Randomly, particles that move from bookshelves to enchanting tables quickly flash black and then vanish, as opposed to their usual behaviour of a nice slow white movement from the bookshelf to the table.

In the attached video, I feed a dandelion to a baby rabbit, giving it green star particles, many of which render as black.
The determining factor seems to be the location of the center of the particle sprite, such that if it's obscured or behind another block face, the particle is considered hidden and not rendered properly. In a couple of cases you can catch the moment where the particle's center transitions from being obscured to not obscured and its color changes as well.

I did search for previous reports and found MC-925 and MC-63433 and MC-56143 which seem very much the same thing as this, but were all marked as a duplicate of MC-47683 which was resolved.
Confirmed on two separate machines here. I get them as flashing black icons however, not the normally animated ones.

not only with bookshelfs, when you remove a block and place it again, the breaking particles are inside a block and thus will be black.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 1.6.4 / Launcher version 1.2.5 ? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

[Mod] CubeTheThird I cant confirm this because I cant buy minecraft and i cant play offline with an account without the game buyed.
Is this still a concern in the latest Minecraft version 14w03b? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

Confirmed for 14w31a, although this bug is partially fixed. Particles only turn black when inside a block, therefore the particle returns to its default texture once outside of a block.

Whats happening with the first screenshot? Red top of a grass block?
Still occurs in 1.8 pre-3. I noticed it while mining block on the ground you could see the particles going black when entering the block above.
