All damage types cause knockback
When the player or any entitiy takes damage, it can cause knockback when it normally did not before.
A perfect example is to set yourself or a monster (That does not have knockback resistance) on fire, and watch them get thrown around like they're being punched.
Being on fire and taking falling damage are the triggers I noticed, which originally did not cause knockback

Probably related to MC-95539. My guess is that the chicken suffers knockback up into the lava, where both it and its drops are consumed.

@Kumasasa
I'm perfectly aware of that, as I've read it whole thing before doing anything else. The fact is, this is not an issue with the previous snapshot (16w02a), it's been a MAJOR issue in ALL snapshots since 15w47a.
Look at the fixes:
MC-779 - MINOR, cosmetics
MC-68383 - MINOR, cosmetics
MC-71006 - MINOR, cosmetics
MC-80826 - NOT URGENT, doesn't affect playability
MC-95539 - NOT URGENT, annoying but not a showstopper
MC-95541 - NOT URGENT, doesn't affect playability
MC-95612 - MAJOR but doesn't affect playability
On the other hand:
MC-89928 - VERY MAJOR, unaddressed for over 3 months. Makes the End inaccessible without cheats. Ironically, it's the new anti-cheat system that causes it.
MC-94438 (This one) - VERY MAJOR, unaddressed for almost 2 months. Seriously affects playability. TBH it's literally unplayable.
I'm not pissed off, I'm just being critical. I know I can be hard on you guys. I don't question your job, what you're doing is amazing and demanding, especially with pricks like me. But I definitely question the devs' sense of priorities. They seem to be doing what they please, regardless of what's important or not. But, oh well, it's just a game, and it's not my baby, it's theirs. I shouldn't be putting my heart into it, but I just love it too much.
Thank you for your report!

Confirmed for 16w02a. Mobs jump around like crazy when hit/punched/burn.
confirmed
Being poisoned causes you to bounce around backwards like a madman
Also happens on Mac os x 10.11.2 and Java7u67
This is just wiered! Snapshot: 16w02a!
Snowballs from dispensers pushes mob to any direction, instead of one!
Can confirm died twice because of it, fall damage and fire damage do cause knockback, this is only in 16w02a, never happened to me before.
This was a side effect of another attempted bugfix and is now reverted to the old behavior.
Knockback has always been on these forms of damage. Fall damage, fire, poison, wither, etc. This bug merely intensified the problem. These should really be removed. Actually, they should have been removed back when knockback from drowning became a problem as this method of applying knockback to any kind of damage was always bound to cause problems for future applications in the game. Knockback. Player on Player/Monster/Projectile contact only. External forces only. No status effects. No internal elements should have a say in how my external physical form behaves other than how fast I lose hearts/hunger/other stats.
So is this normal then? What you see in 16w02a?
xFuzzy no, it's fixed for the next snapshot
@FVbico: I wonder how you think it's fixed in the next snapshot, the fix version said Future Version 1.9
fix version: future version "next update"+ always means the next snapshot
don't beleve me, read [Mojang] Searge (Michael Stoyke)'s comment:
Yea, I just took fall knockback In my 1.9 survival world.
Man, I just fell on top of that 1x1 simple block tower people make like a beacon (don't ask me from where I fell), and then I was knocked back and fell even more, directly onto the ground! Of course I died...
Hey infinity bows won't worked with tipped arrows, and the bow doesn't have auto infinity in creative with the tipped arrow, which is absolutely terrible in survival situations, so i beg you to please fix this bug
Here's a video I made: https://youtu.be/3lTknrX36A0
confirmed fixed
Oh, wow 16w03a is out. Offtopic question: How do I get notified about new versions? Is there any way to get notified within minutes?
I don't think so. The closest you can get is subscribe to the mojang.com blog with an RSS reader. If it enables notifications, then you're all set!
Thank you, I've set that up now, will look if it works.
