The bug
If you select an item with your mouse to place it on any slot, the tooltips for items won't display when you hover over them. The tooltips for the items in the stonecutter UI and the crafting UI will display correctly. This can be quite annoying, especially with enchanted books. It prevents you from seeing the enchantments.
How to reproduce:
- Have at least to items in your inventory
- Click on an item
- Hover over the other item
The tooltip of the item doesn’t show up.

When you have an item selected on your mouse, so that you place the item on any slot, the tooltips of items don’t show up when hovering over them. Moving items by pressing number keys or F is disabled when you have an item on the cursor. However, shifting items by clicking works as expected, even if the player.cursor slot is occupied. This issue is related to MC-200693, MC-84610, and MCPE-96260.

When hovering over netherite ingots, emeralds, diamonds, gold ingots, or iron ingots in the beacon user interface, the item tooltip does not appear. This discrepancy contrasts with several other UIs where tooltips are displayed. For instance, in the trading UI, tooltips are shown despite these items not occupying an inventory slot, similar to the beacon payment items. This issue is related MC-149052, MC-235757, and MC-200693.
steps to reproduce
- Place a beacon
- Right click the beacon
- Hover of there payment items
Observed: Tooltips do not appear.
Expected: Tooltips should be displayed.
Can confirm, however I feel like this may not be a bug.
