Multiple mobs spawn on one block at the same time
Steps to reproduce
- Watch mobs spawn naturally.
Expected result
Each mob spawns on its own block.
Actual result
Sometimes mobs spawn 2-4 all on one block, then split apart from each other.
Original description
I don't know if this is a bug or not, but mobs spawn on the same one block. It looks like multiple mobs going out from one. I see this very often and it's a weird sight.

Updated the description. "Mobs" is short for "mobile entities" and includes monsters, animals, villagers, etc.
@not Your picture shows that there is not enough light in the room to prevent monster spawns. The block with the left side of the creeper picture is at light level 7, and it looks like the other blocks in front of the furnaces are at level 6 or 7 at most.
@----
Some mobs spawn in groups by design. If you think that groups spawning all on one block is a problem you may vote for MCPE-66319. Cats not consistently scaring creepers is tracked at MCPE-38533.
This ticket will be resolved as a duplicate of MCPE-302.
Thanks for adding the extra information. This issue is already being tracked at MCPE-66319, so I will re-resolve and link this ticket as a duplicate.

This bug is trivial to reproduce. Open MCPE-47846.mcworld
and look around. Step on the pressure plate to kill the mobs, then watch more spawn.
I see no reason to think the described behavior has not existed in any version of the game. MCPE-10218 was just closed b/c of one comment from a person who probably never tested, but just hadn't casually observed it in a while. I've noticed it since I started playing in 1.12 It's just somewhat rare to see and most players either don't notice it or don't feel that it's a problem.
The test world also provides an easy way to observe MCPE-66319.
The "glitched drowned with two heads" is probably just a herd spawn. Drowned spawn in herds of 2-4, and herds spawn with all of the mobs at the exact same position (MCPE-66319). It's obviously a red-herring since I was able to reproduce a problem with coming through a the nether portal at the coordinates stated on iOS. I just don't have an iPad, and iPads have a bigger problem with rendering in recent versions (MCPE-106349).
The appearance of lunging at you is partially caused by MCPE-37789.
The “exploding outward” may be working as intended, because that’s how herd spawns happen in Bedrock Edition (MCPE-66319). However, it may also be exaggerated due to MCPE-114701.
Magma cubes should spawn in groups of 1-4 or 2-5 according to the herd sizes given in the vanilla behavior pack spawn_rules\magma_cube.json. However, they only ever spawn one-at-a-time. According to this comment on MCPE-46540 that is because LavaSlime::checkSpawnRules() cancels spawns that would collide with existing entities, and in Bedrock Edition herds attempt to spawn all at the exact same spot (MCPE-66319).
Steps to reproduce
- Create a large platform in a biome that spawns magma cubes.
- Watch.
- Run /kill @e 3 times and keep watching.
Expected result
Magma cubes spawn in groups of 1-4 or 2-5.
Actual result
Magma cubes always spawn alone.
Zombified piglins should spawn in groups of 2-4 according to the herd sizes given in the vanilla behavior pack spawn_rules\zombie_pigman.json. However, they only ever spawn one-at-a-time. The cause seems to be the same as for magma cubes reported at MCPE-138138: their hard-coded spawn rules cancel spawns that would collide with existing entities, and in Bedrock Edition herds attempt to spawn all at the exact same spot (MCPE-66319).
Steps to reproduce
- Create a large platform in a biome that spawns zombified piglins.
- Watch.
- Run /kill @e and keep watching.
Expected result
Zombified piglins spawn in groups of 2-4.
Actual result
Zombified piglins always spawn alone.
Mobs naturally spawning at the same point was reported at MCPE-66319 and resolved by Mojang as "Won't Fix".
Collision has never pushed overlapping spawned mobs apart until one starts to change position, probably because collision is only factored as part of position updates. It's not like real-life physical things that have intrinsic continuous spontaneous energetic interaction with the rest of the physical world.
That being said, I do think you may be right that at some point in the past, as soon as one mob moved they would all split apart. Now only the mob that tries to move gets ejected from the group. I noticed this when teleporting mobs to a single spot in 1.19.83. This may be intended as a optimization measure, to reduce the number of collision-momentum calculations the game performs when mobs bump each other.
For the summoning -> spreading scenario, could you achieve what you want by placing the armor stands at slightly different positions?
Thank you for your report!

The issue with multiple mobs spawning on one block is reported in MCPE-66319, which is resolved as "Wont Fix". Please do not comment on that report.
The bug I'm reporting is not a copy of MCPE-66319, it's a new issue. I'd like to tell you that the horses, pigs, cows, and sheep are no longer scattered when they spawn, and to be clear, you won't find any naturally spawned mobs scattered apart. They are all stacked on a block when they spawn and then forced to squeeze apart
That is quite literally what MCPE-66319 is about.
I see it all the time too. It looks weird..
Can you please provide a screenshot? Is this the only spawnable block in the area?
What happens is the mobs (like sheeps) spawn in a group of 3 in one block and just spit out because of mob collision. I don't know if it's a fault with the mob spawning or if there is just too many mobs spawning at once.
I've attached two video clips.
Yep, that's what I'm seeing.
i have seen this to
An entity has a chance of spawn in a pack.
This is just how pack spawns work in Bedrock Edition.
leo: The bug tracker is not meant to be used like a discussion forum. Comments are for reporting additional information that might help Mojang find and fix the problem. Requests like "please fix it" are redundant (that's implicit in every bug report), and opinions like "it's really disgusting" are not helpful. Comments that don't add information are subject to removal.

No, it doesn't mean that. It's not up to the bug tracker staff to decide whether something will be fixed, that's Mojang's decision. This report and its duplicates will soon be summarized and forwarded to Mojang so they can make that decision.
You seem impatient. I'm getting the idea that you came here expecting to report a problem and have it fixed within a few minutes. Unfortunately, bug fixes don't work that way. Even a simple, high priority bug takes at least a few days to fix, and some bugs have to wait for years while higher priority bugs are fixed first. I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but this is very likely not going to be fixed any time soon. It will almost certainly be a low priority bug because it has no negative effect on gameplay. (Pack spawns have always worked this way, and nobody has ever claimed it was preventing them from making progress in the game.) So I expect it'll be a long time before it's fixed, if it ever is. But again, that's for Mojang to decide.
Please note, after we've forwarded the report to Mojang we won't be able to tell you anything about its status/what they're doing about it. The bug tracker staff aren't Mojang employees, we're just community volunteers who collect and enhance bug reports and submit them to Mojang. We don't have access to their internal systems or the individual developers, so we can't tell you anything about what's going on. Like you, the only way we know a bug has been fixed is when it appears in a changelog.

Affects 1.16.0.68 as usual 😥
Confirmed for 1.16.0
This is not a bug. When mobs spawn, they spawn in the same block, most mobs in groups of 2-4. This should be marked as works as intended.
We expect it will be, but we have a guideline that we don't resolve an issue as WAI unless and until we have evidence that Mojang has declared it so.
Thank you for your report!
However, this issue has been closed as Won't Fix.
