The hand animation is inconsistent when right clicking redstone ore in different contexts
The bug
When right clicking a redstone ore block in different situations with different items, the hand animation's behavior will be inconsistent. In all cases, the redstone ore will activate, but sometimes the hand animation will, or won't play.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Place down redstone ore a few blocks into the air
- Stand in front of the redstone ore
- Try and place a solid block next to the ore (should not place, as you are blocking it)
→
Redstone ore is activated, hand animation doesn't play. - Try and place a lantern on a side of the redstone ore, with no support above or below it (so that it cannot be placed)
→
Redstone ore is activated, hand animation doesn't play. - Place a torch on a side of the redstone ore
- Right click the redstone ore itself with a torch (on the same side as the previously placed torch)
→
Redstone ore is activated, hand animation plays.

Created Issue:
Right clicking redstone ore with a block that cannot be placed because it would intersect an entity or needs support, doesn’t play hand animation even though the redstone ore gets activated
The bug
When you right click redstone ore with a block that cannot be placed, because a player or mob is standing there, it doesn’t play the hand animation. If you right click it with a block that can’t be placed, because it needs support, it also doesn’t play the hand animation. However if you try to place a block on it, when the position is occupied by a different block, the hand animation does play.
How to reproduce:
- Place a redstone ore
- Hold a solid block in your hand, for example stone
- Look at the redstone
- Stand close to the redstone ore, so that you can’t place the block, but still target the redstone ore
- Right click
The hand animation didn’t play, even though the redstone ore was activated and it emitted particles.
