I can confirm this with 14w06b. Using irunor's description from
MC-47700slightly modified:Some, not all, mined blocks jump to the next available air space above where they were mined.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Dig down a bit in survival. Only a few layers below the surface (2-4 worked for me).
2. Start digging or mining horizontally just below the surface.
3. Go up to the surface and look at the items that have jumped up.
The title might need to include "Items jumping to the surface" or next available air space.
Works even for deeper blocks ~10 blocks below the surface.
This happened to me around ~10-15 blocks underground. Some of the cobblestone I was mining ended up on the surface.
Also some drops end up ~5-6 blocks away on the ground instead of within 1-2 blocks of the place they were mined from.
Edit: Found blocks over 20 layers straight up from where I was digging. This has gone from a slight annoyance to a major problem for survival.
I can confirm this as well. I was mining at level 10 and only one of two lapis ores I silk touched showed up in my inventory. Found it at level 70 right above where I was mining.
Works for chopping trees, too, items will appear to fall down to you (looking up at the tree as you chop), but you won't here the 'pickup' sound, and stepping away, you'll see the item several blocks away, sometimes down the side of a mountain/cliff.
Edit: Lillypads, too, will fly off into deeper ocean
Edit 2: Managed to get cobble to jump from Y:11 to Y:56
Confirmed in 14w06b.
Environment: Windows 7 Home Premium, Java 7 Update 51
World: Customized superflat
Tested in: Creative and Survival
using mac same problem
Confirmed with pictures: http://imgur.com/a/LVC35
I am hoping this was fixed in 14w07a but it was not mentioned. Lost alot of things to this bug.
Also it doesn't appear to have anything to do with digging up, or even digging. Its just when any entity is created they appear to move further than previously and glitch into walls/ceilings/floors. Entities inside blocks naturally float upwards so a common experience when caving is to find entities on the surface or in higher caves
It has been updated as assigned which is usually a good sign that it will be in an upcoming snapshot. Given the rate of bugs in 1.8 snapshots, I would guess we have a fair few more to go. Since snapshots are by definition unstable, any use on your "real" worlds is at your own risk, thus the popup saying to take backups.
Very annoying bug.
i can also confirm this for the 14w07a, just made a flat world, fill a cube of 10 x 10, turned it into a cheese from all the tunnels and holes i did for testing, mined blocks either close or away from my character teleported above the "ceiling" waiting on top of the cube, or 3 blocks away outside the cube on the ground(this is after mine the block and the item been on the ground without picking or interacting)
i usually saw this behavior on normal survival when the game "lags" can't keep up and waits from 1 to 5 seconds to pop the block from normal to been mined with incredible out of proportion arcs or teleports between the location it should have fallen initially and the location the lagged arc left it
Please fix this annoying bug! Not in a week but right now. This is terrible.
Same thing happened when I was playing with my brother. I was branch mining and he saw cobble appearing on the surface.
This happened to me while playing the custom survival map World in a Jar. I was going to just report this. Thx
Confirmed.
Extremely annoying, especially since it routinely happens during strip mining — I have to go up and check the strip right above the one I just dug out. What's ridiculous is when it happens on the first layer of the mine, because then the blocks end up on the surface. Nope, blocks teleporting thirty blocks up are not funny. At all. Well, at least they don't just annihilate.
Is this bug really still classified as "Unconfirmed"? I can confirm it's happening in 14w07a. Blocks occasionally drop much farther away than normal, and if the direction they try to drop is occupied by solid blocks, they pop out at the next available vertical airspace (no matter the distance).
Extremely annoying, and should have warranted a 'b' snapshot.
I started a new game in snapshot 14w07a. First thing I do is chop trees. My usual method is to chop the bottom blocks, stand under the floating trunk, and chop upward.
Some of the wood drops (approximately 1 in 5) are appearing above the tree or even being thrown several blocks away from the tree. This most frequently occurs when the block broken is surrounded on 5 sides.
I saw someone's note about branch mining and the dropped blocks appearing on the surface. I am confirming this. Mining 5 blocks out of the ceiling of my dugout shelter, 3 of them dropped on the floor, 2 of them glitched up to the surface through 10~15 blocks.
This would be really aggravating if it happened while mining valuable resources.
Player recommendation: Until bug is fixed clear the space directly above any valuable resources before mining to avoid loosing them.
I concur with Sean McConnell. Try to clear the space above the resource being collected before mining the items. It seems to be the only way to prevent losing items to this bug. Unfortunately, this method will also use more of the tool's durability, but it is worth it to not lose items IMO.
Also, try to be patient with Mojang on this issue. I'm sure they are working on it or will very soon if not already. They have a lot on their table due to other Snapshot bugs. Remember, this is a Snapshot, not a final release.
Are you kidding me?!
14w08a is out and the worst bug ever is still not fixed?!
Shame on you!
I guess we can close of all other inferior bugs then!
Please excuse me. I love you Grum. But this bug is so incredibly annoying that every love ceases.
Hair on fire much? Seriously, it isn't' that big of a deal... it only happens maybe 10-20% of the time or something. If it bothers you that much then revert to the previous snapshot, or maybe the stable release instead of betas.
It will be fixed, eventually, we're not working on doing bugfixes right now.
This is good to know, thank you Grum
Is it safe to revert a world from 14w07a to 14w05b do you think?
Not supported so "safe" can't be said. Rule the first: backup, backup, backup. Try it but be ready to go back to the backup at any time.
happens to me >50% of the time in 14w07a,even at y=15, i know because I lost diamonds that way. it is extremely annoying, hope it's fixed soon!
14w08a
I was digging below a ravine. Some items popped out to the ravine floor. Found them a minute later.
Mined near lava - heard ssssssss every second block mined - it got transported to the near lava block.
Extremely annoying.
Occurs to me in version 14w08a when mining wood from trees. This happens with one wood block every tree.
Confirmed
I'm assuming code changes in preparation for the Mod API have had interesting effects on other parts of the game than were intended. I would hazard a guess that this bug is one of those completely unintended side effects and is taking some time to locate WHY this is happening. If it was something as easy as reducing the velocity at which blocks "drop" then it would have been fixed right away.
This bug has actually stopped me from mining on my server because I don't want to risk losing diamonds. I've never really liked how blocks pop out in random directions when you break them(it makes some simple cobblestone generators very inefficient because the cobble will fall into the adjacent lava rather than fall straight down into flowing water).
Let's not get mad at the nice programmers at Mojang for not fixing this right away. Grum assigned himself to this bug, and many others, so I'm sure he's trying to fix it(when they are actually doing bugfixes and not getting Realms ready). This is a snapshot bug only, not a 1.7.4 bug, so those of us that are suffering through it have only ourselves to blame for playing with unfinished code.
This bug is annoying me so much. I sometimes have to teleport items to me on my server. Very annoying and feels like cheating.
If a block is broken with another block directly above it, the broken block will sometimes travel up through the unbroken block, sometimes jumping through several layers of unbroken blocks until it hits air. This seems to happen with all types of blocks, and other items like paintings, torches, item frames, etc...
Broken items also seem to fly a very long distance from their breaking point, I don't know if this has anything to do with the bug in question.
Where is two temorary solutions for this matter :
I propably did some english mistakes in this language, I am really for that, I did my best but it's not my native language (and I am not really good ^^).
For the one who want to decrease in his game version, I did it one time, by mistake : all was clear : inventory, player stuff, chest... etc. I don't know how it's affect villagers, i restart imediatly my game with the good version.
Good luck for those who work on this bug.
I've got the same problem on my server. I think it's really annoying when after I mine there's a ton of cobblestone littering the surface.
My theory is that items have too much upward velocity when the appear after you break something.
I think you used the word rayon ( a polymer fiber they make cloths out of ) instead of radius ( distance from center ). I didn't really understand this selector stuff in the change logs. Are you saying that those commands make your player automatically scoop up items within 80 blocks?
That's it Phillip Susi. all item in a radius of 80 blocks (with r=80).
The same is happening for me. I almost lost a block of diamond ore! Count your ores as you mine them!
This bug has been annoying the crap out of me in single player. I'm surprised it hasn't been fixed yet =/ The worst part is when I'll be mining and I'll start to hear blocks falling into lava somewhere in the distance.
Stephen, okay, that explains it! I kept hearing a "burning in lava" sound too when I was mining, but didn't think much of it.
This along with the fact when harvesting blocks/items they often display as popping in one direction and wind up a few blocks away in another possible location to where they could have popped to instead is getting old. I hope they intend to fix this bug at the very least before doing any sort of official release. I don't care that it's in the "developmental" versions because that's what they're made for, to test things like this, but this bug in particular would make me walk away from Minecraft for a good long while if it isn't addressed before an official release. A "Hey guys, this bug is being worked on" wouldn't go amiss, knowing this bug is being addressed with little to no progress is a lot more comforting than it successfully being fixed with great progress with no information. I've only seen things get worse since 3D items and like-item-snapping from nearby blocks into stacks have been introduced.
I was a bit upset when I first encountered this bug, but my thought process has been changing. There is little harm in losing a few drops, and the game is more dynamic (and slightly more interesting) when I find those loose ores laying around in unexpected places. I know the game isn't intended to mimic real life, but it is worth noting that in real-life mining operation, a bit of loss can be expected. I certainly don't think that this is a big enough problem to cause people to quit playing. If this bug is marked as won't-fix and flying ores become the new normal, it's not a big deal.
Erik fix this soon please) Really annoying bug, I hope it's not gonna be in release, or Minecraft is lost for me again... What a reason to play if I lose my 1/5 of resources...
Koa Neuva, It says this bug is already assigned to Grum, so I guess it did "go amiss".
@George I could justify losing some resources in the process of digging if the item didn't glitch up to the next available space. However if that were the case I think they'd need to rework the tools to last longer.
@Walter I can't tell if you mean to say Grum isn't someone to rely on for fixing bugs, or if you can't read and that you don't understand I'm asking for a progress update from Grum or anyone else working on it.
@koa Neuva Sorry, I thought the update that was given was the update you were asking for. It looked so specific and accurate to me. Also, by all means I didn't mean to say anything about Grum, other than that he is working on it.
All, keep in mind all the background changes being made, especially to the actual structure of the models. I'm not a mojang developer but I would imagine all the background changes need to be finished and stabilized before stuff around them are worked.
Jeb himself has said 1.8 official is a fair ways out ( https://twitter.com/jeb_/status/441203859328106496 ) so there is lots of time for fixes and changes. If this or any other bug is enough of an issue for you, you should probably stick to the final releases and not the unstable snapshots.
I do not understand. You say that you are not on fixing bugs. But your repaired so unimportant bugs like that with the missing texture of vines.
I do not get it.
Please fix that!
Thank you so much, Grum! =]
@ Sean Anderson
I'll second that!
I've had the same issue on the Xbox 360 after the update Wednesday April, 29th 2015. When I mine any type of blocks underground their drops will appear either in a cave/room above or beside whete I was digging or on the surface. If you are digging ores, I've noticed they tend to drop behind you rather than in front of you.
