On attempting to log in to Realms (first attempt ever), I get the Microsoft account screen. I enter my (existing, active) Microsoft account, and (next screen) password.
I now get a screen which has my photo top right, and in almost unreadable white font on light grey background (what!???!) has my email address. This page HAS NO QUESTION on it. It just has a date entry form. For all reasonable values of date entered, the form simply returns without any action or any error message or any other feedback. It is an infinite loop or infinite guessing game with no clue whatever as to what date value I'm supposed to be providing, let alone why.
This is a total failure from a UX point of view as well as a practical point of view and is totally blocking me and my family from using Realms. Frankly, Microsoft is terrible at authentication systems. Forcing all Realms traffic through the mess that is Microsoft authentication is just going to act like a massive traffic limiter. I like Minecraft more than

I have Xbox Live accounts for my children as it's pretty much mandatory now for playing Minecraft on Kindle (or anything except on Java edition I think). The children use child accounts on their Fire
10HDs.Their in app purchases (all approved and paid for by me from my parent account which is an Amazon account). Their Xbox Live accounts are part of a Microsoft Family account where I'm also the parent account (so complicated!).
Today I am getting this issue: I buy Minecoins and/or add-ons for the child accounts on Minecraft Marketplace, my Amazon coins are debited, but no Minecoins are credited and all Marketplace purchases fail to complete. There is no advertised way to buy Minecoins with Amazon coins but when I attempt to buy Minecoins on their Kindles under their child accounts I am prompted to sign in as the parent account and pay for them in Amazon Coins. It is the only option, to pay in Amazon coins.
The problem is that the Amazon coins are deducted but the Minecoins are not credited. They're not credited to the child account or to my parent account. This is the same whether I buy Minecoins directly (+ button next to the Minecoin counter) or buy them indirectly by buying an add on. The add on doesn't appear on my parent Minecraft account either, just like the Minecoins don't appear there either.
From the Amazon App store phone app I can confirm the Amazon coins were definitely deducted but it doesn't show me the transaction history. Probably I need the desktop website to see transactions.)
If I open any new Minecoin transaction in Minecraft Marketplace it tells me there's an in progress purchase that hasn't completed and prompts me to compete it now. Or (perhaps crucially) it prompts the child to complete it - it doesn't ask for the parent account credentials. This repeatedly fails, saying "unable to connect to the app store". Unclear if these means the Minecraft Marketplace, the Amazon App Store, or maybe even Xbox Live.
Might be a "Block Friday" or Black Friday issue?
In attempting to reproduce this, it's critical to use an Amazon Fire for Kids child & parent account. It may also be critical to use a Microsoft Family child and parent account for the XBox Live integration, in case that's the problem. I have seen similar cases closed as Cannot Reproduce which may not have reproduced the critical conditions.
Needless to say this is very annoying because effectively Mojang has taken $25 off me today and I have nothing to show for it. More to the point my children are very upset because they were promised these add ons to play with. It's actually the third time we've tried to buy them this addon, the third time we've lost our money. Really not acceptable in e-commerce, particularly when children are the main market.

SpikeZarkSpike - We have had some temporary service outages that have been resolved, but for the main part here I want you to be able to get your account back in order as soon as possible, and the best way for that to happen is for you to contact Customer Support directly with your account details so any issues can be rectified as quickly as possible. Additionally, once you have sent in your details to the support agents any underlying issues can be investigated and resolved internally. Having a general ticket here for the purpose of tracking a general "purchase issue" is likely to be too broad a subject, and we will never quite be able to check that everyone has their account back in order. Please be assured we are still working behind the scenes to make sure the Marketplace and account purchasing issues are resolved.
This is highly reproducible in 1.12.2
In over ten attempts in 3 different worlds, the mineshaft is never at the location indicated by locate. Drilling to bedrock finds no trace of the mineshaft, nor does destroying 15x15x15 blocks down to bedrock (eg no wooden planks wreckage).
In these same worlds using chunkbase mineshaft-finder tool correctly located mineshafts in 5/5 attempts, immediately just by drilling a 1x1 vertical shaft at the coordinates given by mineshaft-finder.
There is an odd anomaly which may be a clue. The (false) coordinates returned by /locate have a repeating pattern if you run /locate in different parts of the world. For example, /locate might return -1016, Y, 250 one time, then 250, Y, -1016 the next time then -250, Y, 1016, then 1016, Y, 878, then -878, Y, 433.
To me that looks like some kind of memory or variable handling glitch, an off by one array index, an extra pop/push, something like that?
You don't need a Minecraft crash report to diagnose and fix a JIRA template configuration error.
Available versions 2.x and 2.9.x don't sound like the Java versions of the launcher which have a different numbering sequence
To reproduce, try entering a valid Java launcher version other than 1.6.76
Thanks for the info. I downloaded the game and launcher from Mojang only about 4 weeks ago so I'm surprised it's already a major version out of date. I'll try and see where I can download 2.X series launchers for Java edition on Linux. Thanks again.
Looks like the new (non Java) launcher for Linux is very much in beta still?
I suppose it's possible this was introduced by the fix to
https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-125213
The references I'm following are
the detailed guide at
https://github.com/skylinerw/guides/blob/master/java/recipes.md
which says it is updated to 18w08a
and the recipe generator at
https://crafting.thedestruc7i0n.ca/
my testing method is to install the snapshot, then create a new world, then move the datapack into the new world. I verify the datapack is present and enabled. I prove that my shapeless recipes from the datapack work OK. Then I try the example shaped recipes and generated recipes from above sources. I do /reload after changing any datapack elements (often I quit to title and reload the world just to be sure, but not always). For the "known good" recipes I change the output (result) to a simple well-known block type so that I can verify I'm not just using the built in recipe from the minecraft: namespace if I get a success.
NB shaped crafting for built in recipes works, it's only the JSON datapack shaped recipes that are failing.
OK sorry my bad. There was a format error in the example I was using from skylinerw's guide.
Nothing to see here, closing!
Ah apparently I can't close my own bug. No problem.
Request to close please.
Default seed.
Verified also with 18w09a just now
There are igloos and jungle temples all near the spawn point, hard to miss.
Also huge swarms of mobs!
If you go into the air from the spawn point of the default seed you should see jungle temples, witch huts, and some igloos nearby. And moss stone structures. As well as lots of villages. The villages at least are Desert villages.
Ah ok sorry I didn't realise they were randomised. I will provide the output of /seed later but it will be a while as I am not at my PC now. However I've seen this in two successive new worlds with a blank seed.

Hmm ok copying a 20+ digit seed string by hand is not ideal, but apparently I need a third party tool to unpack the seed from level.dat in order to copy and paste it? Any other suggested approach? I will upload level.dat anyway, in case there's any manual typing error in the seed above. I'm also going to double check the structure coordinates I provided above, although you really can't miss these structures, they're everywhere and abnormally densely packed.
Inside the game console? And yes, didn't appear to work, not that I expected it to work. Does it?
No, I tried again, no copy and paste is possible. It is not possible to even select the seed. Not in the F3 display, not in the output of /seed. The console immediately returns to the gameplay and the mouse control is intercepted by controlling the player facing, as usual. Even on returning to the console, the previous console output is not selectable.
Anyway I verified the seed 'by eye' several times and it is correct.
Check out 2632 64 307 for a collection of weird structures next to a normal Desert Temple
I mean there are weird structures everywhere! They are not hard to find... they are hard to miss!
Here is the seed, copied and pasted via the MineAtlas.com third party tool. It matches what I typed by hand, as far as I can tell.

OK I will replicate this world with the same seed and confirm I get the same results. I am not sure why that is worth doing, since I created this world new, in 18w09a, immediately got the same weird results I was seeing in 18w08b, and reported the (randomly generated) seed, as per above.
But OK I will try that.
Is no one seeing this problem with Superflat Preset Desert? To me it is not seed dependent, it happens consistenly and it's not subtle, it's staggeringly evident as soon as you go into the world.
I have just created 4 new worlds in 18w09a with
Creative, Superflat, Customise, Desert Preset
All 4 exhibit these inappropriate structure types, immediately, either visible from the spawn point or within less than one minute. I can see jungle temples, igloos, and in general just way too many structures, too much density. Desert structures are also present. All 4 seeds are random and totally different.
Also, there are mobs out that should not spawn in daylight, in large numbers. Zombies and skeletons in flat open desert, no shade at all. When I move into range of them they seem to 'remember' it's daylight and they start burning.
On the structure issue I wonder if the terrain generator realises this is a preset desert, but the structure generator is failing to notice the terrain is desert-only? Is the desert preset applied as a post-generation mask over the 'real' biome type, and the structure generator is accessing the 'real' biome type? I'm just guessing.
Some of the structures being created, I didn't recognise. Having checked the wiki, these are Underwater Ruins (with magma blocks). So yes, definitely inappropriate to generate those in a Desert biome.
Agreed this is a duplicate of
MC-124918Sorry that my search before posting did not find the duplicate. I searched "biome" and "structures" so I'm not sure why I didn't find
MC-124918in my search.Same problem with the Desert Preset. Confirmed in 18w08b and 18w09a. I see igloos, jungle temples, witch huts, and the new ocean ruins structures.
I also see way too many structures, the structure density is extremely high. Also many small lava lakes, they are everywhere.
I also see very large groups of spawned mobs that should not spawn (zombies and skeletons at start of game day), that don't seem to notice the blazing sun until I move near them, at which point they start burning. In case that's related.
I see deep pits full of spiders. Another new feature? Pretty scary! I would not want to fall into one.
Here's my conjecture from my duplicate ticket (
MC-126629):On the structure issue I wonder if the terrain generator realises this is a preset desert, but the structure generator is failing to notice the terrain is desert-only? Is the desert preset applied as a post-generation mask over the 'real' biome type, and the structure generator is accessing the 'real' biome type? I'm just guessing.
Checking the standard Superflat world with no customisation, it has no structures at all apart from Villages. But for some reason it is swarming with slimes in every direction for as far as the eye can see. Slimes and passive mobs. 18w09a.
The Village types are varied even though the terrain is identical (nothing but grass). So possibly the same issue, just less dramatic because the only structures are Villages?
The login form is a white form headlined Microsoft, taking up maybe 5/6th of the screen vertically (like a pop-up or pop-over) but with a Minecraft branded page still visible underneath it.
In addition to the Next (= submit) button on the form having no discernable effect, the Cancel button next to it has no discernable effect either.
If I use the Android back button to bail from this loop, Android reports that "unfortunately Minecraft has stopped".
Well I lied because in this "guess the question, then guess the answer" barndance from the geniuses at Microsoft, there is a microscopic piece of user feedback. If I don't modify any of the defaults and try to submit the date entry form, I get "the information is required", like someone copy and pasted from the "My First JavaScript Validation" tutorial. But still neither the Next or Cancel button actually does anything.
Preliminary diagnosis: Microsoft paying people $9 an hour to develop web forms. Can I get a discount for beta testing their handiwork please?
Even when I am actually already logged in to my Microsoft account - the dialog detects this and lets me select my currently logged in account without any credentials challenge - I still get stuck in this same inescapable, uninformative loop. No change in behaviour.
I think maybe, when it grows up, what this form wants to say (rather than nothing at all) is something like "Hi, I need to verify your age to continue, please enter your date of birth". Something like that. Rather than - Nothing.
I guess it's possible it's asking me questions in more white text on white background that isn't masked by an almost-white grey layer and so is totally invisible rather than just nearly invisible.
OK what is going on is that it's trying to start the process to create an Xbox Live profile against my existing Microsoft Account, but the form is not rendering correctly or not being passed correctly (maybe a Web Services issue, XSLT, something like that?). See image for what the experience looks like when I bypass Minecraft and Realms and go directly to my Microsoft Account to set up the Xbox Live account. It's the same experience, but this time with a question and an explanation why the question is being asked. So this is an integration problem between Realms and the Microsoft Account service.
Ah sorry I was unable to add the screenshot but hopefully you get the general idea.
I suppose this problem would also occur in a home WiFi or other shared WiFi with multiple clients, so that different devices get reassigned different IP addresses? Or is it only the public IP address that matters? In which case it would only happen when the broadband provider assigns a different public IP address to the customer router.
Because I get the problem when reconnecting to my own WiFi network, not just when connecting to a different WiFi network.
That means the bug is hard to replicate for me.
Sorry for all the small comments.
Well I thought it might have been an oversight on the part of the development team since they are quite consistent about using Biome-appropriate materials for most construction. But if you are sure it's working as designed?
So please reclassify this as Working As Designed if that's the case. Because if it's not Working As Designed, then this is a valid bug.
The workaround for this problem is to go directly to Microsoft Account and link the Microsoft Account to an XBox Live account, independently of Minecraft, and not attempt to log in to Realms via Minecraft until the association of the Microsoft Account to the new XBox Live account has already been completed outside of Minecraft.
The impact of this will be that in 99% of cases, end users who want to use Minecraft Realms, but who don't already have an XBox Live account associated to their Microsoft Account, will not be able to play Minecraft Realms and will give up. (99% will not persistently attempt to debug it like me).
So if you have less Realm activity and signups than you were expecting, this could be a big part of the reason.
The fix is probably as simple as getting a correct set of contrasting colours in the font, background and overlay.
Yes agreed. Sorry I missed that issue. "Information" vs "Help" I guess. Also MCPE-44414 includes two issues and leads on a different one.

Actually I am getting Unknown Host Exception, authserver.mojang.com, so that's an operational issue, no evidence either way whether this issue is resolved
What was the partial fix? I'm seeing the problem in 1.14.2 - no help for Cartography Table and the context help button opens the Loom help.
Sorry 1.11.4
Thanks for the explanation and the reference to the resolved issue.
Saying "should" doesn't imply a feature request however. It hinges on whether this is working as designed. So can you mark this as Working As Designed then please?
Or alternatively, mark as a duplicate of
MC-140105which is itself marked as Working As Designed. It's a shame that logical consistency or thematic consistency are considered "feature requests". But hey.
I believe the java CMS warning on startup is a red herring. It issues this warning even when it runs normally. The warning is a warning, not an error. It says CMS is deprecated and may be removed in future. For now, this flag still works.
Same issue (at times)

That's a circular argument. If what I described was not what was designed, then it would be a bug. If it's working as designed, that's fine, but mark this as Working As Designed. Like the more or less identical
MC-140105which is marked Working As Designed. Or as a duplicate ofMC-140105. Either makes sense. Invalid does not make sense because this issue is not a feature request. If I wanted to make a feature request I would make a feature request.Play Offline fails with message:

There are no errors in the launcher log (in my case). But then there wouldn't be, because the page being displayed is a valid 200 successful web page. Just one that happens to detect JavaScript is disabled. But that is not an error as far as the browser is concerned.
Er, it's not a crash.
There's a one line error message, only, which I already pasted into the issue.
There is no crash report at that path, to paste. Unsurprisingly.

Apparently Linux users should upgrade to the latest Launcher version (eg 2.1.3676) which is available from the Mojang site).

This can be moved to Legacy or closed.
Move this to Legacy or close as it relates to the 1.6 series Launcher?
I can replicate this problem - all details in the description match - on the Amazon Kindle Fire platform, both on LAN games and in Realms.
I get this error on Bedrock with both child and adult accounts, when I am on a LAN but the LAN deliberately does not have internet connectivity. That suggests maybe the root cause for other people facing this issue may be intermittent internet connectivity?
In any case it should be possible to play a LAN game without having internet connectivity to the Microsoft authentication servers.
Ah sorry the message does not mention XBox Live. Otherwise identical. I'm connecting (failing) between Bedrock edition Android platforms (Kindle Fire).
We can see a correct count of Friends online and we can see games advertised by the adult (but not the children), but attempt to connect to the advertised game times out always.
Also we see this message citing Realms on the Realms screen and in relation to LAN games and Multiplayer games in the Settings screen. The statements are identical apart from "on Realms".
Prior to this when starting the game, obviously it attempts authentication to the Microsoft auth servers. That times out and it does proceed from that. We then get to the normal menus to open saved games, connect to games etc. That's where these problems are then encountered.
I would speculate this affects all Bedrock edition (MCPE) platforms, whenever there is an internet connectivity problem?
Moderator, could you please change the subject and affected scope, since it's clear from the comments that multiple platforms are affected other than Xbox, and also the error message itself may have changed since this bug was first filed? Thank.
I have had this problem in the past. I did get Xbox Live accounts for my children as it's pretty much mandatory now for playing Minecraft on Kindle (or anything except on Java edition I think). The children use child accounts on their Fire 10 HDs.
Their in app purchases (all approved and paid for by me from my parent account which is an Amazon account). Their Xbox Live accounts are part of a Microsoft Family account where I'm also the parent account (so complicated!).
Today I am getting an issue which may be related. I buy Minecoins on Minecraft Marketplace. There is no advertised way to buy them with Amazon coins but when I attempt to buy Minecoins on their Kindles under their child accounts I am prompted to sign in as the parent account and pay in Amazon Coins.
The problem is that the Amazon coins are deducted but the Minecoins are not credited. They're not credited to the child account or to my parent account. This is the same whether I buy Minecoins directly (+ button next to the Minecoin counter) or buy them indirectly by buying an add on. The add on doesn't appear on my parent Minecraft account either, just like the Minecoins don't.
From the Amazon App store phone app I can confirm the Amazon coins were deducted but it doesn't show me the transaction history.
This may be a different issue in which case I apologize. Has anyone seen this issue?
Might be a "Block Friday" or Black Friday issue?
I can reproduce this issue on the current version of Minecraft.
In your attempt to reproduce did you use an Amazon Family child account and parent account? This is critical to reproduce. A Microsoft Family child and parent account may also be critical to reproduce.
There are a lot of reports on this JIRA that have been closed as duplicates of this issue, which in turn has been closed as Can't Reproduce.
I can confirm I have Amazon email confirmation confirming the purchases and the amount of Amazon Coins deducted.
The purchases are itemised as
Minecraft Store Item 1 (=160 Minecoins) x 2
Minecraft Store Item 20 (=3200 Minecoins + bonus bundle)
Item 1 is not available to buy directly but was bought as part of buying a low price add-on that costs 160 Minecoins.
I can't confirm that Free add-ons download and install fine under the child account. So it's something to do with the integration between Minecoins and Amazon App Store / Amazon Coins.
Further information -
This happens even as the parent, i.e. a full Kindle administrator account who is also the Amazon account holder. So while it might be related to Fire for Kids Profiles, if it is, it applies to adult profiles equally as to child profiles, with identical behaviour.
The specifics in all cases are that the dialogue box "purchase in progress ... this shouldn't take long" (or similar wording) appears to stutter - disappears, comes back, then disappears again, seeming to crash with no final status (success, failure, or whatever) being reported.
The message on next attempting a Minecraft Marketplace purchase is:
[Text Box Label] Incomplete Minecoin Purchase
[Text Box Text] It looks like we didn't finish things last time. Let's complete your purchase now.
[Button Label] OK
Result:
[Text Box Label] Something Went Wrong
[Text Box Text] We were unable to connect to the app store. Try signing in to the app store or checking your Internet connection.
[Button Label] Close
Of course I was signed into the app store immediately prior to this action since is shows my Minecoins balance, shows my app store Inventory of Owned add ons, etc.
The only workaround I have found is:
Steve are you purchasing with, or for, a child account? Or for an adult account? Presumably you have to use an Xbox Live gamertag and a Microsoft Account with your iPhone 4S? Can you say what IOS version you have on your iPhone? Thanks.
Thanks Steve. Sounds very similar.
Have you tried purchasing the add on with your own adult/parent account? I tried that, as a test, and it also failed, with the same symptoms.
Jay have you read the report? The money is actually being deducted. It is a delivery problem not a billing problem. On what basis do you say it "may" be an account problem? What's the bar for me to repeatedly be charged money, and not get any DLC for my money, before you will look at this as a technical problem of content delivery?
Still an issue on Java Edition 1.15.2 on Mac clients.
As this is easily fixed in the post.info why hasn't Mojang fixed it in the installer? It's beyond the technical ability of many users but trivial for the developer to fix.
In fact the scope of this is any Mac acting as a client. Even two Macs can't play with each other without the workaround to prefer IPv4 being set on all clients.
Are you seeing it in that snapshot? Odd since it's been marked resolved for years.
To verify, create a superflat desert and fly around looking for igloos.
No it's not caused by a 'weak' connection. It's independent of connection quality. And if indicates a specific negative acknowledgement about configuration problems at the server side. It arises because I'd some combination of incompatible configurations, probably across multiple systems (eg XBox Live + Mojang). It ought to work, but doesn't, due to bugs in the interoperability of different systems involved in the long chain between the end user and the game registration servers.
In terms of OS and models of Mac affected, it's going to affect all MacOSes other than truly ancient ones, and also certain Linux distros, because the root cause is the OS preferring IPv6 by default.
This is so easy to fix, the Minecraft launcher just needs to specify the Java option to force IPv4. Since LAN games only ever work over IPv4 (now and for the foreseeable future) I don't see any downside to just implementing this immediately. Certainly for the Mac launcher and probably across-the-board for all platforms would be totally fine.
Still being affected by this. PS4. 14 March 2021. All my kids custom content and purchased content is gone. Come on Microsoft. Stop stealing from kids.
I had this issue today (24 Sep 2022). I don't have any external storage. It was possibly associated to updates requiring us to log in with our Microsoft accounts. However just logging in with our Microsoft accounts did not fix the problem.
What did fix the problem was uninstalling Minecraft from the PS4 and reinstalling it, then logging in with Microsoft accounts. This fixed (or worked around) the issue.
