Book crafting recipe doesn't exist in the newest snapshot
Book crafting recipe stopped working, you can't unlock it getting all the materials, I tried that with the gamerule doLimitedCrafting and it still doesn't work.

I'm not sure how to re-open a ticket? It shows resolved, but its still happening to me (MC-114950)
I saw that the original bug (MC-114950) was closed, but this issue is still happening to me. Everything that is described in that ticket is whats going on currently.
The crafting recipe don't show up in the crafting menu, and when placing the leather down with 3 paper, it doesn't show a book in the "result" block.

I'm in the Aquatic edition of windows 10, which i thought was 1.13... But i don't see that as an option under "Affects Version/s"
My roommate hopped on the realm to see if he is having the same issue, and he is.
We were just able to craft books yesterday (8/31/18), so we are not sure what happened.
I'm getting the same issue.
Probably because assets\minecraft\recipes\book.json is missing.
Missing in 17w13b still...

As an additional /recipe give usernamehere minecraft:book results in commands.recipe.unknownrecipe and i can confirm that in 17w13b the book.json file is missing from /minecraft/assets/recipes/

Without dlving into the games code this sounds like a variable recognition issue. Similar to the reason that Windows systems jumped from 8 to 10 skipping 9. I think it is like core registry operations doing calls for version '9' parts may call up old Windows 98 things.
In this instance all of the new 'Recipe Book' calls might be conflicting with the craftable plain minecraft:book item so the process is overwritten or invalid in the snap shot.
The only recipe fill in for the /recipe command that seems even remotely close is 'bookcloning', but i think that is relating to the recipe strings.
Confirmed in singleplayer/multiplayer
With or without doLimitedCrafting.

I think that this isn't a bug, Mojang is working in something with this.
No it's a bug. The recipe was forgotten to be added to the recipe files.
(If they are changing something, they don't remove it for the time being).
