Text on signs turns to a weird font once I put an apostrophe.
iOS 11 introduced a new keyboard feature called "Smart Punctuation", this feature automatically converts typewriter quotation marks to "orthographically correct" quotation marks. (right quotation mark, left quotation mark; U+201C, U+201D; U+2018, U+2019). The default Minecraft font currently does not support these quotation marks and therefore changes the font to Unicode font as soon as a quotation mark of that kind is entered into a input field.
As a workaround for this issue, you can disable the Smart Punctiation feature in the keyboard settings of your iOS device. (Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Smart Punctuation)
When I am typing a sign, and I write some text that for some reason needs an apostrophe, all the text on that line switches to a weird font.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Place a sign.
2. Write something on the sign.
3. Put an apostrophe after what you just wrote.
EDIT: Also works with quotation marks.

Could not reproduce in 1.21.20.21, but multiple instances of this issue can be found across the bug tracker. For example at MCPE-169722, MCPE-178118 or MCPE-28401. Can you confirm your font is set to Mojangles?

I’m going to add onto this so then I don’t create a duplicate post, but I have also been experiencing issues with text on signs and in the chat.
I use iOS (iPhone 6) and this issue has been persistent since 1.2 (Bedrock) for me. One of my friends who uses Android (Samsung Galaxy S6) also experiences similar issues when typing special characters, such as a hyphen, greater or less than signs, apostrophes, and slashes.
Thx for pointing those out, only noticed the apostrophes and the quotation marks.
Are you using a third party keyboard? Which language is your keyboard set to?
I'm not sure, and it's English.
I am using the normal keyboard, and turning off Smart Punctuation helped to fix the issue. Originally, I thought it was a problem with 1.2, but J guess not. Thanks.
Yeah, helped me too. Thx!
Does this still affect 1.2.10.2?
Still affects 1.2.16.3
Go into your settings, go to Keyboard Settings, and turn off Smart Punctuation and see if this problem still happens.
I never took this as a bug since it still made it legible just a lot uglier and more anoyyingto read. I have this exact same problem since I have an iPad Pro 12.9” on iOS 11.4. I am on 1.2.16 but noticed this long before. It is anoyying and now that I know it’s a bug I will for sure be dicussing this.
It seems there are many bugs with Minecraft supporting the iPad Pro’s keyboard. This one being my most hated. I really wish that they fixed these tiny bugs. It would make the game so much better on iPad.
Did you try turning off Smart Punctuation?
After turning off Smart Punctuation, the fonts go back into normal.
(iOS 11, Bedrock 1.5.3)
I cannot reproduce this in 1.9.0.5.
I have added two new images to the post using “quotations” and an apostrophe to show this bug still exists in 1.12.1 and hasn't been fixed. This happens on all text inputs in the game. I am on iPad Pro on iPadOS13
Still exists on 1.13.0.
Still exists on 1.13.1.
Still not supported in 1.14.0.
Still not supported in 1.14.1.
Still not supported in 1.14.20.
Still affects 1.14.60. That happens with a lot of symbols and accents. Example: when capitalized the an "A" with "~" (like this Ã) looks like that.
Also it's not just on signs. It´s on the chat too
this text is kinda cool, but if you wanna remove the weird text copy this "
Missing 1.16.0.

Recommended way for Mojang to fix:
When the unicodes from smart punctuation is detected, replace the text with the original. Or add more texts for smart punctuations to the "Minecraft" font.
not persistent with command blocks
I don’t know when it was fixed, but I can confirm it was fixed at some point as it no longer occurs as of 1.19.60.
Is this still a problem?
@[MCPE Helper] Aspergerian
This is still an issue. When you type a symbol into a world name, it still converts to the Unicode font.
It's fixed for signs, but not any where else. (please reopen this)
This issue is for signs only, there is no need to reopen the issue.
