Some particles have very thin, vertical lines that flash in and out around the particles
The particle atlas can slightly leak causing particle textures to be incorrect, having a thin line of the neighbouring texture.
In older versions of Minecraft this apparently affected campfire smoke, without need for resourcepacks.
It can be triggered in modern versions still with resource packs.
Note: The lines aren't caused by the resource pack, as the rsp doesn't change water particles. The rsp simply triggers the atlas leak which is a vanilla problem.
Steps to reproduce
- Load this rsp sus.zip
- This rsp only contains custom textures for explosion and enchanting table particles
- Place water in a hole with soulsand in it
- Observe the water surface as you bob up and down in the water
Minecraft 2024.11.29 - 21.43.17.02.mp4
Observed results
- White lines appear on your screen
- You can verify it's indeed a problem with particles by setting particles to minimal.
Expected results
- Particle textures wouldn't be broken

Created Issue:
Campfire smoke particles have very thin, vertical lines that flash in and out around the particles.
Simply set down a campfire and watch the smoke rise up. You should start to see glitchy lines quickly appearing and disappearing from the campfire smoke. It is very fleeting and actually next to the smoke. This also happens with hay under the campfire, so I think it is just a bug with whatever sprite or particle was made for the campfire. (but what do I know)
p.s. I am sorry I didn't post a screenshot with this but there are two reasons for it; one is that it is very hard to get a screenshot of something fading so quickly in and out of the game, and two is that even when I did I could not find the screenshot in my files. You should be able to see it for yourself once you set down a campfire though.
Environment
This happens in any biome, this is also on realms so the iMac OS shouldn't be the issue. (I would think)

If you look closely at the ominous_spawning particles, you can sometimes see what looks like a pattern of vertical lines.

Discovered while testing MC-149630. May relate to MC-139351.
The bug
If a layer of campfires generates as a layer in a superflat world, they will not produce smoke particles unless interacted with manually in certain ways.
How to reproduce
minecraft:bedrock,2*minecraft:hay_block,minecraft:campfire;minecraft:plains
- Observe
Expected results
Plenty of smoke.
Actual results
No smoke, until you right click on one, or look at one in Spectator mode.
Would MC-149630 describe your issue?
In this case please add my reproduction steps to MC-149630 considering that issue doesn't have reproduction steps, and others have had trouble reproducting it.
Anyways MC-149630 isn't triaged and is an old issue. Leaving this open would greatly increase the chances of it getting fixed, considering the old report is unlikely to ever get triaged.

Hmm, I can't personally reproduce. But sounds plausible. A video would be helpful if anyone else is experiencing this.
Also cannot reproduce. Can you please provide a video of the bug?
I have come across this bug in 1.15-pre6. I attached a few screen captures and a video.
Reopening due to
MC-167762andMC-153295also confirming it.Can confirm in 20w48a.
Can this still be reproduced in 21w10a or later?
I can't say I can reproduce this at all. Can someone who can reproduce this give hardware information?
Requesting ownership. Reporter inactive for 5 years. Also this report lacks proper summary and reproduction steps so I'd like to add them.
