Baby zombies are not spawned when right-clicking onto an adult zombie with a zombie spawn egg
Right-clicking a mob with the same spawn egg will usually make a baby of that type if the mob got a baby stage, (so no babies at creepers, endermen, etc)
but then i tried it with zombies
WHAT I EXPECTED TO HAPPEN: a baby zombie would spawn under the zombie since baby zombies exist
WHAT HAPPENED: Nothing ![]()

When using a polar bear spawn egg on a polar bear, it creates baby polar bears. This behavior is not in line with how it is supposed to work, as noted by the resolution of MC-2871. Since polar bears can not be bred by any means in game, they do not fit the requirements for their spawn egg to have such a behavior (only breedable mobs fit the requirements). Update: This also affects zombie horse spawn eggs and skeleton horse spawn eggs.
Thank you for your report!
We're actually already tracking this issue in MC-2871, so I resolved and linked this ticket as a duplicate.
However, that ticket has already been resolved. Depending on the resolution, that can mean that it either will be fixed in the next version, or that it is not considered a bug and won't be fixed.
If you haven't already, you might like to make use of the search feature in the future to see if the issue has already been reported.

Can you update the MC-2871 then? and make me the Reporter, as it is a really old bug report that needs to be updated.
MC-2871 is not reopened, still on invalid status.
Left over from MC-2871.
Very likely WAI, but I've seen other people complaining about this, so I figured I'd post it here just to be sure. Relates to MC-2871 and MC-165524.
When using a spawn egg on a slime, one may expect a tiny slime to be spawned as a result, analogously to spawn egg mechanics spawning baby mobs when used on adult mobs. However this is not the case and nothing is spawned at all.

I'm assuming this is because zombies can't breed.
But right-clicking other mobs with their spawn egg spawns babies too! You can even spawn baby villagers even if you cant force them to breed!
P.S. it isn't working at zombie-pigmen too! (yes, they got a baby stage what cant be viewed without external editors)
Which mobs are you creating as babies with eggs? Ocelots, wolves and other animals? Or are you getting baby skeletons, creepers, pigmen etc as well?
You can create babies by right-clicking a mob what got a baby stage with its spawn egg, so it wont work with creepers, ghasts, skeletons but it works with ocelots, wolves, cows, sheeps, chickens, villagers, etc
what I'm talking about is that zombies and zombie pigmen got a baby stage (even if you can't find baby zombie pigmen naturally)
and i liked to say you can't spawn their baby stages even if this 2 mobs got babies!
Yet just breedable mobs can be spawned as babies.
Your issue is a feature request not a bug.
but you can't really "breed" villagers and still spawn them with eggs! so it should be possible with zombies and zombie pigmen too!
"it should be possible" = "feature request"
For feature requests/changes please use the MineCraft Forums: Suggestions
if something doesn't works what used to work you say "it should work but it doesn't" like if a disc wouldn't work then i would say: "The music disc should play music if placed inside a jukebox but it doesn't"
that is NO feature request, it is a report of something what doesn't works!
so it is unfair to close this issue just because i said "should"
I agree with Ali. It would seem reasonable to expect that if right clicking Villagers (a mob that can't be 'bred' by the player) with a spawn egg produces a baby villager, right clicking a Zombie (Villager or Human) would do the same, and create a baby of that species.
now, there ARE baby zombies in survival minecraft, does this still happening? if it is, it should be reopened.
I'd say this is a feature request. Since these mobs cannot breed, they can't produce their baby forms when clicked with an egg. This would be a cool feature though.
Pretty sure this should be reopened as well.

Still affecting the full release of 1.13.1
Still https://www.reddit.com/r/minecraftsuggestions/
For those that are clearly not understanding the situation, whether the mob is bred by the player or not is negligible, the fact remains that the mobs still breed in some form. Zombies and zombie pigmen do not breed under any circumstances however, so the reason for spawn eggs not having the desired effect still stands.
Still affecting 19w13b, I fail to see how this very obvious inconsistency has not been reopened yet.
Presumably, zombies do not bear children, and baby zombies are instead the result of infection. Whether or not the player can breed the mobs is irrelevant – the question is how the babies are produced.
Baby zombie and skeleton horses can be spawned through the spawn egg method, though, and can't breed, implying these are also only available through infection.

For the record, I don't believe breeding mechanics should be an argument for the usage of spawn eggs. These items are used in creative mode, and breeding is a survival mode mechanic. To connect these two together, why do these items then even exist.
In case anyone's interested in my reasoning: https://www.reddit.com/r/Mojira/comments/d5onh3/the_case_for_reopening_mc2871/
In 19w44a, the hand animation plays when right-clicking onto a zombie with a zombie spawn egg, but that doesn't happen with skeletons for example.
