Credit screen/End Poem music not playing correctly
credits.ogg (Named "Alpha" in C418's Volume Beta) does not play upon viewing the credits after entering the exit portal created by killing the Ender Dragon. The end poem can remain silent through the entire 10 minutes.
On rare occasions the track may play, but plays at the incorrect time and cuts out when the credits finished. I once had it just start to play at the "Twenty years from now..." quote, which is the very end of the poem.

@PanchamBro: that is MC-40275, which seriously needs to be reopened.
If MC-40275 is still an issue, make a comment on that page. Otherwise no one will know to reopen it.
@KingSupernova: have you read MC-40275's comments? I have, on multiple occasions. No reaction from any of the mods.
Try turning up your volume, end.ogg and credits.ogg are very quiet (I had to go up to 70 before I could here end).
If this is so, duplicate of
MC-40268My volume is set to 100 as well as my headphones, could not hear it at all.
I think it may have to do with the fact that the credits pause the game, and pausing the game also pauses music as of 1.7.
I would not really call this a dupe of
MC-40268, they are two different issues. 40268 involves the boss music playing at a low volume. This ticket is about the credits music not playing at all possibly due to the game being paused during the credits. Two different things that would not be fixed at once if they were seen as the same problem.
Fair enough... tested no audio at credits in single-player. SMP not tested at this time.
Thank you.
On a side note, I just tried going into the credits with the world opened to LAN, so the game would not pause music. It appears pausing is not the issue, as the music still did not play.
Update:
I just tested the credits using a resource pack. The modified music file (the one I added) did in fact play, but it didn't start until about 30 seconds into the credits, which is okay. The modified music file then continued for its entire duration without any errors.
I have not yet tested this in vanilla, but i would assume it works similarly.
Updated Update:
Tested in vanilla, song does begin playing, but not until line:
"To cure it of sorrow would destroy it. The sorrow is part of its own private task. We cannot interfere."
So, the music does play, it's just on a delay. Whether this delay is intended, we will not know until DInnerbone/Jeb/other developer confirms.
Hm, I'm testing it in my survival mode world and it is still not playing, even after that line. I have my music and headphone volume set to max too.
Very strange. At first, I thought I needed to turn my speakers up very high, but when I reached that line it began playing at normal volume (and of course, almost blew out my speakers).
My music volume was at 100%.
But I have a theory.
I have been doing most of my end credits testing on my server, which is running 1.7.2 (ask bukkit, not me). Both of the times the music played, it was on this server. Maybe it works (on a delay) in 1.7.2, but not 1.7.4, since i have tested it on 1.7.4 singleplayer worlds to no avail.
Well, I finally got it to play. However, it did not play until the "20 years from now..." quote at the very end, and it cut out as soon as the credits finished.
I think the problem is the game is treating the song like one of the random songs that play in survival mode rather than it being scripted to play as soon as the credits start. Music plays at intervals, and the tracks that play are determined by where you are and what the gamemode is. So when you are viewing the credits, the game still treats it like a survival mode track that randomly plays. So it would only play if the game decides it's time to play music, so it can start to play anytime during the credits, or just simply not play at all.
That seems to make sense. However, I still don't see how it would play immediately (or rather, when it is called for) when I have the resource pack installed.
Can confirm
Not playing at all for me, both in SSP and SMP.
not playing for me either
"I think the problem is the game is treating the song like one of the random songs that play in survival mode" <-- Music tracks don't play at random intervals. According to the wiki they play at dawn, noon, dusk and midnight. So if you're on single player time would be paused while you're in the poem (I think) and you wouldn't get a randomly timed song at all.
Wow, I can't believe this hasn't been fixed yet. It really is a shame since this song is so amazing (My personal most favorite song of all time) and a lot of people will miss out on hearing it.
Can we mark this as confirmed, please?
It doesn't work in 1.7.10 either. I know I would've heard it, since the credits.ogg I used in my Resource Pack is a bit on the loud side (and my speakers tend to make things louder, so 100% is like playing a rock guitar through a super amp)
I tested the credits/end poem a total of 10+ times on MC, and it still didn't play
Will Mojang be able to see it like this, or does it's status need to be changed to confirmed? If so, how do we change it to confirmed?
I just tested this in 1.8.1-pre4, and not only was the credits music not playing, the End music kept playing when the credits started. This suggests that there's a “stop all current music and play the credits music instead” trigger missing.
confirmed
I've never heard the credits music play before (whether it be on Single/Multiplayer in Survival or Creative). I only found out that Minecraft had music for the credits when I made a list of sound arguments for /playsound.... I asked my friends and none of them have actually heard the music play for the credits before either (let alone knew that there was music for the credits).
I don't really see much of a difference between 'Community Consensus' and 'Confirmed' - they're basically the same thing here, considering that bugs are reported/confirmed by the community. It's basically confirmed, so I say it should be labelled as such since I see no one saying otherwise/denying this as a bug.
Confirmed
Just tested and it played The End instead of Alpha. Affects 1.8.2-pre4, please reopen.
Fenhl (Max Dominik Weber), I can't confirm this. For me, it's playing the right track, Alpha (credits.ogg).Tested it some times and confirmed a lot of weird things.
As we can see, there are still a lot of weird behaviors, and the sound engine is terribly messed up (sorry Searge, I think you didn't fix anything). Hope we can figure out if there's still something wrong left, because this is an annoying bug. For now, please reopen this ticket if you mods get to confirm this behavior.
Finally someone looked!
Could this issue be related to
MC-35714and/orMC-35856? From Bentroen's and Fenhl (Max Dominik Weber)'s comments the game is either playing the End music again, playing both at the same time, or not playing at all.Affects 1.8.2-pre6. Why is this not reopened?
Fenhl and Bentroen, I think both of your issues are either
MC-35714/MC-35856...I did not hear any music upon entering the portal as well, assuming the music is suppose to start at the beginning of the poem. (music was enabled)
So, reopen for 1.8.3.
Dlawso the Really Lucky Rabbit and [~ericz1], even if these bugs are related or are the cause of this one, this ticket treats specifically about the credits. They can (and should) be marked as related, but they treat about different things and in my opinion, this one here should be reopened.
Huh... Everything's fine for me now. I wonder what's wrong on your guys' end.
I'm running Minecraft 1.8.3, on Windows 8.1, 32-bit, with Java 8 update 40. Music plays fine and is very fitting. I only wish it had always been like that....
Krev, how?! Test it some times more if you didn't, and you'll see that there's something wrong. If you don't find anything, yeah, maybe you don't have this bug on your end. But I'm having it here...
Mods? Can you do something, please??
So far the track has played every time I've entered the portal, I'm not sure what could cause it not to play for others. If a mod has to re-open it, so be it. I can't reproduce the issue again myself however.
Yep, I tried it a good 4 or so times, works perfectly... for me, at least. It's weird that it's not working for you. What "environment" are you using to run the game? I would think that that would have something to do with it if it's only working for some of us.
KnightMiner, Bentroen: Can you repeat with a new world the credit music not playing ?
If so, please re-repeat the process and attach a zip of the world here.
Strange, I just tried it again in both a new world and my old one, and the music played both times. I wondering if it was hotfixed, or if some lingering value had to be fixed automatically by the game first. (I did in one test notice
MC-35856though)Kumasasa, just tested it in a whole new world and the issue remained. But I'm only getting the result I got in my second test in the comment above: the song stops after the first note plays, and the credits remain silent. All the other cases are not happening, but still, there is a bug somewhere.
Also, even if it worked correctly in a new world, are you telling me it's only "fixed" for new worlds?? That sounds a bit weird.
Anyway, there's a download for the world here. Hope you can take anything useful out of it!
Cannot confirm using the test world that Bentroen has provided in 1.8.3. I literally checked three times before posting.
I already expected that. But actually, can it even be world-related? I don't see why could this happen. Anyway, it's still happening for me.
Bentroen, can you please force a crash and attach it here (and also provide any or all information regarding your sound card)?
Sorry for taking too long to answer. Unfortunately, my computer is having memory problems and I'm getting a blue screen every 10 min, so I can't access Minecraft. But, as soon as I fix the problem, I'll do the tests and gather all the info with the newer versions. I'm sorry! Hope I can do it soon.
I was experiencing this bug...updated to 1.8.7 and wow, the credits song works! The only problem I seemed to have was that, since The End (the song) was still playing when I jumped into the portal and was promptly cut off by Alpha, The End seemed to restart when Alpha began. At least the credits music is there for me...
Affects 15w31a. Why is this not reopened?
I assume it's not reopened because most people, including me who originally reported it, can no longer reproduce it. I know when I was playing 15w31a it played just fine when I was going through the end portal.
There seems to be some other variable that causes it that we're not sure of.
Probably. It's very weird that I could reproduce the bug in three different computers, and all the original reporters can't anymore. Also, I can confirm it for 15w31a. Don't know if this needs to be reopened, but I'm sure it needs further investigation.
Affects 15w32c. Are any of the mods still reading this? If so, could you please explain what's going on?
Confirmed for 15w32c without Resource Pack. Alpha (or credits.ogg) will NOT play. This needs to be reopened, as this is still a bug.Actually this bug is caused by music being turned off. Who knew. So, have your music on if you want to hear this. It was due to a setting.
There, re-opened. We sometimes miss stuff.
Thanks for reopening. I tested after making sure I had the music at 100% and could actually hear other music, and was still able to reproduce. Affects 15w35c.
Affects 15w35e.
I just heard Alpha in the Minecraft credits for the first time. However, it was also playing The End at the same time. Affects 15w37a.
Maybe the problem is caused by the end music playing when you enter the portal? I'll go test that in a moment.
Yep, can confirm. Happens when the end music starts to play before entering the portal. Oddly enough, after a few attempts to recreate (~3 or so), the music stopped altogether. Not just the credits, but the game music itself. Exiting and reloading the world didn't seem to do anything. Turning the music off then back on also did nothing. Restarting minecraft seemed to undo the sound being broken, however the bug itself still occurs.
Effects caused by the bug (that I've seen so far when entering the portal):
So yeah.... Idk anymore. The sound/music system is just crap I guess.
Affects 15w39c. Once again, only The End played.
Sebastiano La Gala: Any objections to giving the ticket to Fenhl?
Sorry for lack of response, I haven't been following this ticket as I have yet to encounter the issue again myself.
@redstonehelper, I have no objections to handing the ticket to Fenhl. Do as you wish.
Thanks, ticket is now Fenhl (Max Dominik Weber)'s.
Can't reproduce in 15w46a. Fixed?
Can't reproduce due to
MC-91803?No,
MC-91803is about no backround music playing, which is still an issue. This issue is about no credit music playing, and in my case it does play.Hm, maybe it's working because of
MC-91803. Leaving this open for re-test untilMC-91803is fixed.Despite otherwise being affected by
MC-91803, the game is currently playing ''Alpha'' after I jumped into the End exit portal and pressed escape to respawn in the Overworld. Problem is, it is playing the track twice, with a delay of about a second.Currently impossible to reproduce (at least for me) due to
MC-94394, so might be worth linking as related.@Fenhl (Max Dominik Weber): Sounds like
MC-97540.@[Mod] redstonehelper: This is likely related to
MC-35856, of whichMC-97540seems to be a duplicate.Unable to reproduce in 16w35a. Fixed?
Poem and credits seem to play fine for me in 16w35a as well. I did not test the music.
In Single Player the end poem and credits play as intended, music and all. In Multiplayer, they're skipped entirely, respawning the player the moment they step through the portal. I just tested it all myself and can say without a doubt that it's confirmed for 16w35a.
Someone should probably update the summary & description.
Unable to reproduce on a local multiplayer server running 16w35a.
Okay, further testing reveals that it actually has nothing to do with single/multiplayer, but instead has to do with how new the map is. Older maps suffer from this bug, while newer maps do not. Only real problem is I'm not sure where the threshold is between the two. I'll keep looking I guess.
I hope this issue fixed at 1.12 full release
So, the wiki says that the end poem/credits should play every time you enter the portal in the end. I went into the portal once, everything started to play but I skipped most of it since I had placed a nether portal nearby with /setblock and it was making sounds over the credits. Afterwards, I went back and removed the nether portal so I could actually enjoy the ending, but nothing played and I was simply put back at spawn.
So either the wiki is inaccurate now, or this is still slightly broken since the end poem/credits don't play after the first time going through them. (This is 1.12 btw)
