Minecart sound randomly stops
Shortly after starting to ride a minecart (powered rail next to solid block gets powered) the sound of the minecart stops. It sometimes comes back when you exit the minecart and enter it again.
It seems to have something to do with lag, since it doesn't happen in a small test world. It happens in my big creative world, though.

Duplicate of MC-36952.
Confirmed.
This relates to MC-36952 as it is caused by the same problem where the sounds become rationed.
Although, it is absolutely a bug that upward bubble columns take more than x6 times the sound resources than downward bubble columns. Around 5 or 6 blocks of underwater soul sand begins to seemingly break all non-music sound to the point where block breaking sound effects become flickers as they're cut incredibly short.
Is this still a concern in the latest Minecraft version 13w48b? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
Yes, this is still an issue in 13w48b but I still don't see a consistent way to reproduce. It just happens sometimes.
Why is this resolved as invalid? It's still happening in 1.7.4.
Reopened.

Just tested this in 14w30c and it still happens when there is a moderate amount of lag and/or mobs making sounds. I attached a test world in which I was able to reproduce this bug in 14w30c. (Note that I trimmed the world in MCEdit 0.1.7.1 in order to reduce the file size to <=10MB before uploading it here.)
Still in 1.8.
Confirmed for 1.8.1-pre2. A possible cause is MC-1538.
Confirmed for 1.8.7.

Just happened to me in 1.11.2. It's easier to reproduce the results on longer rail tracks, and it might be possible that other sounds interfere with the minecart sound. It's more likely caused by lag due to chunk loading, which is more noticeable when entering/leaving the nether or overworld and soon after riding along a rail track.
Something else that has been happening is the minecart will start off with the normal sound, then it will sometimes become quieter for a little while, then it will finally become completely silent. This behavior leads me to believe that due to lag, the minecart and player locations temporarily stop updating, but the location at which the sound is being played continues to update. This would give the effect of a sound being played further away from the player, as sounds become less intense at a distance. This is just speculation, but it is worth checking out.
Is this still an issue in the most recent versions (currently that is 1.12.2, or the latest 1.13 development snapshot 18w07c) of Minecraft?
Currently testing a track of 500+ meters and I'm bouncing between the two ends a few times and nothing has changed. This is in 18w07c. It may take a few tests to reproduce the issue, or it may occur at random, so perhaps the issue should be postponed for now until someone encounters it again, because the test I'm doing is not causing the behavior.
Confirmed for 1.12.2 and 18w11a.
The cause is that sounds begin to be rationed when there are too many, I believe.
EDIT: This happens with most sounds and is not specific to minecarts.
Confirmed for 1.13-pre2.
The conditions to reproduce are the same, but here is the same problem from another angle using the currently resource-hungry upward bubble columns.

Can confirm for 1.13.2.
This has been fixed in 19w12a. I attached two videos: one demonstrating a fixed version, the other demonstrating a bugged version.
