absorbed. Second, the Y coordinate reads 62, which is where the water block is, rather than 63 where the floor is. The crosshairs are on the water, though off-center, so perhaps the player's collision box has not yet intersected a solid block. (Note that the coordinate display is always rounded down to the nearest integer, so the player's actual Y coordinate could potentially be just barely below 63.)
#2
Upon impact, the player has lost all their health (but not their XP yet). All the items in their hotbar have been removed, apparently including their armor if the paper doll is accurate. No impact particles have been generated yet. The player's Y coordinate is now 63, the floor level.
#3
Start of death sequence. The iron leggings have been dropped. No other items are in frame, but as we'll see in a moment the other 3 armor pieces will or have dropped, but none of the other items. The HUD has been removed. The first impact particles are being generated, but surprisingly they seem to be coming out of the water.
#4
Just before return to the death site, 12 seconds after death. Armor pieces are on the floor, other items are nowhere to be found.
#5
After landing in water, armor pieces are being sucked into inventory. The duplication of armor items in hotbar and in the water is probably normal, because the sucking animation runs over time while the hotbar update is instantaneous. Most people probably never notice it.
Since the fall to death happens in a corner and the items that remain are up to 2 blocks away by taxicab distance, could some have spawned in the walls to the south and east? If those walls are 1-thick they could have glitched to the other side; if they are >1 thick I think they would be deleted. The items shouln't spawn in solid blocks, but maybe they did.
I don't think "spawning" is an accurate term for what you're describing, but even if we think of it that way, the items don't spawn away from the player. They spawn at the player's head with momentum in a random direction, or at least the animation makes it look that way. So it would be exactly like the player dropping the items (with Q) while facing in random directions. Item entities like those are excluded from solid blocks using the same behavior that an item in a hole uses when you fill the hole with a solid block. There are times when I think I've seen such an item disappear, but tbh I don't dig around looking for them, so they might have gone into a block below.
I guess it might be slightly possible that they could glitch through a corner if there's air on the opposite corner, if the direction of momentum was just right, but it's not believable that every one of 4 pieces of armor went into the room while every one of 7 other items went precisely into a corner.
I also had this problem recently, inventory was completely deleted (including the armour) twice in the latest release
still waiting for a fix
If the original poster is still watching this report, I wonder if you could confirm whether your feet were stuck in sand when you died? I loaded your seed and went to the position you reported, and noticed that just next to it is some sand that could have fallen on you. It made me wonder if the reason you drowned was that you got stuck in blocks. If your feet were in a block when you died, then possibly your items could have "spawned" inside solid blocks and been unable to glitch out. Do you think it's possible that the pickaxe floated up because it spawned above you like armor because you were using it at the time you died?
Update: I tested my the feet-in-block theory and this happened: Drown 1.mp4
Since you found a pickaxe, not armor or offhand items, my next guess (based on testing at that spot) is that your other items spread far into the cave and were hiding up against the ceiling behind a corner. Death in water can spread items farther than death on land because of how they slowly float.
It may be worth adding here that if you die while swimming up against a ceiling, your armor and offhand item will spawn 2 blocks above your head like this: Drown 2.mp4
(due to
MCPE-31896) and glitch upward through any number of solid blocks (as described in this comment ).GoldenHelmet, I'm pretty sure I was near sand or gravel at the bottom, but out of the cave. I don't believe I had any armor on, and the pick axe was likely the item I was holding in my hand. That's all I can remember, sorry.
Suggestions for fix:
Note that some changes that might fix one case would worsen others. For example, if equipped items were made to drop at the player’s feet like inventory items, that by itself would mitigate A and B but amplify C. Here are two ideas for fixing this bug:
somtimes if you die in the nether you will get some items and xp back with you to overworld(insta reapawn on, off maybee)
oh I made a report but I didn't mention that I suffocated in a slime block
I died to an iron golem at about coordinates -15 83 -966, respawned at -22 93 -965 and would not have gone further in any direction away than -3 94 -973 when I returned to the point about 15 seconds later only the armour I was wearing and the shield in my offhand were on the ground, all items in my hot bar and inventory (including diamond armour and netherite) were gone. After copying the world and summoning entities to myself to check if the items were still in the world I found that they had been destroyed completely. I died pushed towards a dirt block with 2 dirt blocks above a pit below me.
@William Gardner I’m having a hard time picturing the death spot you describe. Could you attach a pictire? Was there lava in the pit? Were there other mobs nearby that could have picked up your items?
This Happened to me when I flew into a pole with riptide + elytra in the rain. Both the trident and elytra despawned. Everything else was fine
Per MCPE-92901 if you are killed by a channeling trident the lightning will destroy all of your items.
The 1.16.100.58 changelog states:
Could we get some feedback on how that affects this bug (Case C in the description)?
This is still here unfortunately.
This happened to me. I was wearing no armor, but I had all stone tools, I was near a lake and a skeleton killed me. Chat said "shot by Arrow". My stone sword disappeared.
@Bernardo Gomes Negri: in your case, the skeleton or some other monster probably picked up the sword. That would be working as intended.
This issue appears to have been fixed by the removal of the legacy fall damage packet from client mentioned in the 1.16.100 changelog. Items and equipment now both drop from above the player's head.
There is a chance that items and equipment can still be separated if when the player dies by suffocation inside a block. When I tested suffocating inside a solid 3 x 3 x 3 cube, my equipment ended up on top of the cube and my items a few blocks out to the side. I will write this up in a new ticket and update here with the link.
This issue definitely hasn't been resolved. This just happened to me twice within 5 minutes.
I'm in the Nether, building a ladder down from my portal/base to find Ancient Debris. I was starting to build a cage around the ladder for an open section it goes through and I "fell from a high place." Since it's a straight shot down, it only took about 30 seconds to get back to my gear. Everything was there except for my bow.
A fully enchanted bow with Infinity, Unbreaking III, Power IV, Punch II, Curse of Vanishing and Flame I, I might add.
My inventory wasn't full, but even still, I re-equipped my armor and shield on the spot and then started to re-organize my inventory. Noticing that my bow was gone, I looked everywhere around where I died and even went back up to where I fell from and looked all around there. The bow was just gone.
Then I looked up this bug on here and decided to climb up a ways to a little nook by my ladder to see if it was hiding in there. That's when I fell again, and same problem. Only this time I had everything but my Potion of Fire Resistance.
It seems like the game is just targeting my most valuable items. I don't have any blaze rods yet so I can't brew, so those potions are extremely hard to come by.
And that was such an awesome bow T.T
EDIT: I died in a tiny little cave with no entrances except my ladder and no mobs. There weren't any mobs around when I went back for my stuff, either. And no blast or lava damage from any source.
If your bow had curse of vanishing, that is intended. Curse of vanishing means it disappears upon death.
@Kae Raine Elnliwilts
I believe your issue with the bow is a separate bug where bows act up in the Nether.
I feel silly.
Thank you for clearing that up
(Still dunno why I lost my Potion of Fire Resistance though)
This issue is still relevant.
Just died while flying with elytra, got all my items back, except for an equipped elytra. Happened at the overworld and elytra was not enchanted with curse of binding, and was at almost full durability. Checked all caves underneath hoping that it would have somehow glitched through the ground but still nothing. All this within 5 minute despawn time.
Could you please investigate this more? Can't really provide reproducable world save.
EDIT: Version: 1.17.1
EDIT v2: Cause of death was hitting head too hard in the ground
FryNights: this report will not be reopened. For the current version we are tracking disappearing items at MCPE-121025.
