Dropped item disappear in Creative
What I expected to happen was...:
Pressing q while hovering over my hot bar inventory stack would throw one item out onto the game field regardless of the selected inventory page.
What actually happened was...:
Stack inventory count was decreased, even to zero, but no objects were created in the actual game.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. In Creative mode, have some items in your hot bar.
2. Make sure you are on any inventory page except 'Survival Inventory' or 'Search'.
3. Hover your mouse over the items in your hot bar and press q.
4. Notice that the item count in your hot bar decreases, but no items fly from you into the world around you.
Interestingly, you can hold down q and quickly make all your items disappear into nothing. I don't remember if holding down q was an option previously, but I do like it as a feature. I just wish the items actually were tossed out appropriately.

Q in Creative Mode brokenDropped item disappear in Creative
relates to
Confirmed for 14w32d. This also works
- Go into Creative Mode
- Give yourself 1 item
- Press E and view Survival Inventory
- Press Q on the item
- It drops, but when you pick it up, you always get double
This may be related to MC-23039
Duplicate of MC-23039.
When a creative mode player is in any creative tab other than Survival Inventory, and drops an entire item stack from their hotbar all at once (using either ctrl + q for >=1 stack items, or q for single stack items), the items will be entirely deleted (not just invisible).
Steps to Reproduce:
- In creative mode, open your inventory
- Go to any tab other than Survival Inventory
(note: Search Items will not work because of the search bar) - Do one of the following:
- Grab a singular item, and drop it from your hotbar using q
- Grab a multi-stack item, and drop it from your hotbar using ctrl + q
Observed Behavior:
The hand animation plays, but the item is deleted entirely.
Expected Result:
The item would drop, just like it does when dropped from the Survival Inventory tab.

Old Description:
The bug
Dropping a single item stack from the Creative hotbar by hovering over the item stack in any Creative menu other than the "Surival Inventory" one and pressing the drop key (Q) only deletes the item stack, but does not drop it.This is closely related to
MC-23039where no item would drop regardless of the stack size.
But it is not related toMC-116618since that happens for any stack sizes and the cause for it is understood and described in that report.Video: https://youtu.be/f4ccl-qkLJI
How to reproduce
- Put any single item in your Creative hotbar
- Open any inventory tab except "Search Items" and "Survival Inventory"
- Hover over the item in the hotbar and press Q (drop item key)
The item is deleted
To clarify, there was some confusion about similar bugs regarding items dropped in Creative mode being deleted. But it appears Tom Udding's report MC-116618 is different than this (and MC-23039 which it duplicates) since that has been fixed in 16w50a.
Additionally MC-170863 is a separate bug which always consistently happens for an item stack of size 1, regardless of how many items you have thrown already. So it has nothing to do with the drop threshold described in MC-116618.
When it says "single item stacks", it is referring to single items
. If you read MC-175095, which was resolved as a duplicate of MC-170863, you will see it describes your issue.
It seems MC-23039 and MC-170863 were mis-linked if I am not mistaken, relates to instead of clones / cloned by.
Edit: Actually, no, because MC-23039 referred to stacks of any size, and MC-170863 is referring to single items only, which is the reason for the confusion.

MC-5415Confirmed for:
Confirmed for 1.8. Also if you press Q several times (in non search or survival inventory) and then press Q in the survival inventory and pick it up, you will get 2 items back for each item dropped in the survival inventory (regardless of type).
Confirmed for 1.8.1 and 1.8.2-pre1. Your hand moves up and down (like when you normally throw items), but the items simply get deleted instead of thrown out.
still present in 1.9
Attempting to drop an item when in creative will result in that "dropped" item being dropped back into the unlimited items which I think is actually normal because when you take an item from the creative inventory and try to drop it in said inventory, it does delete the item anyway. To drop an item to the ground from the creative inventory you would have to click on your inventory and ctrl+q but there is a bug where if you do this the items double here
MC-5415. As far as the item not showing up on the ground, i think this is actually not really a bug. But perhaps as qmagnet suggested, these two tickets might actually be related in some way?Confirmed for:
* 1.10-pre1
* 1.10-pre2
