Bug when the character does not move in the intended direction. When clicking somewhere the character will attempt to move in the wrong direction (usually down in my experience), during this period it is also impossible to pickup items/enter dungeons/open chests.
I do not know what causes the bug, but it makes the game unplayable. I also do not know exactly how it fixes itself, as it has done after alt-tabs, attacking, rolling and inventory actions. It seems to randomly start and stop, I cannot reproduce it, but it happens an awful lot.

Notice how I am clicking and holding walk in other directions but the character keeps trying to move downwards.

I had been playing without issue for a couple hours. After loading a new map, I noticed the following occurrences:
- My character would sometimes move to a different location to where I clicked
- While doing this, my character would continue walking into terrain and enemies
- My character often tried to walk around terrain at the same level as them: like how your character would path to go up stairs to a higher level
- Often, clicking again would override this movement for a split-second, before the character would return to the unusual and incorrect path
- Sometimes the highlight around enemies would not show: I would be unable to attack them unless I used the 'shift' attack modifier
- Sometimes the highlight around items would not show: I would be unable to interact with them at all
- I fell through the map on multiple occasions

For me i didn't have a controller plugged in. i thought it could have been that but wasn't the issue.
no it just happens randomly, it could ruin a mission that you could have spent 30 minutes on...
it happens so often that you can't even play a mission because you have to keep restarting your game. Not using an external gamepad, or anything of the sort.
I wonder if this might be caused by something else hardware-related. Are you playing on a laptop? Might this be caused by the touchpad?
The bug only seems to occur when holding down the button so it seems to be more linked to the path finding built into the player movement then anything else. There is a few pathing weirdness sometimes when dealing with vertical drops which replicate similar behavior of going backwards.
I just found this, I posted a duplicate by mistake (seems the search function on this site is terrible).
While the character is bugged like this, it's also impossible to interact with things. This bug makes the game unplayable and I'm really surprised to see it has existed for this long.

Same thing for me i was in a huge dungeon and near the end of the dungeon i just quit. I did not have a controller plugged in when it first started happening. Once i plugged the controller in i could use the controller fine but the mouse was still bugged. You could no longer interact with any items and when you click and hold the mouse button it would make you go down but just one click would let you go to the intended spot fine. I hate using controller so i just alt F4

I've also experienced the bug several times at random, and it essentially makes the game unplayable while it's active. I've been unable to replicate it intentionally, as I have no idea what triggers the bug. I don't have a gamepad/controller plugged in, nor do I have a touch/trackpad (as I'm not using a laptop).

Hi. Same problem here.
I was able to observe that it happened usually when I running (pressed LMB) and press one of the artefacts (usually 1.). It get locked way I was pointing at the moment of pressing execution of artefact. I'm usually able to unlock it back by clicking (or holding LMB and pressing artefact executions buttons 1-3)
Adding to having this issue as well - for the time being, I'm shelving playing the game as I've lost a lot of progress where I cannot 'exit' the dungeon after the final boss battle multiple times. I notice it when I open my inventory after a fight or opening a chest to look at, equip new equipment or salvage equipment inside a dungeon. I'm not using any game controllers - just keyboard and mouse (Logitech Gaming Series).

I'm having the same issue, but I've noticed that a lot of the times its when a consumable drops. This for some reason locks my character into only running one way
I have the same problem as the OP. No gamepads or controllers plugged in.
It happens ALL over the place. It is clearly very very very bad path-finding. It amazes me that this game was released like this, and with no WASD to boot, huge slap in the face to PC players.
I particularly like when you are kiting around a nice herd of mobs, and it suddenly decides you cant go to where you clicked through the clear obvious path and decides to turn you around and run you into the center of whats following so you die.

Me and another guy are getting the same problem, consumables (from food reserves especially) make the glitch happen the most often.
hardware doesn't seem to be the culprit since we differ greatly in everything and from other posts as well.
This happened to me and there was no consumables at all, so this bug is weird, probably like someone already said, path finding issues.
I ran into this bug on the last level. After trying the dungeon three times only to have it happen randomly I've found I'm unable to complete the dungeon.
Holding the mouse to steer causes the character to run to the bottom right no matter the direction selected. Clicking allows it to go in the right place but very hard to play that way and unable to interact with doors.

I keep getting the same issue myself. I hate to restart the game each time this happens, it's the most annoying issue i've encountered so far with this game.

Maybe, I found a way to "fix" the problem temporarily. If the bug occurred, I switched my armor with one in my bags, then I could walk normally.
Edit: I try to replicate that again and record that.
Edit 2: I made a video about it and I could replicate this bug. With the reinforced mail as amor and activating my healing potion, I got the bug everytime. If I collect the dropped food, the bug disappears.
Amor, like soul robe, doesn't trigger the bug.
Switching amors, like I mentioned before, didn't helped in this case.

This happened to me too! I fell out of the map and the game ended, losing my stuff I got from that game, and the rune I was in the middle of getting when it started.
I think this can happen when you press 1 or something, sometimes when I press 1 it gets rid of my weapons, and doesn't even do my ability thing, and just does nothing as if my hand was empty, at the same time it moves me downwards.
My 1 button is a healing ability.
In my opinion this bug it the worst so far because it can happen in any level at any time at any place.
The worst part about it is that it stops you being to interact with anything. Being chased by mobs? well dont worry because now you cant attack them. Just found the entrance to a secret level that you spent 40 mins looking for? well dont worry because now you cant travel through the entrance and have to restart. Half-way through a level and you need to activate a lever to progress? guess what, now you stuck there forever until you go back to camp and restart again. Need to pick up items? Ha Nope say goodbye to all of the loot.
I can deal with the walking as its just a minor annoyance but the fact that this makes the game unplayable and wastes time annoys me.
I hope this gets fixed soon.
I've heard that this might be related to the food reserves enchantment, can anyone confirm that?
Edit: Just saw the video above, it suggests that this is the case. Seems like this issue happens when you heal yourself while wearing armor with the Food Reserves enchantment.

This occurred for me on Highblock Halls when my armor does not have Food Reserves, though my friend's armor does. PC and restarting did not fix the issue
I have also had this bug happen to me. It seems to happen whenever I use a potion while having armor equipped that has food reserves. It causes me to always walk downwards whenever I hold the movement key (in this case left mouse button), though just normally clicking will allow me to move upwards towards where I click even if I have the bug. During this bug, you are unable to pick up any items/consumables. I'm not sure if this is how it is for everyone else, but every time I've had this bug I get "attached" to an object and am unable to move upwards past it. For example, I'll get "attached" to a zombie, and the game will force me to move downwards until the zombie is above me on the screen, and then I am able to move normally but am not able to move up past it, or it turns me around and walks be back towards it. Once the object I am "attached" to is dead, I am able to freely move as I want. I've also had an instance where I got "attached" to a friend I was playing with, where I could only move up when they did, and if they decided to walk downwards past me, it would force me to walk downwards as well, as I was no longer below them. Please let me know if any more info is needed.
@violine1101 I have also experienced this glitch but it was when my friend and I both had surprise gift on our armor. This bug seems to occur for both food reserves and surprise gift, based on some of the other comments. Once this bug happens, when I left click to move (using mouse and keyboard), my character moves south regardless of where I tell them to go. I can also not pick up items while experiencing this bug. Another interesting addition is that, when I switch to my Xbox controller, the glitch stops, and I can move normally. Also, once my friend and I switched armor to something else that didn't use food reserves or surprise gift, the game worked fine and we didn't experience the bug again. The bug seems to be directly linked to those two enchantments, although it could also just be the number of items spawned in at a certain time frame. I would have to guess that whatever function/piece of code that handles the logic of spawning in items from these two enchantments is jacking up the pathing for mouse clicks in some way, considering the glitch doesn't affect Xbox controllers since there's no pathing involved with that control scheme.
(PC) This bug is driving me mad. But I will say I do NOT have "Food Reserves", but I do have "Surprise Gift". I only get this while using my Mouse/Keyboard. If I swap to using my PS4 controller I don't get the bug. Extremely annoying. Please fix!
As far as i know this bug occurs when;
I would personally say the first one occurs more often and consistent than the second one does, but I felt they both need to be addressed
I have found a temporary solution to this bug
Although, I am not sure if it will work for others as well.
When the bug happens, it usually does not let us control our character, and the name of pickups/consumables does not show up as it should. Instead of pressing down or click spamming the left click (move command), just click once, and the character should move to the location as usual. If the consumables' name does not pop up, try right clicking the consumables. I resolve with this issue like this and this method does not involve restarting your game or current run!
I can confirm the notion that this bug only appears to happen with Food Reserves; unsure about Surprise Gift as I have yet to touch that enchantment myself but on my current build, my armor has tier 3 Food Reserves and I begin getting the bug as soon as I use my potion and the food spawns. I don't even have to pick up any of the food before the bug is there and noticeably inhibiting movement and interactions. Interacting with the food on the ground appears to make the bug even worse. It is not level dependent, this bug seems to happen in any level, even in the Camp. Legitimately all it takes is the use of your potion while Food Reserves is active to proc the bug.
If I had to guess, based off of the inhibited movement and inhibited ability to interact with all objects (including consumables, enemies, and zone changers), the bug seems to mess with the raycast equivalent sent out by the cursor, or at least the interpretation of said raycast equivalent. That is if raycasts are even used for cursor input interpretation. Again, this was if i had to guess.
i am also having this issue. I haven't been able to figure out conditions exactly. that said, I feel that if there are large mobs (cow level is where it happens for me) and a mob drops a potion or food itemthat is when it goes haywire. first few times it seemed like grabbing item, which was not easy, solved it. last time i had issue it would not fix itself because item dropped into a hole. I tried jumping off cliff to respawn and I got trapped in same hole. I was technically still on map So I didn't die. I had character outline and could mouse over the potion but couldn't move. don't recall if I have surprise item enchantment.

I have the same problem as well. But i don't have any foodreserve or suprise gift enchant. One of my friends had the same problem as well without having any of those enchants either. we're both pc players and both times happened when we were playing online with other people. once i was just walking and it started acting up again.
This has been going on for a while I see, please try to patch it out soon it's really annoying and we have to reset a million times. It's been happening me consistently for 3 runs now. This is a feeling but maybe if you filter out the blocks that are not walkable to not be clickable either maybe it would fix part of the problem

Similar bug: holding down the mouse and then moving your mouse to the desktop will make you go down

Is this still an issue in the latest version? If yes, then what is the repro rate (how many times did it happen over the course of how many playthroughs)?

Holding the mouse and making your cursor go to the white part at the top of the screen makes you go down. Its so annoying and can only be bypassed with full screen. Is this what happens?
After just patching I'm having the same problem. I'll lose the mouse cursor completely and the character moves in a random direction. Clicking around repeatedly fixes the problem but it comes back a few seconds later.
Do you encounter this issue as a result of using Alt+Tab to switch to something else while playing Fullscreen? If yes, does switching to Windowed mode fix the issue?
