When trying to make a copy of my world, I receive the error message: failed to create a copy of your world. (see first attachment)
It then creates a copy of the initial seed of the world with none of the work, items or achievements still in place. (see second attachment)

Are you sure you have sufficient storage space available to successfully make a copy of the world?
I'm currently having this same issue on my HTC U11, and I have over 15GB of available storage space. The new copies will also say that they were created 12/31/69, and that they're anywhere between 100-150MB. If I go into the world and exit though, it will then change to say it's only 2-4MB and will have the correct date.
I am also having the issue where as soon as I try to even move in my world, it will exit the world and say that "You are out of data storage space and Minecraft is unable to save your progress. Minecraft will return you to the main menu to clear up storage space." so I'm assuming the storage is just buggy.
Can you please confirm if you are using the internal or application storage setting? Also, which device you are using.
I have a similar issue, the difference is when I have copied the world, the copied one is fine—like all my builds are there, however, when I plug my iPhone 6s to a MacBook, the iTunes just said that the “games” file can’t be copied since a duplicated file is specifired. I found that the duplicated files are all png files. So has it something to do with my own copied world or it’s some bugs in the version of the game itself? Thank You!!😭
Similar happened to me I got the message but nothing was copied. I had all of the resources and space to do it but nothing happened just the error message. When I closed down Minecraft and turned it on I tried again and it then worked. I was using a Kindle Fire HD and my Minecraft was on 1.4.4
My problem is different, to me, if the world is saved correctly, what I can not do is a duplicate copy of a particular world.
When I close the world, all the progress resources are saved correctly, what I can not do is a duplicate. It's not because of lack of space because I erased other worlds leaving enough space.
It does not put any particular error, just when it reaches 41% of the copy, it stays for a while and the message that the copy of the world could not be released.
this just happens to me in a single world, of the rest of the worlds I can make copies without problems.

Same. It’s not a storage issue and hugely irritating.
Attempting to copy or enable experimental gameplay gives me the same error.
Goes from 0-100% fairly quickly then says it failed to copy.
No copy of that world is created, not even an empty one with the same seed.
iPhone 7 on latest version of IOS, latest version of Minecraft. More than plenty of storage available (50GB+).
Very annoying, hope this gets fixed soon.

I have the same issue. iPhone 7s, up to date on OS and Minecraft, 20GB of free space are left. I could copy worlds two months ago but haven’t been able to recently.
I too have this issue. I am on 1.12.0 with an honor 10 lite. For some reason, I cannot copy my survival world, and I have well enough space. I really hope this gets fixed, because if I lose the world, I will cry. I have put so many hours on it and it's unfair that ANYONE loses their world because of this bug.
I can’t copy a world that is only 50 MB, but smaller worlds work just fine. (1.13.0)

if you are on ios go to files>on my ipad/iphone>Minecraft>games>com.mojang>minecraftworlds find your world folder(you can recognize it from the world icon)and duplicate the folder
I have over 2 GB of space available in my MinecraftWorlds folder and my survival world is about 127 MB. However, it fails to create a copy. This isn't really the end of the world since I can duplicate the world folder in my files, but it would be way more convenient if I could copy the world directly from the game to make backups.
Also, on a copy of my survival world, I messed around in game and made the world size larger but I was able to copy it but not the original world. (Eventually deleted the copy because it was me testing stuff in creative)
If anyone knows what could be wrong or how to fix it, please tell me, I'd appreciate it.
My world is over 400MB of storage and it stops at 40% of copying im guessing its a bug of 1.16.20?
Ive had to do this world over 4 times now and i cant lose it! Am i able to send the storage to my pc?

I have this problem, too. I try to copy my world of 189 MB, but at 40% or 100% it says it failed to copy. Lately I’ve been finding so many bugs with mcpe 1.16.50, especially with realms. So frustrating! My version is 1.16.50 and I play on an IPad Mini

Hi, I got the same issue in beta 1.17.30.20 in external storage worlds (worlds in application storage can still be copied)
Same issue here, on Minecraft Bedrock for Nintendo Switch.
I am trying to activate the new Caves and Cliffs experimental feature on a specific world but it does not work it gets stuck on 40% and gives me "Failed to generate copy".
It works for any other worlds.
