Works fine for me on Windows 7 64 bit. What is your environment?
Mac OS X 10.8.2
I also tried it on Windows 8 and the same thing happens.
I know it used to work, but I am not sure what changed.
This seems tied to the version of Java you're using.
I tested both Java 6 and Java 7 (both 32-bit) and found that Java 6 allows you to tab through the login/password boxes, Java 7 switches to the web news pane when you hit tab.
For me it does not even go to the news pane. It just sits on whatever box I have selected.
You won't see it move to the pane, but if you press the up or down arrows, it should scroll around the news pane. This might be related to how Java 7 changes focus on Tab Key press http://dogfeathers.com/mark/java7issue.html
It could very well be, but pressing the keys does not move the news up or down. The cursor just sits there flashing on the username box.
Seems related to your system. Im on Java 7 win7 64bit and it switches to the newspanel.
I'm also on a Mac: Mac OS X lion (10.7.5)
I have the same problem.
(maybe you want to use magiclauncher)
I also get this bug. Ubuntu 10.04. java version "1.6.0_24"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.11.4) (6b24-1.11.4-1ubuntu0.10.04.1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.0-b12, mixed mode)
Confirmed in Windows 7, Java 1.7. For me, Tab key when cursor is in username field switches focus to the main news window (confirmed by pressing up and down arrows to cause scrolling)
Ditto in Win 7, Java 7 Update 10.
I am not sure if the Bug Tracker covers the bugs in Minecraft Launcher.
Happens to me too. Windows 7, Java 7
I'd move to say this bug is invalid because it involves the launcher. The reason why the tab key doesn't work on Mac is likely the same reason it didn't work in game either, but maybe they'll have fixed that when they release the new launcher with 1.6.
Anyway, the issue with Java 7 switching to a different item than the password box is an unrelated issue to what was originally reported anyway, so this issue is talking about two problems that are both unrelated to the game.
Happens to me on all the Apple computers at my university. Very annoying because it lets people see my password
Interestingly the release note for MC 1.5 reports that the TAB key now works in a lot of other different places (
MC-334).Perhaps the same medicine is needed for the login?
Issue reproduced on Mac OS X 10.8.2 using todays latest version of java (jre-7u17-macosx-x64).
PS.: Using 'Magic Launcher 1.0.0' you are able to TAB from the login-name to the pswd field
PPS.: I am unable to change "Affects Version/s:" to also include version 1.5 - I guess higher privileges are needed in order to do so
Yeah, you have to be a mod or the creator of the ticket. What release notes are these from?
Confirming issue. Selecting Username field and pressing tab will move cursor focus to apparently nowhere - no amount of pressing tab will then select anything else. Minor issue but annoying. Windows 7 64bit, Java 7u13 (64bit).
Looking in my browsers history I can see the reference here:
http://mac.softpedia.com/progChangelog/Minecraft-Changelog-85499.html
And I can also see it's not an "official" reelasenote, but I guess they are searching JIRA for the changes…
Would really love to see this fixed.
