Offline Couch-Coop Crashes the Game on Xbox One
When trying to add more than two players to the game through local-play/couch co-op, the game crashes. I tried this a number of ways, the first was through the main menu, but when it loads the first level, it crashes and goes back to the xBox Home.
I tried to get around this by playing through as one player, got to the camp and then tried to add the other two players in but when adding the third in it crashed back to xBox Home.
Two player couch co-op works completely fine when adding them in at the first camp, but adding a third in always crashes the game.

Same for PlayStation version of game when playing local co-op. Very high incidence of game crashing randomly. Very rare that we can complete 2 levels consecutively before it crashes. Some days we can't even complete 1 level before it will crash.

Hi, we're aware of this issue.
I believe there might be a misunderstanding on how this platform works. We're collecting bug reports about the game here, but in order to send them over to the devs, we want to only have a single open ticket about a bug. As such we close new incoming tickets as "duplicates". That does not mean that the issue has been resolved or fixed, it just means that we're already aware of the issue and tracking it elsewhere, and therefore the ticket has been closed / resolved.
Although tickets that have been closed as such are called "resolved", the more important thing to take a look at is the "Resolution" value, which explains how the ticket was closed / resolved.
In this case, we're tracking the Xbox crash bug here: MCD-1059
Mojang is aware of it and working on a fix.
This a PC version of the similar bug on another platform MCD-1059.
I have 4 USB Xbox controllers that are hooked into a powered USB hub on my Windows 10 PC. The primary controller can start the game, and then when the second controller presses "L" to join, both the primary and secondary controllers become totally unresponsive and no buttons work. If the mouse is used to try and select anything, the cursor will move and the onscreen toggles will move as if clicked, however they will not change anything. However each controller's Xbox button can launch the Xbox Game Centre overlay, so I know that Windows knows about them, but Minecraft Dungeons doesn't.
I can't do anything beyond forcing the game to quit through the Windows Task Manager. Of course, the third and even fourth player never work, because I can't get beyond the second player.
Can confirm this happens to me as well with 2 or more players on couch co-op. Xbox one X
Game attempts to load first level and then hard locks at the loading screen.
Single player works fine.
Yeah, crash at initial load after adding two local co-OP accounts. Single player seems ok. This is on XBox One X
Same issue. After adding the 3rd kiddo it would not let them play just kept crashing to Xbox dashboard. 2 player co op seems to be working at the moment.
Same thing (3 local accounts), Xbox one X. Rebooting didn't help.
The same. Hasn’t worked a single time. Super disappointing as this was supposed to be the game to play with the kids. Should be considered as a high prio fix imo.
I managed to find a work around to play with my kids. We would only have one person start a game and instead join at the camp, this itself doesn't always work - sometimes 3 attempts as it keeps crashing - but we got there in the end and managed to play as a family. However this is a very rough work around and still needs fixing properly.
it crashed for me even with 2 players and then I switched player 1 with player 2 and tried again and It started working. After the switch, even 3 players worked ok.. weird. I am not using Guest accounts.
the workaround mentioned by Jussi Pitkänen worked here also.
Same problem on Xbox One. Can usually get two players going from camp using Jason Rylatt's solution, and after many tries got three players working once. Not using guest accounts. Rebooting has no impact on the likelihood of the crash as far as I can tell. I have never managed to start the game from the menu with more than one player - that always results in a hard crash on the loading screen.
We have the same issue, but on an Xbox One X.
As soon as we try to start a new local game with 2 or more players, the game crashes during the loading of the first level.
Same issue with local coop on X Box One. Finally got a three player game to work after a hard reset, but then after saving that game and trying to restart a new two player game, we had the same hang during loading and then crash.
That is even worse than what we been experiencing on PS4
MCD-1388I can confirm this on Xbox One. Two players were in the game and as soon as the third person joined, if we pressed start the game crashed. The game WAI if there was only two players. Yet we tried again the next day and the bug did not occur.
One first playing the game we were unable to add a third player in either the title screen (crash on start) or camp. Progress was made by changing the third player's skin from Alex to something else. However, adding local players is still extremely buggy. Dropping third player out, adding back crashes. When returning to game that has been left idle, player one won't respond to the same controller and adding another player back in results in a crash. Played on Xbox One X. Hard to see how local play was actually tested given the sheer number of crashes we've had.
Got my 8 and 5 year old excited to play local co-op. They used some of their allowance money to purchase the game and they've been excited to play, it's too bad this bug is still around. I'm on the xbox one and using local play. I've verified that all three xbox controllers are working, so they're not a variable in this bug. I've seen this bug manifest itself in a few ways.
1. On the main logon screen, i can select 1st player's character. I depress the left joystick button to have 2nd player join. The screen changes to the character selection screen, a blue fire appears indicating (I think) that 2nd player account doesn't have already made character (which is false). It displays the option that I can press 'A' to create a new character, however, pressing 'A' does nothing. In fact, at this point, no buttons bring up any interaction with this screen. The game has not frozen because the fire animation continues. The controller is still connected, because I can press the xbox button to bring up the menu. However, I can't even back out of this screen. I have to sign out 2nd player to return to the main logon screen in order to interact with the Minecraft interface again.
2. On the main logon screen, i can select 1st player's character. I depress the left joystick button to have 2nd player join. The screen changes to the character selection screen, the 2nd player character appears. Minecraft Dungeons displays that I an select this character by pressing 'A', however pressing 'A' does nothing.
3. On the main logon screen, i select the 1st player's character and start a local game. The game loads me to the main camp area. I select the options button to show the friends screen and then I depress the left joystick button to have 2nd player join. I have seen three different things happen at this point:
3a. The game shows 2nd player's character, but now no buttons will work to allow me to select the character and I have to sign out in order to return Minecraft Dungeons to 1st player's main camp.
3b. The game shows a blue fire indicating that no character has been created for 2nd player and to select 'A' to create a character. No buttons will work to allow me to select the character and I have to sign out in order to return Minecraft Dungeons to 1st player's main camp.
3c. The game freezes, the audio goes to a monotone sound (probably the last tone that was playing when the game froze). The game hangs for 5-10 seconds and then i am returned to the xbox home screen menu where I can load up Minecraft Dungeons again no problem.
I have successfully gotten all three players to login after multiple attempts to close the game down and trying to re-login in players. It appears that signing out a player and signing them back in multiple times does nothing. The only things that has seemed to work is when I load the normal Minecraft game (not Dungeons) and I have all three players login into normal Minecraft. I then press the Xbox button to get to Xbox Home. I select Minecraft Dungeons and it loads up. On the main logon screen i have been able to load all three players and then start my local game. However, this process usually takes 30 minutes of me trying to load in and out of Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons and usually when I tell my two boys that if this doesn't work, we'll have to play something different, it works.
Please fix this bug, my boys love your game and want to play it! Just please fix it!
Obviously when Mojang has to mark 25 issues as duplicates to this problem, there are plenty of people seeing the same problem. This issue was created 1 month ago. Until that point I'm going to ask for a refund and follow the status on this ticket, if and when this ticket is resolved, my boys and i will repurchase the game. If Notch was in charge, this problem never would have been allowed to remain a problem for this long...
Andrew Sieler expresses my issues perfectly, although since the latest update we have been unable to play. Maybe due to me not having the patience to have more than two attempts to avoid the dreaded monotone crash.
Andrew Seiler’s 3c is exactly what we experienced. At first launch, second player could not join at menu. Second player could join after first player was in camp. Played 4 missions. Player one continued some play. Then, when trying to re-join player two, we lost ability to add a second player where we had been successful before. After first player logged in at camp, second player logs in, then the game freezes on character selection screen, then game crashes.
What DID work at this point was going onto the menu and adding second player from there.
