Reinstalling the game wipes all save data
The bug: Reinstalling the game will cause your save data to be reset.
I was getting unable to verify game ownership so i decided to uninstall and reinstall and then my character was gone
How to reproduce:
1. Start a save.
2. Reinstall the game
3. Enter the game and your save will be wiped.

So? what should we do? do you think it is correct to lose dozens of hours of gameplay due to a terrible local save system?
It's impossible to play Minecraft Dungeons on PC without Cloud Save
I agree with Hugo. what a bad system. I'm already getting dropped from network games again so I won't be resetting the game again. this needs fixed asap!
Just adding my vote and comment to this: the game crashed for me with an out of video memory (trying to allocate for texture), and then refused to run - it would crash out after the logo splash screens. Tried to repair it via the Win 10/repair store apps tool, no dice. Ended up re-installing it, and lost my L50 character. Even if you can't easily add cloud saves, I would suggest keeping a backup locally that won't be affected by a reinstall... v. frustrating!
They don't... Why they would release a game that can be played online that saves on your local drive and can be easily deleted by anything shows. Even if we take a step back, why would you not make it very clear your data is saved locally and not on a cloud.

Same problem here, i was testing the game with game pass and i would buy it, but after this i won't do this anymore.
i was lvl 118 with 105 power and i just lost everything

Hi Tomas - as this is very closely related to
MCD-1205(which has even more upvotes about the lost saves and corruption problems) does this mean that a fix is also being applied for that? Is there any idea of timeframe (days, weeks etc?)This is just so sad . Wasting all the time and then poof in one second. I don't feel playing the game anymore to be honest. Gladly I got the xbox game pass so I can try other games.But if we don't get our heroes back I think this is just so unfair.
Trevor Martin: It is closely related to that other ticket in regards of the impact (lost progress), but the root cause is vastly different. We are working hard on solving both of these issues, but as far as I understand we do know what's causing this bug but not what's causing
MCD-1205yet (keep bug reports coming, they are very useful!).Thanks for replying Tomas - in both cases it feels like a more robust backup save system at user level would address the main pain point for players, if not the underlying problem itself. I can appreciate that identifying bug related crashes is far more difficult than a systemic / process related issue such as this, but in both cases the major problem is lack of character file backup.

Dungeons simply needs server-side game saves. Microsft are not short of cash, azure is a thing, local saves in a loot grinding multi-player title that has many issues is only resulting in people losing interest in playing before the game has had a chance to really take off. This game made by a small team is fun and could be massive, it's probably already making a ton of cash. Do the players and the game a favour and make game saves server side.
This happened to my me and my son (two different PCs). We never uninstalled the game. One day we opened the game and it took us to the MS store. We were logged in to our correct and only MS accounts. The store would not let us play the game unless we clicked reinstall. There was no way around this! When the game ran, our characters were gone! Just... completely asinine.
Even if I uninstalled the game (which I didn't), every other game keeps the save data in a folder for future use. Get your stuff together gang and fix this.
Cloud Saves! Why isnt this a thing with a new release game? I installed MC Dungeons on my laptop after a confusing run around with windows store/xbox site saying I dont have it and only to see it not showing my current character I play on my PC which still has it.
Would solve alot of these issues with characters dissappearing or losing levels. Also reading about such issues with crashes and losing all progress doesnt really want me to keep playing if such an issue happened to my character.

Please keep in mind that we are currently working on implementing cross saves and cloud saves, which should hopefully help in avoiding issues like this in the future. This is described in this article.
