[Fixed in 1.13] Smooth Stone not craftable through furnace
Update by [Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay Wells):
Repro Steps:
- Place cobblestone into a fuelled furnace (this gets smelted into Stone)
- Take the Stone from the furnace output, and try and smelt that again
Observed Results:
The stone obtained from step one cannot be smelted into smooth stone (because it has a damage value of 32767).
Expected Results:
The player should be able to smelt stone into smooth stone without issue.
Screenshots/Videos attached: Yes
Notes:
Original Description:
Using a furnace, Stone does not cook to Smooth Stone in this version.
I place Stone in the input slot of the furnace, and coal (or other fuel) in the fuel slot, with the result that the progress bar does not move.
I expected Smooth Stone to result from a smelting operation. But instead, no smelting occurs, and no fuel is expended.
I have attached an image that shows what happens when Stone is inserted into a furnace, along with valid fuel.
The Stone in question was obtained by smelting Cobblestone.
Oddly enough, while investigating this further, I found that Stone obtained through Silk Touch does not stack with Stone obtained through smelting Cobblestone!

This is because of MCPE-47907. Cobblestone smelted in a furnace gets a insanely high damage value. Honestly I would consider this a duplicate of MCPE-47907. Because of that I would type the extra info on that ticket to be safe. Have a great day! ![]()
This is because any object cooked/smelted in a furnace gets a high damage value see MCPE-47907 for a better explanation.
This seems like the same furnace issue as in MCPE-47907 (stone) and MCPE-48342 (coal).
Thank you for your report!

Any smelted or silk touched stone that was created in 1.12 cannot be traded to Stone Masons and does not stack with any stone created in 1.13.
In 1.12 stone produced through silk touch and smelting did not stack with each other ( MCPE-47907 MCPE-48421 MCPE-47684 ) this issue was fixed in 1.13.0, however it seemed to overlook the result that 1.12 stone neither be traded to villagers nor stack with post-1.13 stone. It does appear that 1.12 stone can still be crafted into other blocks and used at a stone cutter.
There is a workaround, although not practical for users with vast quantities of stone, place the 1.12 stone and then mine it with silk touch.
Thank you for your report!
We're tracking this issue in MCPE-47907, so this ticket is being resolved and linked as a duplicate.
That ticket has already been resolved as Fixed. The fix will arrive in the next version or is already included in the latest development version of the game, you can check the Fix Version/s field in that ticket to learn more.

I was not able to duplicate, did you get the stone from silk touch? Or did you smelt the cobblestone? More details like this is appreciated. Thank you for listening!
The Stone was smelted from Cobblestone blocks.
@Mega_Spud this seems to be a common theme with smokers, furnaces, and blast furnaces. If you check out
MCPE-47684you can see a similar issue. Just wanted to bring it to your attention!Android is work, but win10 is not work smelting stone to smooth stone
I was able to duplicate this issue on Xbox One on 2 separate worlds. It renders the blast furnace uncraftable.
According to
MCPE-48342coal is also affected by this furnace bug. This same bug is happening to be across all all seeds on Xbox.
Same problem on Win10
I'm having this issue as well on Xbox & Windows 10 on a Realm. I didn't realize it until my sorting system kept sending stone past my stone filter.
Issue happening on Nintendo Switch
"Oddly enough, while investigating this further, I found that Stone obtained through Silk Touch does not stack with Stone obtained through smelting Cobblestone!"
Does that mean Silk Touch stone can be smelted or does that still not work? It's such a pain not being able to get a blast furnace on my survival world.
Yes Jacob, you're correct. If you place the smelted blocks on the ground and mine them with silk touch, you'll get properly working stone. Then you'll be able to smelt it and craft the blast furnace.
Based on other tickets and comments, it seems that 1.12 full release is also affected, can anyone else confirm?
1.12.0 isn't affected.
Are you sure? naec4 even said that Nintendo Switch is affected. Also, I saw your comment on
MCPE-46812(which is basically the same issue, with the same cause) saying that 1.12.0 is affected.Yes, I tested it before making the comment.
I play on switch and I do not have this problem
Fixed in 1.13.0.4 beta, but I'm not sure if it fixes existing bugged blocks.
Tested today on Xbox One with 1.13.0.4 and new stone blocks worked as expected but existing bugged blocks would not smelt.
[Bedrock Win10 Single Player & BDS] Stone which is obtained with Silk Touch will not stack with cobble that was smelted into stone. Stone via Silk Touch is given a Damage value of 0, while cobble smelted into stone is given a Damage value of 32767. I didn't experience problems with smelting either into smooth stone, only stacking in inventory & chests. I did not make a separate ticket since it is possible the Damage value is causing the problems.
Stone blocks prior to 1.13 will be still affected, so we are tracking that as a separate ticket
