And please don't make assumption without having tested that.
The player death statistics don't track all death types; they only show deaths that are attributable to a mob and these are also missing mobs like Wither Skeletons, Iron Golems, Snow Golems, Ender Dragon and Wither. (see MC-33710)
There are death message for these such as playerName fell out of the world and it counts it as a death (in general.deaths) but does not track it beyond that.
On my server, in my own players statistics.json file; the only attributable death i have is: entityKilledBy.skeleton => 1
however... it also states: general.deaths => 15
There are 14 deaths that are unattributable when they should be counted (remember; there are already death messages for a servers chat when these deaths occur).
These 14 deaths are things like falling to my death, drowning in lava, committing suicide or falling out of the world (these are all natural causes).

Yes, this is still an issue. This means that you can't have scoreboard objectives with criteria stat.killEntity.ender_dragon, as I discovered today.

Also affects the new illusion_illager as of 17w16a. Because it only affects living mobs without spawn eggs, will likely stop affecting it once it gets a spawn egg.
How is this still a thing in 1.12!? I feel like it's such a simple fix.. ;D no offense oc.. devs are very busy adding new things

This was actually fixed in 17w47a.
No, it was not; the a snapshot was lacking mob statistics in general; scoreboard criteria didn’t find it, and killing any mob did not result in the statistic.
I do see kill stats for Withers (and yes, I do mean Withers as opposed to Wither skeletons) as of 18w48b.
But add Vexes to the list of mobs without kill statistic.
I don't get how this isn't automated in Minecraft's internals?

Iron Golems, Snow Golems, Illusioners and Vexes still do not appear in the stats. This issue is not resolved as of 18w48b.
