Tridents no longer stay centered in a block while using a EXP farm
Hi there! The newest release that came out on the 30th of October 2019 just caused a bug. I have an exp farm I use in my survival world. It's a zombie spawner with a water direction method to have them drop into a hole where a kill chamber would have a sticky piston moving a slab back and forth with a trident that was thrown into the slab. Normally I could throw a trident into the center of the slab and then turn the sticky piston on, and it would kill the zombies as I am afk. The Trident used to move around a bit but the tip would always stay centered in the slab where it was thrown, keeping the kill zone the same all the time. Now it walks and causes it to fall off the side of the slab, making it useless. I rearranged the design a bit to help, but it still happens. Also if I am one block away from the trident, I can pick it up through the wall. That never used to happen. I hope this gets fixed because it's really my only semi fast source of exp.
Thanks
Anthony.

I have discovered that the new honey blocks can fix this issue. It will have to 'bee' set up differently, but it can produce some 'sweet' results.
I know
Silent is right! You can't take trident killers from us. We have no other way to really afk farm exp, since we cant use the off hand like java can. Trident killers filled that void, and theyre the best thing that the bedrock technical community had. However, as of right now, all of our farms are completely broken. Fixing them using magma blocks or anything like that wouldnt allow us to make use of looting or get any exp at all out of farming mobs, so at that point it isnt even worth building the farms to begin with.
The technical bedrock community has so little going for it. Please, just let us keep our trident killers.
is duplicated by
Lay them out in a circle, one piston, 2 observers... One piston 2 observers until you comple the square/circle. Have your 3 planks as the floor and your hopper as well. Use a lever on the outside of one of the pistons to stop and start the mechanism. And just throw the trident into one of the blocks. Works all day long and never fails.

When I loaded the world, I saw a pillager captain spawn within minutes. It was the second set of pillagers that spawned. I didn't need to remove any add-ons.
I don't quite understand the kill chamber. I saw no trident, and it looked like an outdated 1x1 setup (see MCPE-54852). I wonder if the pillagers are suffocating in the wall rather than being killed by a trident, and that is why you aren't getting bad omen? Also the water seemed to be flowing the wrong way. You could just remove the water and let them fall into a 2x2 trident killer.
UPDATE: I went ahead and threw a trident in the chamber, switched to survival, and spawned a bunch of pillagers to test. The trident killer works fine! None are suffocating in the wall. However, the water is flowing the wrong way–the water source was placed directly under the spawn spot rather than in the space diagonally behind it. That prevents a lot of the pillagers from every falling into the kill spot.

This is a serious bug that breaks a number of trident killer designs. Especially problematic is the previously unbreaking design where you could throw tridents on stationary blocks in front of pistons and never have to rethrow them. Please fix this with a patch fix ASAP as it has a serious impact on game play and existing mob/XP farms.
Yes this is a very serious thing that affects a huge amount of the community. There is no substitute to trident killers on bedrock edition!
To explain this bug in simpler terms:
Tridents that are thrown on the ground, can get random bits of momentum when they hit a mob. That momentum adds up over time, resulting in the tridents moving around very frequently, and breaking builds.
Trident killers do still work, however, they are not reliable and break very quickly after killing a couple of mobs.
yeah it can really mess xp farms
Please fix this bug. xp farms with trident killers dont work anymore after a couple minutes. I spent days on a witch Farm and and decorated it and now all that time for a trident killer not to work now I have to let them die from fall damage and get like 1/4 the loot. Not satisfied
Ive spent months building a mob farm on bedrock with a full perimeter and my farm is completely broken by this bug is completely unusable. My tridents keep falling off my tridents killers due to random bits of momentum when they hit mobs.
Can also confirm this bug on the iOS mobile platform.
But this bug also gives way for the devs to notice the “exploitive behaviour” that Tridents have on Bedrock Edition compared to any other Edition for the sake of parity. Automated trident killers as it is named are exploitive in a way similar to the use of AFK fish farms for example, allowing players to “afk” and receive loot + XP that can be increased by the looting enchantment since hovering the sword over the trident acknowledges the player seemingly hitting the mobs when they’re not. Whilst “trident killers” are a helpful resource and “feature” on the Bedrock Edition, it be nice if tridents performed same functions & behaviour as other Editions, or allowing the devs to make considerations on this Bedrock exclusive behaviour.
Are you able to include an example of the setup that has stopped working since 1.13.0?

This is essentially the same farm i am using.
I seriously don't even want to log into my Bedrock worlds anymore because all the projects I was working on where utilizing this mechanic.
At least if we can't have this, can we have sweeping edge?
I can confirm I am experiencing the same issue on 1.13.0 for iOS.
While this may be viewed as an "exploit" its currently the only thing giving us slight parity to java when it comes to being able to automatically farm mobs. Java has sweeping edge, the off hand for eating food so you don't die, along with various other mechanics used to AFK farm mobs. There is nothing like that on bedrock edition, except trident killers.
If the offhand, and sweeping edge were to be added to bedrock edition, than trident killers would not be as necessary as they currently are.
Specifically removing the ability to farm mobs, which aids players in everyday gameplay, while so many other bugs that negatively affect them persist, probably isn't a good idea either :/
Can confirm. I would guess devs likely did this on purpose to put an end to auto trident killers because frankly they’re a huge exploit. Yet, Java was never intended to be able to build above the nether ceiling and look what kinds of farms people have made up there. Would it be an ok decision to put an end to that too? I am sure the devs are fully aware of that ability as well. Same with quasi connectivity in redstone.
Guys, If you place a piece of carpet connected to a sticky piston and trow tridents on it, it should work as a trident killer as this one still works for my skeleton farm. I know it's not much, but I should do for now
Does this work for anyone else?
I can confirm this does not work on my guardian farm. I am currently playing on realm on Xbox
It worked for me only for a short time. Say like 40-50 kills. By then they drift far enough away that they no longer get moved by the carpets.
This is real and really sucks! Needs to get fixed immediately!
To those saying use carpets it will probably still break, it’s not the slab or carpet’s fault it is the weird energy formed when mobs hit the tridents making it fly after x amount of kills.
Mojang please fix! It’s the only good thing on Bedrock and the only type of AFK (no auto clicker) exp killer!!!
Not sure if this has been said, but it seems that it's mob collisions that have all, or the biggest effect with the trident, the more mobs you flush through the killer, the more dislodged the trident become. I have seen dozens of attempted fixes to this, nothing works as good as the old killers, that will kill fast enough, all mob types, without losing trident and having mobs ghost through blocks.
If you are testing this on your end, let it run for 10-15 minutes while actively killing mobs. It'll break.
It been running for the last hour with 2 mob spawners and even stressed it with a dispenser full of zombie eggs...(almost lagged out my game by not picking up exp oops) All the tridents stayed on the hopper platform because nothing sticks to terracotta blocks and those blocks keep the tridents from getting off the platform. When the tridents get pushed around by the piston platform. It will push the platform into the terracotta wall which re-centers the tridents on the platform.
I’m not saying they shouldn’t fix the tridents. I’m just saying this method works until they patch it. The simple trident killer is easy to make and this method is little harder to make than the original trident killer. This trident killer may even use more game performance since it’s moving 12 blocks instead of 2-4 blocks like the old trident killer. It’s not better than the original trident killer but it will work until they patch the game.
Edit: If you want to see it in person you more than welcome to join my creative world where I test my RedStone. My gamer tag on Xbox is “ShinyMooTank”
This update killed my realm. Between the rollback bug, nether portal bug, and the trident killer, there’s no point in playing until they are fixed. I don’t want to build or fight the ender dragon because it might not save. I shouldn’t be charged until it’s fixed.
Its ruined most of my farms
This really needs to be fixed, it broke many farms in (I think) every player's world. It's super annoying and slightly infuriating though
Darn it. I just upgraded my raid farm to find out that the trident killer in this farm no longer works also. It's mildly infuriating. I tried the slime trident killer someone made in my redstone test world and that didn't work because some of the mobs were clipping through. I know the answer is likely no, but has anyone found a temporary fix to a raid farm kill chamber? The mine carts don't stay in the leaves anymore.
We Want a creeper farm
@silentwisperer Another reason that Bedrock has no substitute for trident killers is that the AFK mob farms on Java require an auto-clicker. This would not work on mobile devices (assuming you are using touch controls) which comprise a large portion of the Bedrock players.
This still affects 1.13.1. I am playing ob xbox one and sometimes when standing afk on a trident killer I pick up some tridents through a wall. I think that's because the tridents are able to glitch into blocks when using a trident killer.
still affects 1.13.2
Affects 1.13.3 too
What if they intend to keep it like that...??
This needs to be fixed.
If not, then release a sweeping edge enchant in the next update cause my extremely large industrial farms are suffering.
I just built a fat farm not knowing that the trident killers were broken in a recent patch, which totally sucks cause I was really wanting to start using the trident killer to kill mobs.
Still broken in 1.14.0
This bug is still present in 1.15.0
You mean 1.14.0. 1.15.0 was the bee update for Java.
Yes, I mean the Bedrock Bee update
@Austin Pelt I made a killer like yours with glazed terra-cotta but the trident fell down through the hopper and slipped into the piston arm after a while. I used honey blocks instead of slime though—is it perhaps the slime blocks bouncing the tridents upward when they fall that keeps it working?

MCPE-55525as a duplicate.Anyone think MCPE-60895 could be related and shed light on this bug?
Edit: thinking about that bug report and the comment by @bugsbuhdbugs above about picking up tridents through walls (which I agree seems to happen more readily now), I do wonder if this bug is being caused by a change in the trident’s hitbox. It seems the hitbox is larger and more solid than it should be/used to be.
Sadly this issue is resolved as works as intended which means they might never fix this issue. But here is a video for a trident killer for the newer versions. https://youtu.be/kME3fYqydbI
It is really disappointing that no one from Mojang has ever acknowledged this change or given a reason for it. That just erodes goodwill with the player base.
Why is the "relates to" issue a java bug? This doesn't really have anything to do with java edition.
Also, its kind of sad that the issue is marked as "works as intended", since this is legitimately one of the best things bedrock as going for it. Removing/breaking features the community actively loves and cares about, and that have no real impact on the wider game, isn't that nice :/
@Reid You're talking like trident killers have been removed. One specific design is gone but they still work. Its just old tutorials that need to be updated.
Edit: It sounded more direct than I meant it to
@Silentwisperer While you can't push slabs or carpet with tridents on them, you can push tridents directly. I attached a screenshot of a working trident killer (tested using a repeating command block that constantly spawns zombies). The blocks in front are bottom slabs that you stand on. The rest is an observer clock that powers the pistons.
Edit: now that I understand the bug tracking process better, re-writing this comment to more prosaic.
While trident killers can be redesigned to get around this bug, it is not clear right now whether the devs intend for trident killers to continue working or whether they will make further changes to disable them. There are bug reports open that describe the ability of tridents to hit more than 1 mob as a bug (
MCPE-60933andMCPE-46369). If the devs decide to "fix" this mechanic based on these reports, there will be no more trident killers at all. The more recent of these reports is based on the same Java report linked as "related" to the present bug. In that report Jeb states that tridents hitting more than 1 mob is not intended behavior. I draw attention to these facts here because I want those of you who voted and commented on this ticket to be included in what may be an ongoing process of evaluating trident mechanics with respect to and Bedrock-Java parity.Cant help but feel like I've been slapped in the face along with the other 222 people who up voted this issue. The real issue to me is that previously it was possible to build a trident killer with a gap in the kill chamber to allow xp orbs to be transported by water stream. In the case of multi spawners it was a great way to mend gear quickly. I've tried everything I can think of to re-engineer this behavior using the new mechanics to no avail. Mojang seems to have broken the cardinal rule which the community has voiced loud and clear. "Changing features is fine, but don't take them away." If QC or 1 tick block dropping were taken away from the Java community. The loudest voices and supporters of Mojang would be enraged and I know something would be done about it. Why is Bedrock brushed to the side when it's the platform that the majority of people play on? If this is really, a works as intended mechanic someone needs to explain to us why this is "better" than what we had previously. Are trident physics required to be this way to allow drowned despawning? I doubt it, but if something like that is the case I think we'd be much more likely to accept the change.
