Shulkers do not stop particles
As seen on the picture, shulkers do not stop particles from going upwards, while blocks do.
Why I think this is an issue and it should be fixed
While it is not a major issue with the game itself, it is still a minor bug. Bugs are supposed to be fixed, even if they are really minor. It might be an issue with how particles interact with hitboxes, therefore it could be a slightly bigger issue which might come out in a bigger form in future versions is something is added. For people with OCD it might be insulting to see this happening as well. Also for decoration purposes it would be cool, as I found this bug out while decorating.
How I found out about it
I wanted to build with the end portal texture on my server, as that texture is special, and I wanted to stop the particles coming from it, so I thought about moving a shulker just above it. It might not work even when this bug is fixed though. ![]()

(This issue originates from snapshot 24w13a, when the smash attack particles were added)
If the player performs a smash attack onto a player (or entity in general) that is standing on top of a shulker entity, no particles will be created. This is unexpected, as the "crackling" sounds are created, indicating the attacked entity is standing on solid ground.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Spawn a shulker with NoAI
/summon shulker ~ ~ ~ {NoAI:1b} - Place a player or entity on top of the shulker
- With a mace, fall far enough to perform a smash attack onto the targeted entity
Observed Behavior:
The smash attack sound, and the crackling block sounds will play, the entity will take damage, but no particles will be produced.
Expected Result:
Because shulkers appear as blocks, and their actual block counterparts produce particles, it would be expected that shulkers also would create particles, as they are a solid surface that the player can stand on.

But Shulkers are entities not a block, and even if something is implemented to make particles interact with entities, they should interact with all entities, not just shulkers.
Furthermore, each particle type has different behaviors, and some like "flame" are not even stopped by blocks
Well, if you put fire under a solid block, most soke gets stopped; and since shulkers are mobs in disguise, they could perhaps interact with particles.
Furthermore, last time I checked, the "cloud" particle falls down when you stand in it.
Can confirm for MC 1.12.1.
Affects 18w50a, can I request ownership of this ticket?
Entity's do not stop particles. They would have to make a major change to the game to implement this. I think this is working as intended.
Confirmed in 24w12a. This affects boats too, note that
MC-249041is a thing though.
