Performance/Frame rate gone down to below 30fps in v1.9.0 (Switch)
I downloaded the 1.9.0 Update yesterday on my Nintendo Switch and once i entered my World i got multiple issues with Performance and framerate, Frames went down to an unlocked 30fps, World took over 2 minutes to load up and UI crafting/inventory menu cursor stuttering while moving it around, also whenever i press Pause the game freezes and soon after crashes the game, it seems that after every Update the Performance gets slower and worse for Nintendo Switch, if I’m wrong then its an issue within this particular Update. The video i left below may not look like the framerate is below 30fps but it’s worse in-game. Please fix this ASAP because its become unplayable at this point. (I've left a 2nd video showing the freezing bug if it helps)

These performance issues were found to have two different causes. The first and more severe bug affected all Switch players. It was fixed in 1.10.0 and performance was greatly improved.
The second bug mainly affects games where the Multiplayer Game setting is enabled. Its most prominent symptoms seem to be pauses of several seconds when the game is autosaving, but there can also be brief delays at any time. During these times, delays may be observed when breaking blocks, opening chests, anvils, and other UI panels, and perhaps some other actions. This bug is difficult to fix so it will take a bit longer, but a team of developers is and has been working diligently on it.
Workaround: Users are reporting that the following workaround can temporarily restore your console to normal or near-normal performance for new worlds, at the expense of temporarily (until there's a fix) making your current worlds unavailable for play. I'm unable to verify this myself since I don't have access to a Switch, so use discretion when deciding whether to try this method.
- Backup your game data to the cloud using Switch online service.
- In the Data Management Settings, delete save data for the game.
- Uninstall the game from your console entirely. (Don't worry, your worlds will be saved.)
- Re-download the game from the Nintendo eShop. Do not restore your cloud backup.
- Turn off "Automatic back up save data" by clicking + on game, then "Save data cloud" and click your user. (Turning this off won't cause your cloud-saved worlds to be lost.)
Once all these bugs/issues are fixed, you'll be able to restore your cloud data and play on your worlds again.

I do agree with you 100% even if it came off a little harsh, when it comes to a Game breaking bug like this one and others its not really dealt with or fixed by the Minecraft developers, mostly little bugs that are bearly noticed or reported, but something as bad as this is just unacceptable, I’m not giving any criticism whatsoever to Mojang but just the honest opinion from myself. This is unacceptable as this point with everything you (@Alexander D) has mentioned, it better be fixed because with this many people having this exact issue its safe to say that every Switch player is having the same issue, nothing on the players end at this point, no difference with render distance/graphics etc. a simple hotfix to fix all these problems is needed but atm it all depends on the Minecraft team caring for the Nintendo Switch community. Not sure how it came through certification either....

For anyone here thinking that its Maps in item frames causing the performance issues well its not, Ive tested it multiple times with and without maps in item frames and the performance is still very very bad including the fps. Once again this is nothing on the Players end at this point and requires a Hotfix asap because its unplayable at this point, these problems won’t be dropped by saying “its a problem with your settings or maps in item frames in your world” its a All around problem for Switch Players, now its up to the Developers wether they’ll fix it or leave it like this which is something I strongly decline.

I was going to try that but in April there was bug where Minecraft stopped supporting Switch cloud save but Helen said it was a bug, so I'm not sure if that got fixed so I can restore my data after deleting it.

I downloaded the 1.9.0 Update yesterday on my Nintendo Switch and once i entered my World i got multiple issues with Performance and framerate, Frames went down to an unlocked 30fps, World took over 2 minutes to load up and UI crafting/inventory menu cursor stuttering while moving it around, also whenever i press Pause the game freezes and soon after crashes the game, it seems that after every Update the Performance gets slower and worse for Nintendo Switch, if I’m wrong then its an issue within this particular Update. The video i left below may not look like the framerate is below 30fps but it’s worse in-game. Please fix this ASAP because its become unplayable at this point. (I've left a 2nd video showing the freezing bug if it helps)

This bug is difficult to fix so it will take a bit longer, but a team of developers is and has been working diligently on it.
Workaround: Users are reporting that the following workaround can temporarily restore your console to normal or near-normal performance for new worlds, at the expense of temporarily (until there's a fix) making your current worlds unavailable for play. I'm unable to verify this myself
(since I don't have access to a Switch), so use discretion when decidingto follow this procedure.

The game just feels like brand new, smooth 60fps like William said, fast menu clicks and loading also I'm able to play with the high res BDcraft resource packs aswell. it's just like when I first downloaded the game when it released last year. only sacrifice for now is playing on our Worlds but I'm fine with that while we wait for a fix.

Just read over the 1.10 patch notes that released today and I couldn't find MCPE-41479. So it looks like the Big performance issues are not fixed in 1.10 and I'm very frustrated right now. Switch will be unplayable for a long time unless a hotfix is released very soon. I'm lost and very confused....Im not sure how to add 1.10 into the effected version on this bug report but I will.

Something's seriously wrong with the autosave logic. I expect it to maybe save once every 3-5 minutes. Instead, the game starts autosaving within 10-20 seconds of starting a session. Then, for good measure, it autosaves again 10-20 seconds after finishing that. I spend more time with the save icon on the screen without.
This exacerbates issues like MCPE-41479 because the game performs poorly while autosaving. Unfortunately since the game is always auto-saving that means the game is almost always performing poorly.
Maybe slow your roll and auto-save every few minutes, instead of aggressively autosaving the moment a block updates since the last auto-save.

having the same problems here, frame rate just got awful. Game is unplayable.
Confirmed. World that was working fine yesterday on my Switch is unplayable today after 1.9 update. I tried lowering render distance, disabling anti-aliasing etc, but framerate is still very low.
I'm having the same issue. At first, I thought it was because my base was located in a dense forest and the fancy leaves were lowering my framerate. I turned off fancy leaves and not much changed. I doubt any video settings i change would fix it either and I don't really want to lower video settings on a console game.
I can confirm that the frame rate took a nosedive (which took me by surprise). Issue persists no matter what settings I've adjusted.
How did this get past testing? lol
Same here. And the weird thing is, the same area was perfectly fine before the update. I am really sad how the game is getting worse after every new update that comes out.

For anyone experiencing this issue, there may be a link between low frame rate/ lag and maps in item frames. Removing any maps from item frames may help improve any lag issues (as a temporary workaround while we investigate the bug).

I also have this problem on my switch and i do some testing. FPS problems occur on the new world randomly, i can't find nothing linked to this. In further testing i noticed switching map to experimental gameplay make game even worse (with this mode you can see fps drop when destroying blocks).
I have survival world (without experimental) created on 1.8. After 1.9 update i also noticed fps problems here. I dont have any maps in item frames or familiar block. I noticed massive FPS drops in village near my base - i think its linked to broken villagers AI (gathering in one spot, runing on roofs and other anomalies).
Thats all additonal information - all tested on switch.

I’ve tested everything and removed all item frames/paintings/entities etc and framerate is still horrible, this is nothing on the Players end anymore. Switch players have been told before in the past to lower graphics and remove things that lag even tho it wasn’t actually the problem for ages. Every report here players are having the same issues and it’s unplayable. If a fix is being worked on then we appreciate it.
As a note. I've noticed a big difference with a save file being above maybe 60 MB compared to a brand new game.
I also have this same issue ever since I updated to 1.9 on the switch. My world isn’t even that big (17mb) but ever since the update happened the area around my base has horrible lag.
My world is only 13.8MB and it has no maps placed in item frames. I don't think either world size or maps are the cause of this.

Ali Djeffal - There may be several issues at play here, and maps in item frames is just one of the confirmed issues that we are looking into, along with the more general problem tracked here, too. Any extra information which players have found that may be a trigger for the lag issue might be useful in pinpointing where the problem lies.

Idk what else to test then, I’ve tested Maps on item frames and thats not the issue, I’m not understanding why its always the User that has to find this information which literally be anything, it could be the texture of Oak wood, it could be the colour of the Water, like I don’t get where to start here? I’ve removed ALL entities in my world including paintings and item frames/armour stands etc.

I'm also experiencing extreme lag and crashes when the game attempts to auto-save. The game file is roughly 60MB, running no texture packs and appears to be much worse when playing co-op. This severely impacts the play-ability of the game as it rolls back the server to the last auto save that didn't crash and interacts with other known bugs that appear on crashing e.g. De-spawning mobs cross chunks like horses with saddles/name tags etc.
No where in the game are there any maps in item frames etc as suggested as a work around. It seemed to be worse when myself and my co-op partner were far apart on the map, however, we tried to combat this by constantly staying within 20 blocks of each other and the same issue occurred on more than one occasion.
My world crashes alot too ever since 1.9 and I have a world of 128 MB in survival mode. The game freezes and had to restart the game several times. Every time, my character dies and lost a lot of good stuff and can't recover the dropped items because of the game keep freezing up every few minutes. I have been more exploring than anything else.
I know that if I use the Switch in handheld/tabletop mode, the FPS/stuttering/hitching problem is much less so. (Could be because of the resolution difference between docked and handheld, but I don't know for sure.) I didn't test it extensively, however.
I'm absolutely baffled as to why this is occuring because there's really nothing different visually about the game other than the added mobs and features.

The main world where this is kicking my butt I spend most of my time in a Sunflower Field biome that does happen to be near a village. If I'm in a corner or my face is pushed up against a wall it seems to get a little better. For a while I was suspicious maybe there were too many sunflowers, but as this happens far enough away those chunks are unloaded I'm not sure that's the case.
Menus also seem to be a villain: 80% of my crashes happen either when I'm opening a chest or trying to save the game. I can't confirm but I've felt like it happens most often if I start pushing buttons "too fast". As in, if I open the menu and within 800ms or so start jamming on the d-pad, that seems to freeze, whereas if I sit still and let Minecraft have 5 or 6 seconds to load things "seem" more stable. But I've been busy and haven't tested that extensively (also because I don't like when it freezes and I lose things.)

There actually is though, and it's quite literally what's been suggested over and over - rolling the update back. If the "problem is not an easy one and may take long to fix" do you know what's better than having your players play a laggy, unplayable version of the game for a month before you finally initiate a hotfix? Rolling the update back to the last playable version, so people can play the game for that month.
I'll add more information, but just like my last post, (and like how Mojang makes duplicate issue threads """"""""resolved"""""" instead of the more accurate term "duplicated", because it looks better) this will probably be hidden no matter how relevant any info I post because it's not 'nice enough'. But, regardless, here is a summary of the issues that I alone have experienced all in one single world. Here is some new, relevant information about the BUG only
-Horrific Lag, stuttering
-Toggling features of the world makes no difference (turning off clouds, draw distance, etc)
-Size of world makes no difference to lag (tested with main world (98mb) and three new worlds, one was explored (43mb savefile) and two newer fresh ones (15mb each)
-Playing in docked mode seems to be worse. Playing handheld mode still experienced all of the above, but maybe seemed to be less active? Unsure
-Game likes to freeze when things get messy. At night when it rains and you're in a village, game likes to stutter and lag even worse. Sleeping helps.
-Game likes to freeze specifically when it tries to autosave. Sitting still ""fixes"" this in that it is less likely to freeze, but can still occur. Game did freeze once when I was sitting still doing nothing, but it's less likely than when you are moving around.
-Game likes to freeze when opening chests or inventory during lag spikes.
-Issue with loading both chunks and chunk sections. Not only is it incredibly slow (I.E, walking or riding up to a completely invisible chunk, mobs appearing visible "floating" in a sea of white) it causes issues with the game. When the chunk finally loads strange issues can occur.
-LOSS OF MOBS! This is one I noticed last night and may or may not be related to the bug specifically. When experiencing horrible lag and a potential "crash", IE, frozen screen, I left my switch running for a few minutes. Sometimes the game stays frozen forever, sometimes after a few seconds to a few minutes, the game will unfreeze. When this happens, strange bugs can occur in the world such as unloading mobs in your area. I had three horses wearing diamond armor attached to leads in the backyard of my house. After this, I went back and one of the horses had completely despawned. Looked all over, even dug under the world to see if he "glitched" there. The funny thing is, his lead still was attached to the post. As in, the rope and lead itself was gone, but the texture of the "rope" being tied to the post was still there. Just that and nothing else, and 'releasing' the lead did nothing (and caused the lead to disappear completely. It did not drop). this is very common with my animals like Horses and Donkeys, so far.
That's most of the helpful information I can offer. Here is some info that I feel is more unreliable, but may be useful to see what other people have seen or experienced with them, to see if maybe some of these things have happened to them.
-Playing with a friend LOCALLY, had a completely normal time. I had warned them when they came over that our Minecraft plans for the weekend were FUBAR'd. However, we go into my world, he connects locally, and... My world acts fine? I mean, by no means has it reverted to 1.8.x levels of smoothness and visual clarity, but the stuttering is mostly gone and the lag is more of the usual type of lag that pops up every now and again. There was absolutely 0 game crashes.
-Playing with a friend ONLINE is hit or miss. Played with two friends and my game had horrific lag, and so did my other friends, but my third friend was mostly fine. When the third player logged out and it was just me and my other friend, our lag levels seemed to die down. So when we play together in a maximum of 2, it was generally okay. Again, playing with two players I didn't experience game crashes. Playing with three players, the issues were very close to crashing the game multiple times (screen freezes for more than 4, 5 seconds during autosaves, etc)
-The smoothest gameplay I can accomplish in minecraft right now is: playing by myself, locally (doubt it makes a difference but whatever) and mining in the ground. Game has never frozen when I've been mining. Game has frozen multiple times when going to and from the mine. But when I am down in a mine or small cave system, mining stuff or even strip mining, there tends to be 0 issues at all. Once you get back out of the mine, it can be hit or miss. Your "smooth" gameplay can stay for a bit or it can get laggy again. It all eventually comes back, but yeah. You'd think, based on this, that the issue is with the entities/particles on screen and you could work around the lag and crashes by toggling things like lighting and bobbing off, but like many others who have done this, I have done this as well and it makes no difference. For example, I had a mining sessions playing on a fully gimped, simple, everything turned off/lowest render distance settings. Mining was fine. Coming out of the mine and running, loading chunks fast, caused the lag to reappear. Game crashes occur just as often. Turning everything back on changed nothing. It didn't cause the lag to get notably worse, it still existed, and going back into the mine made the game run normal again.
I'll update this post rather than make a new one whenever I find new bugs or anything related to the lag, what makes it worse, what may cause it, etc.
This has not happen before in older versions and now crashes more often than before.
Same issue. Massive framerate drops. Also noticed that the fan on my switch never spins up past idle. The fan cranks up in Zelda:BotW and it used to in Minecraft when dock at least, but nothing since the last update.

I was having already having performance issues (Not FPS-related) at 1.8.X (and reported them to MCPE-40976).
Installing the 1.9 update only get this stuff worse and now the frame rate get horrible and made the game not enjoyable to play. Please fix as soon as possible.
I am having this issue also, playing the game (Switch edition) with all my good enchanted gear would result in the game freezing from up to 30's to 2min, during this time the audio of what I was doing can be heard (such as flying) but the game is completely frozen, after a period of time the game returns to running from that point as if nothing happened.
Stuttering and frame rate improve when I remove all enchanted amour and stored out of inventory, by only wearing an elytra and a few tools on hand I can manage to go longer periods without the game freezing, though still happens when I try things like trading on enter newly loaded chunks noticeably ocean areas.
Issues in single player, haven't played multiplayer.

Here's an angle to consider if you haven't:
I remember on 3DS it was really important to choose an SD card with certain speeds. Binding of Issac had a lot of freezing/crashing issues that turned out to be related to SD card speeds. It took them a long time to figure that out and fix it.
The freezes I see do seem to be related to when auto-save is happening, so I wonder if there isn't some kind of I/O contention? The SD card I bought for my Switch was cheap as hell because I needed an SD card more than I had money, so maybe it's just not fast. If you're testing with relatively good SD cards, maybe head out to Best Buy and look for a cheapo one.
As much i would agree with Owen, my crashing and freeze up are not related to a SD card as i do not have one on my Switch. However, it should not be overlooked to what Owen is suggesting.
About the SD card thing, I don't have one. Our family does have 3 Switches with Minecraft and they all have the same problem. One is mine without an SD card (I mostly buy physical), one has a physical copy of Minecraft and the other has it installed on an SD card (Its a 200GB SanDisk SD card. And yes we have checked that its genuine.) We have all had performance problems since the update before 1.9.0 but ever since 1.9.0 it’s gotten worse. Of course this isn’t to say that cheap SD could cause problems.
I want to confirm Alexander D's loss of mobs bug.
I have this happened to my small sheep farm, about 12 to 15 sheep before the update, but afterwards there were only 2 left over.
I did not mention this in my comment in the other so called 'resolved' thread because I thought lightning might have struck them because it rained the last time I played before the update.
Even though I couldn't recall any lightning struck nearby, I still went with it anyway.
So yes, it's definitely a bug.
Another bug that I have experienced is with tamed wolves.
When I make them sit, instead of just sitting and facing the direction that they were supposed to be facing, they would turn their whole body around to face whichever direction that you're at even though they're sitting.
They basically try to track where you are. This results in them sometimes glitching out: they would track you and glitch back to their original direction and glitch back to your direction over and over.
The wolves glitching only occur sometimes but they will always try face your direction while sitting.
Do we have an update or an ETA on a solution for this issue?
Chanuuw - Any additional bugs will need to be tracked in their own tickets. Loss of mobs is likely a result of bug
MCPE-21416- animals that are sat on a chunk boundary can despawn if the game crashes. (One workaround is to move animal pens so that they do not cross chunk boundaries - this is just a workaround though, and we are tracking the bug for a proper fix!)Shane Raven - We do not have an ETA for the bug fix, but we are working on a fix that will be included in a future update.

I'm seeing the issue - low framerate, frequent freezes and crashes - in single player.
Save data of Nintendo switch. If automatic online update data is turned off, a slight delay is reduced, but a fundamental delay has occurred. Many people have occurred especially when playing with two or more people.
All the issues for me reside as single player. I have not played as multiplayer.
Playing splitscreen on the switch got unplayable since the 1.9 patch. We play survival offline without mods or anything. The more we explore the world, the more we get problems. Huge fps drops, invisible blocks, long loading times are the main problems. We played several hours almost every day before 1.9. Now we play zero hours, because it's unplayable. If I play solo in the same world I have less problems, but still low fps.
I only play in a Realm, but almost always am the only player on board — from my Switch. However, the framerate will be smooth as ice for a while, then suddenly it will studder and drop to only about 6 fps and stay that way for about 20 seconds, then be mostly smooth again, then drop again — even if doing nothing but standing in the nether looking at an ender chest. (you can tell the fps drop when the little ender chest "snowflakes" begin to studder as they suck into it)
Adding local players on the Switch definitely makes it happen worse. Haven't noticed much difference when there are remote players logged in.
I was encountering this frame-rate drop when playing online from my Switch with one other player using an Xbox One. It appeared that it was auto-saving often and the frame-rate seemed to level out anytime it was not auto-saving. It seems like it was auto-saving quite a lot though. The auto-saving icon appeared on screen for about 60-70% of my playtime.
Slowdown (world interactions, not frame-rate) was also occasionally experienced by the Xbox One player since my Switch was hosting the world.
I probably won't be playing Minecraft on my Switch until this bug is fixed (yes, it's that bad), but I will happily jump on to gather information if needed.
Again, I'd like to suggest rolling the update back. I actually DID submit feedback at feedback.minecraft.net, and it was just a couple of lines asking the devs for more information, but it never got posted. Seriously, we are continually hearing that "we think it may be X, but right now have no ETA for update...". When I first posted, it was a week. Then two weeks. Now over a month. Now I clearly see this issue may persist for many months now. In fact, they may just roll out the full Pillage update without initiating any hotfix. You can clearly see this is one of, if not the main issue affecting the Nintendo Switch. I'm really trying hard to be nice and no insults and everything in my posts, but its so unbelievably frustrating. When the update first hit I thought "this is so bad, no way they'll let their entire Switch fanbase play like this for too long" and now it's been a month and...
It would be great to get some communication from Mojang, or even anyone, the devs, on a few things. One being - how long are we going to wait? Two - if rolling the update back isn't feasible, please just explain why and give us something to hold on to. You can clearly see from this thread alone that it's pretty much affecting everybody, and that most people are literally saying they aren't even going to play the game anymore.
Anyways, since Mega Spud seems to be taking the helms on this one, I wanted to ask you - going to have a big play session on the weekend (Friday, Saturday). Will be playing alone for a few hours, then my friend will come over to my house and we will be playing together (We can play both online and locally). On saturday, we can even invite other friends to join our world (one plays on switch, another plays on his laptop).
Is there anything you want us to test out? Some workarounds you guys have been testing? You know from my post all the issues I have and can test out and what we've already tried. If there is anything else you want me to write down after the weekend in an update, we can do that too. Let me know the types of things the devs find of particular use (I.E- feedback they find useful and feedback they don't find useful) and it can instruct me better to provide potential new feedback to the developer team.
We can test all sorts of things in different tiers. I play in docked mode on switch, friend plays in mobile mode. We can test multiplayer when its local, we can test it online with fellow switch users or even crossplay. I will still report back anything new or interesting I find out, but if there's anything that could enhance our (likely 24+ hour play LOL) time, let me know. I'd literally do anything that could help finally kill this/these horrible bug(s).
I’d also like to note that the issue is EVEN worse when playing on a realm. If i play on my realm I average (What feels like) 25 to 30 FPS with MAJOR FPS dips and lag spikes when ever it auto saves. Seriously the frame rate can seemingly get as low as like 4 frames when autosaving. And not to mention about 40% of the time the game will literally freeze up while auto saving and loading into a world, realm or server (Which it usually does and isn’t a big deal but with this update its now freezes upwards of like 2 or 3 minutes while joining a world.). I CANNOT believe that no one at Mojang seemingly hasn’t played the Switch version to see the problems for themselves! This absolutely unacceptable. I haven’t played the Switch version in a while just because of this.
This needs to be fixed. Lag spikes occur when the game autosvaes and it saves ALOT. And this isn’t some measly, 2 second lag spike, the game will literally FREEZE for a whole 10-12 seconds, leaving the player vulnerable to hostile mobs. The game will also dip to 30 frames for a couple of seconds as well. If you guys can fix a “op” afk fishing farm design in under a week, than I’m sure a hot fix could be release within the next couple of days. Or even roll back the update like Alexander D suggested because this is unacceptable.
Would like to add, this version is really buggy and glitchy. Not only does it freeze and crash EXTREMELY frequently, especially when saving or using chests, but I VERY frequently lose items. Like my entire inventory will just get wiped, and animals in my house will despawn (I lost a horse that had a saddle and golden armor). This happens to me CONSTANTLY, it's incredibly disheartening to lose HOURS of progress, it ruins the experience and fun and honestly makes me wish I could get a refund. Could've used that $30 for something that isn't completely broken.
I keep trying to give it another chance, like "hey maybe I can recover from this and go exploring and get back the items I lost" but every time I do it crashes and I lose everything again. I'm not going to be touching Minecraft until this is fixed, and I'm going to be warning everyone I can not to buy Minecraft on the Switch.
Since the 1.9 update, the game is getting unplayable. It started as quick fps drops. Then they became longer and longer. This would happen in single and local multiplayer. Then during local multiplayer the game started freezing. It was seldom and quick at first. Then within days it was happening almost everytime it would save, and lasting up to 10 minutes. It also now happens in single player. It definitely freezes more when the two players are further apart. The fps drop is only noticeable while mining. The freezing oçcurs as I said while saving, working menus, or just running into new chunk sections.

Last night, I had a sliver of hope. I dropped every graphic option I could down. I turned off all the fancy leaves/bubbles/lighting/particles. Turned off the sky and clouds rendering. I also dropped the render distance down to 5. I did still experience some fps lag while I was playing. But it only froze 1 time right after I died and re-spawned. I took a step and it froze for about 3 minutes. After that I just had a subtle lag issue. It was playable, but my 10 year old laptop runs it with better graphics with no issues.
I forgot to mention in my previous post, I did also notice that when I sprinted, the armor and hearts icon would blur, but if I walked they were normal. When I dropped all the graphics down last night, they were fine as well.
Here's my experience with the major performance issues: The lag isssues are intolerable. Frame drops happen very often, not like before. Even something as simple as breaking leaves can lag the game like crazy. And there were several occasions where I exit a world and the game froze. When I closed it, it gave me the "The game closed because an error occurred" message. Sometimes it also happens in-game for seemingly no reason. The chunks are also very sluggish at loading at times. Even at 11 chunks I can still get lag by punching leaves. I don't know precisely what is causing these issues, but I'm assuming the optimizations either didn't go well with the switch version or were overlooked.
Yeah it's getting worse, the only help/response we've gotten is from one Moderator (Mega_Spud) and not one developer of the Game, All I know is 1.10 can't release with these big issues with how the game is running on Switch, has to be delayed or something until a hotfix goes live which I'm hoping for. But so far it's been quite with no fix confirmation or ETA just testing by the Players. I still have hope that this is Actively being fixed but without any response from a Developer we won't know for sure.
I believe CornerHard (a developer for Bedrock) said this issue will be fixed in 1.10 on the Minecraft Discord.

What will end up in 1.10 won't be known for certain until the day they send it out to the stores for certification. Up until then it's in integration testing, and anything that fails in testing can be yanked out for a fix later, or the whole release could be postponed until it's fixed and retested from the beginning. If OcelotOnesie's information is accurate, they have a fix in the 1.10 Beta, so it's likely to be included in the release. But even Mojang can't promise it will be included until all the testing is done, at which time they'll send it to the stores, probably the same day.
@Auldrick when you said "it's in integration testing" did you mean the Performance issues or the actual 1.10 Update? I understand the rest of what you said.
Integration testing is where they test the finished product, the version they hope to send to the app stores. It contains all the changes and fixes they've selected for the new release.

The game lags consistently and from what I can tell it is some kind of problem with loading in assets. There are also bugs with invisible chunks (blocks are tangible but not visible) and it all seems to cause a chain reaction. Weird part is that if you remain in a confined area performance is fine, I have a storage room with lots of item frames and mobs nearby and it runs smoothly but once new chunks and assets need to be loaded in the game drops down to below the 30 fps and it's highly annoying.
It also happens when just exploring natural environments with no player builds at all. I also don't have anything going in on my spawn chunks so that can't be the source.
Really hoping for a fix because the Switch is certainly capable of running the game fine, especially since my laptop from 2012 runs it smoother.
Just read over the 1.10 patch notes that released today and I couldn't find
MCPE-41479. So it looks like the Big performance issues are not fixed in 1.10 and I'm very frustrated right now. Switch will be unplayable for a long time unless a hotfix is released very soon. I'm lost and very confused....Im not sure how to add 1.10 into the effected version on this bug report but I will.Solution for now. If you sign out of your Xbox Live account completely then (at lest for me) there is less crashing. However the frame rate is still a problem.

Some bugs on Switch were fixed in 1.10 that had only 5 - 10 votes and this one has 50. So I don't understand why nothing is being done.
Votes are an important consideration in getting a bug fixed, but they aren't the only one. If a developer has only a few minutes to spare, they may find and fix an easy bug that doesn't have as many votes. Performance issues, on the other hand, are seldom easy to fix. They require a lot of work, and that takes time. It's not true that "nothing is being done".
Please remember that the bug tracker is not a discussion forum. Comments here should be limited to providing additional information for the developers, and possible workarounds. We don't get status updates, so once we've passed an issue on to the developers, we can't answer questions about fix progress. Questions like that should be directed to Community Management, whom you can reach on the Minecraft Discord.
Just bought the game for Switch and I'm considering returning it because of these performance issues.
@Auldrick It's about time a decision is made: A hotfix or no fix. I think when an update is in certification only the added features are tested and not how the game runs. If it was like that then Switch would've failed Cert and the update would've been delayed. You can tell from this comment I'm really angry about this but as always I try to keep calm. Certification went really quickly as well so that could be proof. This report has 50 votes and wether it's gonna be hard to fix or not we need an ETA or confirmation wether it will be a hotfix or not. This is a big update with alot added and the more stuff added to the unplayable Switch version the lower the FPS and performance will get. This update has only made it worse don't you see? So it will be harder to fix now when it's decided, In the end the game doesn't belong to us and we can't tell the Team what to do.

@Auldrick And I appreciate your help alot, I'm not saying this is your fault because it isn't, you and Mega_Spud are the only help we've gotten and we appreciate that very much, if there's nothing more you can do then I understand, I was sitting here yelling about this which did not very much but it's because I have ran out of things to test with the game to help this. I was just trying to make a point to the Team by saying if you add more stuff into the game it will only get worse. But lastly thank you for the support because you actually cared..
Just an update on my experiences. Like I said I turned all effects down/off. Everything ran smooth for the most part beside the occasional frame drop. Since I did that, I was spending time in the Nether world or near my base camp in a wooded area. For the first time two days ago I had the game freeze on me. On the 17th, it froze twice while exploring a desert and again last night it froze while exploring a desert. This may just be coincidental but it seems worse in desert regions, it loads chunks slower to the point where I have to wait at the end of the chunk for the next section to load and as I mentioned it has froze on me there. I did not experience this in any other regions. I have not played yet today with the recent update but I'll post my findings when I do.
Auldrick, here is the problem.
I have been directed to multiple places. I know this isn't "the place" to air grievances. Fine. I've respectfully done so on twitter. I've done so on Discord. They refer me to here. If I tell them I can't do anything here, they just mute me. They don't take anyone seriously and find it annoying. I post about it on the other site that specifically is aimed at taking suggestions/comments for the game. They don't even give me the decency of approving the post for others to see the thread.
Here's the problem with what you said: yes, the devs may only have a specific amount of time. They fix little issues. But this is an issue that affects thousands of players. It has now been constant, unplayable, crashing, horrific lag for, as of right now, over a month. We've all been patient. We've been messaging discord mods. You guys here. Trying to talk to people on the other sites. Nothing. Ignored or told to wait.
How do you guys not see the optics of this? Anyone who purchases the game now will see how terrible it is and never play it? My friend got a refund from nintendo. I have never heard of Nintendo giving refunds for games like this. Only completely broken games. That is unbelievable to me.
Heres the issue. We've all been screaming for a hotfix, or to roll it back. If the fix will take over a month or even half a year? Who knows at this point. Players would rather play with LESS stuff but have a REAL experience, than be able to go "Wow, I made a campfire. Oops, I crashed for the 50th time. Teehee!"
Here's my own issue with your words. If the devs only have so much time, you think they would focus on a GAME BREAKING BUG that affects AN ENTIRE CONSOLE PLATFORM. What are we paying DOUBLE for? Why did Microsoft purchase Minecraft? You can't seriously, genuinely tell me with the influx of cash that somehow devs are stretched for time.
Nope, what's being signalled here is priorities, and Microsoft, Mojang, and others telling everyone on the Switch: Sorry. You are not a priority. I apologize to you mods. I understand you are volunteer moderators. This is NOT your fault and I do not blame you. But our frustrations are very real and we can't air them anywhere else. This is the most upvoted and pressing issue for the Nintendo Switch and Bedrock users, and now we're being told, after being told to wait for the next update, nothing is being done. This is akin to spending money on a game and not even being able to PLAY it for a month. Actually, that's exactly what it is.
There's no way this bug passed playtesting. It just didn't. People were aware of it and didn't care and it frustrates me. If Microsoft seriously can't fix this or roll it back in a month, we genuinely deserve either a full explanation from a developer WHY this is happening, or we deserve refunds. I don't want to go to Nintendo and go through all that... But I can't even PLAY this game. It's unbelievable and very striking how little is being communicated to the users who essentially support this game with our time and money.
Second comment: (You can append this to the first post if you want Mods, just wanted to be more clear). I noticed one issue with the game. Likely related to just the gamebreaking lag in general.
My game freezes often when the autosave happens. This isn't what I noticed. What is possibly new is that my game tends to stutter worse or flat out freezes when I tie multiple mobs to a lead. It happens almost every time. Leading like 3 or more dogs, cows, alpacas, whatever, will cause my game to freeze.
Obviously this is heavily related to my above post of bugs and issues I've noticed, but I have no idea what is or isn't helpful to devs, so I figured I'd mention this.
@Alexander D. Alot of what you said is true but Auldrick can't do anything about it or give more help so saying that here won't work, we need to get in contact with the developers which idk how to do unfortunately (unless on the Minecraft Discord) He has helped us enough but can't do anything else
Alexander D: I read your first comment carefully, for what that's worth, because you deserve to be heard. Sadly, as you're already aware that's all I can really do. It sounds as if you've been given the brushoff on Twitter and the runaround on Discord; I'm sorry about that. I'm not sure who you contacted; perhaps it was another volunteer, as many of the mods there are. Regardless, directing you back here was not the appropriate response, and I'll try to address that with them and the Community Managers. It's possible that the Discord mods are unaware of our limited ability to answer your concerns, so like you and so many other commenters they expect us to have the answers. (Hmm, perhaps I can do something helpful after all!)
Your follow up comment is entirely welcome, it's the reason we provide for comments! Although I don't know whether the devs will find it helpful either, for a serious unresolved problem like this, more information is better than less.
Ali Djeffal: A few of the developers check on Discord occasionally, but it's not likely you'd happen to catch one who knows anything about the status of this problem. Understand that if the developers had to respond to questions from millions of customers, some of them irate, they'd have no time for anything else. That's why customer interactions are the Community Managers' responsibility.
@Aukdrick I guess that makes sense but it would be nice if they were more open to Players issues so they can personally ask you questions about this (developers) I guess all we can do is wait or find something else to test, anything at this point. (Again we appreciate your help Auldrick)

And she gave me more news: You "have not" been using 1.10.0 on Switch yet, because Nintendo won't release it until 2 hours from now (10 PM PDT, 0500 GMT). And 1.10 does have performance improvements for the Switch in it, especially for singleplayer. Unfortunately, there is a second performance problem having to do with server sync that they're still working on, but at least this particular problem should be fixed.
@Auldrick didn't it release for Pacific time at 7pm? I have a friend in America who said he tested it and said it was worse, plus I didn't see the fix in the Update patch notes?
@Auldrick Follow up question: Did Helen say this fixed frame rate all together in single player or only 1/2 of it? (And my friend must have lied cause I don't think it's 7pm yet for Pacific time and I thought it was usually 2AM for Europe time or GMT?
I can only tell you what Helen told me, that Nintendo won't release it until 10 pm. Perhaps your friend was predisposed to expect it to be worse because it wasn't mentioned as fixed in the changelog.edit: I went back and checked, and it WAS 7PM she said (0200 GMT). I had mentally correct it to my time, EDT. Sorry for the confusion.About that, there's not always a clear relationship between reports here and fixes at Mojang. A report describes symptoms, but sometimes it turns out that there are multiple causes, and sometimes a particular bug may cause different symptoms on different platforms and devices. To the developers, the bugs are the real things they work on, not these reports, and when the relationship is complicated they may not always remember, or be able, to attribute a bug fix to the report or reports it fixes. So the changelogs don't necessarily mention bug reports by name even though they're fixed. That's something we on the bug tracker have to follow up on and make allowance for.
[Edited to add:] Also, in this particular case, two different performance bugs were identified and both of them were associated to this ticket. They fixed the one that affected both singleplayer and multiplayer, but they're still working on the server one (which should only affect multiplayer). Therefore, this ticket isn't considered fully fixed yet, and that's why it wasn't listed in the changelog. So please be careful about how much you infer from the changelog, versus what it actually says...or doesn't say.
Yeah, we have a memory usage fix for the Switch in 1.10. Try it out after the new version releases for Switch.

The server sync problem should only affect multiplayer, as I understand it. They've fixed singleplayer performance as much as they're aware of a problem with it, but there's always a possibility that squashing one bug will allow another bug hidden behind it to be revealed. So if you don't get satisfactory performance, feel free to report it. You could also leave a comment here, if it still seems like it's the same problem, but we might ask you to create a new report for it.

@Auldrick Yeah fixing 1 bug could cause another bug, I've got go now so this is my last reply for tonight, only thing I have left to say is thank you and everyone else for all the support and help. I have no clue what Server sync is but I'm not gonna ask but once that's fixed hopefully everything should be working the way it should.
@Aukdrick forgot to ask 1 little thing: is the server sync issue only new in 1.10 or was it in 1.9 aswell?
I actually edited a comment above about that a moment ago. This issue was found to be caused by 2 bugs. The server sync issue, which should only affect multiplayer, was the other one, the one they're still working on. The fact that it hasn't been fixed is why this report wasn't listed in the changelog.
Currently testing 1.10 on Switch because it released for my time and it's going really well! I want to do further testing tho so I recommend everyone else doing the same thing so we can know for sure what has been fixed or improved (for me personally my frames are back to normal for single player)
Hey Auldrick. Thanks for all your replies and the work you've done on behalf of the users. I know for many people, especially for me, volunteers and mods such as yourself often tend to be the first point of contact for the playerbase, so when we get someone who reaches out on our behalf such as yourself - it goes a long way. Don't want to ramble so that's all I say on that but thank you.
Feel like I shouldn't have ranted as hard as I did earlier, but seeing 1.10 finally come out and "seemingly" no fix for this report was frustrating. Obviously you've explained to us now a little bit about how the ticketing system works and why it wasn't initially shown in the changelog. My bad! Hearing that things should get better makes me really happy.
Anyways - can't wait to test out 1.10! I'll report in this thread (I feel a slight duty to, considering my earlier posts from a few week(s) ago pointed out a lot of problems) what I think got fixed over a quick 1 hour playthrough. And as you said, if there are any new problems, creating a new ticket is probably best. If gamebreaking lag is still a thing we can all discuss here again of course, but from the looks and sounds of it, Bedrock for the Switch is now running a lot smoother! I'm excited to play. Thanks to everyone for all the work finally resolving aspects of this bug! And thanks for taking our complaints in stride, Mojang moderator team members! Like I said before, it goes a long, long way!

I'l be updating this section as I go along. Not because I think everyone needs to read my thoughts, but just thought as a resolution to the thread would be nice. Loaded into the game - once everything loads, character moves smooth as butter again. Fantastic! In areas where you've loaded the chunks fully, movement and framerate is as smooth as ice. There is, not what I'd call 'stuttering', but perhaps a very small framerate drop when running and loading new chunks very fast. However, this has so far in 20 minutes of gameplay not caused any crashes, which is good. The chunks are loading noticeably faster than before.
Autosave function - that (separate ticket I think?) appears to be fixed! Game has autosaved for me many times and it has not slowed my game down or caused a crash.
Overall, gameplay seems improved on switch. Obviously it can be optimized, but this is very far from the unplayable state of 1.9.0. Very far away! Game is completely playable and I can't wait to dive in and play for 8+ hours now LOL. I will report back with a few things I am looking to test, however. Such as playing in an area with over 50 mobs (villagers, pigs, etc) when it rains (this often caused me horiffic lag spikes and framerate drops) and general gameplay when loading chunks fast on a horse and travel (exploring in 1.9.0 on Switch was untenable. Especially in the ocean. You might be waiting in, quite literally, a sea of nothingness for one minute before even the chunk you are on loads. Not an exaggeration. So far this appears to be fixed but would like to stress test the game a bit)
So happy right now. What was at least 70-80% of the issue is gone.
I just played about an hour on 1.10 and it feels waaaaaay better. I had a lag spike here and there if mucking with chests while auto save happened, but all in all it feels like I remember from 1.8. I hope this continues!

After testing it for about an hour framerate problems appear to be fixed.
Unfortunately slowdowns when game is autosaving are still there. It's back to how it behaved in version 1.8 with mined blocks not disappearing (allowing for x-ray glitch if you walk into such blocks)/placed blocks not appearing/chests, furnaces and inventory taking up to 15 seconds to open - this all happens during autosave (while save icon is displayed).
I'm not sure about freezing. I had a game freeze on me for about 10s while swimming in a river, but I haven't had time to do extensive test it.
I'm pretty sure all those problems involve interactions with the server. That part is still being worked on, so it's not surprising that you would notice these slowdowns. Mojang is working on it and have one of their best developers assigned to it, but it's a very tough problem and it might be a little while before there's a fix.
I can confirm after multiple testing sessions that the performance is as smooth as ever for me (I haven't tested multiplayer for worlds yet) However: I have been getting a stutter or frame drop to 0 for about 5 to 10 seconds every 5 minutes in Single player which might be happening because as you said fixing one bug could cause another, although I won't classify it as a bug unless other players have the same issue (plus 1.10 only released yesterday so I'll give it time) But as of right now the game is playable and I'm very happy with the work that's been done! Soon I will test multiplayer with my friend who had performance issues like everyone else in 1.9 but his should be fixed too.
Ali Djeffal: I expect the stutter you're describing happens during autosave. You could verify that by enabling Show Autosave in the Video settings. Note that if the Multiplayer Game setting is enabled (which it is by default), you are playing in multiplayer mode even while playing alone. It would be a good idea to disable the setting if you don't intend to play that world with other people. I'm not certain, but I think disabling it might reduce or eliminate the stutter.
@Auldrick that's good to know and I'll test that to see what happens.
@Auldrick Yeah your right about the game slowing down when Autosave triggers, blocks don't load in when placed or destroyed until Autosave ends and I get occasionally stutters for around 10 seconds each time
Yeah, I keep having this same issue as well! It's really annoying to deal with considering that Auto Save triggers nearly constantly on Bedrock.
@Wesley don't get too angry with it, things like this can be fixed it just needs to be looked into first and to make sure if other players have this issue aswell.
While I can say that 1.10 defently improves the switch performance there is still a problum when opening chest, your inventory, anvil etc. The game will freeze for a second or 2 and then start again. But other then that the game seems to work fine now.
Before commenting about delays when breaking blocks or opening UI panels, please see the update and workaround in the description above. We encourage you to contribute additional new information, but repeating what others have already said isn't really helpful. Thank you.
If it's a new issue, please create a new report. If it's an additional symptom or aspect of performance issues when autosaving/playing in multiplayer, or if you're not seeing major performance improvements after updating to 1.10, it should be commented here. If you're not sure, just use your best judgment...I won't bite.
I have info: when the game stutters in auto save it happens in featured servers aswell even tho you cant see the game autosaving, I tested multiple servers and the game freezes for around 10 seconds and then stops. It happens in single player already but I've found out its in online multiplayer aswell (if this wasn't known already)
Fps drops and game freezes definitely seem more prominent in 1.10
Travis Wilde: By "more prominent", do you mean that they stand out more now that performance is better at other times, or that performance has actually disimproved overall for you?
What I mean is that the game takes longer to recover from the Fps drops, lag spikes and game freezes. This is especially bad during auto saves and (from what it felt like to me) it seemed worse when I was playing the system handheld vs when I was playing it docked.
As an example, the game ran fine while I was at spawn working on a build (also Pick-Block did not seem to cause any issues with lag) and my wife was approx. 1000 blocks away working on digging a large hole(split screen). However we needed to stop and wait for the game during auto saves and if I was using the crafting grid she would be unable to see any progress on any mined blocks (she would have rows of blocks that were visually there but physically gone)

So I wasn't able to test with my friends because when they tried joining my world the game freezes as soon as they join and then the game freezes so the game kicks them from the world. This stuttering thing is affecting other things which I didn't expect so I might have to make a new report but don't want to move on from this report just yet.
Last night I played for about 5 minutes. On 1.9 I put all graphics and effects as low as they could go and it was running smoothish. With 1.10 I put all effects and graphics at default settings. In those 5 minutes (and no not an exaggeration) the game auto save twice, both times it froze for about 5 seconds. I just ran around my house and it stuttered about 6 times. The load time of the world was faster, but not by much. And it was stuttering even in the menu to start the game. Ill play more tonight and try multiplayer and report on that.
It looks like my comment was deleted by a mod, so I'm just gonna say this: 1.10 makes the switch version of the game unplayable. I experience constant freezing when the game autosaves. I tried turning the video settings all the way down and that didn't help one bit. I haven't tested online multiplayer yet, but oddly enough, local multiplayer makes the game somewhat player with less frequent freezing, but it still lag spikes here and there. Really hoping for a hot fix or an update roll back or, at the very least, some announcement/information from a Dev. I think the best thing to do would be to introduce the ability to disable autosaving like the 4j studios version of the game.
@Bryce I wouldn't say it's unplayable but yes the stuttering is a bit annoying at times and I can confirm it also happens on Online Multiplayer with Servers/realms etc I tested it multiple times. I don't think adding disable autosave would work because it happens in Servers where you can't see autosave or disable it, just a new problem for Switch that's all.
Maybe something’s wrong with my Switch because the game studders constantly. It freezes every few seconds. It’s strange because I just watched a video of ibxtoycat playing on Switch and I didn’t see any freezing on his version. I would love to talk to a mod about how I can fix this because I haven’t been able to try out the new features or enjoy the game at all because of the freezing.
Its a game problem because my friends have this issue aswell but for some people it's lucky for them that they don't freeze. I would wait until this server sync bug is fixed and if the game still stutters then a new report can be made.
Update from previous post. I played last night for a few hours in solo mode. It did stutter at every auto save and occasionally throughout. The biggest issue I ran into was opening chests. It would load a menu bar and take a good minute for the chest inventory to load. My wife joined me later on and the stuttering was definitely more noticeable but that was it. Overall, 1.10 seems to have fixed most of my issues from 1.9, where i had to take everything down to bare bones and play it with freezes and lags. Once the chest inventory gets fixed, ill be a happy camper.
I'm kind of rolling back my previous content. While seemingly singleplayer was improved in 1.10.0, glaring flaws shined through. While it has turned it from literally unplayable to "well, this is okay", lag is horrific when opening chests. Autosaving seems to be hit or miss for players as well, being an issue for some and not others. The buried lede here is multiplayer.
Doesn't matter if it is online or local multiplayer. The lag is atrocious. Unplayable in every meaning of the word. Below is a laundry list of issues encountered:
-Breaking a block, like above, but instead of the item dropping, occasionally you will get this issue where all the blocks simply reappear instead
NOTES: Turning down anti-aliasing does nothing. Doing different features does nothing. Playing local or online multiplayer changes nothing. All of this was tested with multiplayer with 2-3 people, all on the switch, one on PC. Glitch occurs on new worlds (smaller than a few MB's) and big worlds (150+ MB).
COMMENTS: Overall, multiplayer was literally better somehow on 1.9.0. I genuinely believe, because there is no other option or alternative to believe in, that this was obviously known during playtesting for 1.10 but the devs and team released it anyways. There is no way 1.10.0 got released. I'm sorry, but just because 'this is a hard bug to fix' doesn't cut it when we are paying a premium to play this game on the Switch compared to PC. Most, if not all of us who have this on the switch play it nearly exclusively for multiplayer. Why else buy a game that all of us have on every other platform, on the very newest console out there? This is a sad situation.
And honestly, you'd think a gamebreaking bug would have the devs go like "Well, we have to fix this FIRST and IMMEDIATELY'. Instead, being told "Well, sometimes we fix the little things because it's easier!". Lol. That's hilarious. Super epic that the dev team will focus on fixing something like a bug that occurs when placing an item on a stand, rather than, I dunno, the bugs that render an entire population of bedrock users and an entire platform from being able to access core gameplay. Again, this is just Microsoft signalling their priorities.
WORKAROUND: Buy a realm. No, seriously. When I had heard there was some sort of issue with the servers, a thought popped into my head. "It couldn't be!" I said to myself, but I had to confirm what kind of issue the servers were having. Since the issues appear to be happening exclusively on the normal servers accessed during free play for multiplayer, but not for paid play/realms, it's pretty clear what issues Mojang is having. I'm laughing really hard right now. Would absolutely LOVE a dev/mojang or microsoft rep to come down here and explain exactly what this online issue is. Seriously, I bet the F2P peeps would love to know. Hilarious stuff you guys.

Have to agree that this bug makes playing and enjoying the game very difficult for me. I spend more time waiting around for the game to unfreeze and dreading the next moment or autosave (which usually signals it, but not always). I also have to agree that with this software being on the Switch, and the Switch versions aren't updated as often/usually receive updates at a slower pace, this is kind of not a real good way to tackle it. I was actually able (and had few problems) playing 1.9. It's odd to me that this update could so thoroughly break my game. I've tried everything, and it's frustrating with the background feeling that Switch development is slower. How long did it take to fix banners? I love Minecraft, and I love Mojang. I just feel that for those of us who play MC on the Switch almost exclusively, especially with lack of another option, it's not ideal. I spent the same amount of money as other Bedrock users. Please show Switch a little love.
Here's some comments after a few more days with 1.10.
I still suspect there's something really fishy around auto-save. (1) and (2) combined really exacerbate each other. I'm suspicious for (3), if I happen to try and save exit the game at one of the numerous moments where it wants to auto-save, it freezes.
Disabling multiplayer does not improve slowdowns when game is autosaving. I have multiplayer toggle disabled on my world, I also tried playing completely offline (Switch in airplane mode) - but it can still take 15 seconds or more to access chest, inventory or furnace or for blocks to disappear when mined/appear when placed when game is autosaving.
I hate to say it, but 1.9 version was more playable then this. Framerate was awful, but I never had to wait more then second or 2 for chest to open.
I'm sorry but the update on this issue is completely false. Disabling multiplayer does exactly nothing for the problem. The game still freezes every minute for several seconds, there are consistent framedrops and opening any chests, your inventory or even crafting causes the game to stutter a lot. I'm starting to wonder if this game is even being play tested on Switch because if one were to play for only 5 minutes it already would have been extremely obvious that something is wrong.
It's impossible to play survival like this, because during the stutters mobs are still able to attack you while you (the player) aren't able to respond to them. I'm honestly annoyed that this means that I'm essentially locked out of my game until 1.11 comes out. Assuming that it's fixed by then at least, because I kind of expected that it would've been fixed this update.
I get that it's a difficult bug to fix and all but come on... Somehow it became even worse with 1.10...

Disabling multiplayer doesn't change anything. Accessing chests or mining while autosave is happening causes exceptionally poor performance. This would be moderately acceptable except the game only spends 10-15 seconds between each autosave.
i literally freeze less than every minute, and most of th time i see the auto save icon in the top right.
I can attest to this. 1.10 fixed the random frame drops, but along with it came this stupid freeze/lock up that happens way too frequently. Disabling multiplayer didn't help at all, and the game locks up so frequently that it's not even fun. Bugs like these are the reason people stop playing the game.
Absolutely. The game is borderline unplayable even in singleplayer.
And you can forget split screen multiplayer unless you like pausing for up to a minute every time someone opens a chest, goes through a portal or even runs too fast into an unloaded chunk.
By the time my autosave is done, it starts autosaving again. What I don't understand is, are there like people who aren't effected by this? And how so? If this is a Switchwide problem, why is there no plan to deal with everyone basically not being able to play the game on an entire system when an update is released? Did anyone test this version on the switch for longer than five seconds? Because my version of the game isn't playable in half that time almost constantly. I was hoping maybe this many people effected might get their attention/get more of an updated response than "Hey guys, we know and heres this sort of workaround that does absolutely not help. Anyway enjoy our game till the next update in two months! Hope that fixes that so we don't have to wait another!"
I can also say that this freezing also occurs on multiplayer servers just as often as in singleplayer world's, it's definitely a very annoying problem and I hope this gets fixed soon.
I can say these types of things are ALSO affecting pocket and windows 10. Yet my reports on the matter are always ignored. 1.10 didn't fix anything, it made it worse. I can't play mc at all regardless of what I use. Except I get the worst lag when chunks are loading.
In 1.09.0 the game was lagged but playable. In 1.10.0 the game has became literally unplayable for me. My wife and I play on two separate Nintendo Switch systems, two copies of the game, both using the same connection, both playing at different times (sometimes together, sometimes not). While her Nintendo Switch experiences issues, my Nintendo Switch can barely function through the load screen, much less in game itself. This problem is new as of 1.10.0: a moment ago I started the game five minutes before my wife, by the time I hit the main menu to login she had already picked up her Switch, entered the game, logged into the server and was destroying things. All in all, my login to the server can now take upwards of 5-10 minutes from start to finish.
To make matters worse (also new to 1.10.0) the game will be functioning normally and then suddenly slow down to a crawl if not freeze altogether. I understand some people state this is relative to system saves and I understand the reasons, but this seems more related to system resources directly? In one area in particular on our server we have a number of entities on screen: villagers, numerous blocks, wood buildings, torches, flowers, greenery, all sorts of things - it's prone to be a lag haven even under the best conditions. And under 1.10.0 the area can't be entered on my Switch; I'm kicked off the server as soon as I try to enter it - a complete lag out.
Moving around from area to area, we played Minecraft (I built in a few different spots) for about an hour earlier. I was kicked from the server at least 8 or 9 times according to my wife, she continued playing on the same server with very few issues. While there are some slow downs for her, overall she's still playing (2+ hours in) and I can't even attempt it. Again, these are two different Nintendo Switch systems, two different copies of Minecraft, same versions, same connection, and it happens like this no matter if we're both playing or I'm the only one playing. My Nintendo Switch is not a fan of this version of Minecraft.
It's also worth noting we're paying for the 10 person edition of the Minecraft server with Mojang. We are not using servers based on our Nintendo Switch systems. I will update when and if this condition changes, but as far as we're concerned this issue/these issues is/are not fixed.
I found a workaround for the load screen taking forever. We have 5 different users on the Nintendo switch and we found that 1 of them was able to load fast and the rest took around 5 to 10 minutes. I found that the difference between them was the number of save games. So I did a test. If i removed all the save data from the switch for an account that was slow it fixed it. I went from 10 minute load times to something really reasonable. The game play also worked much better. So if you want a quick fix and dont care about saved data, just nuke the save data, or start a new user and you can at least play it again.
Adam P Cloud: That's excellent information, and if reducing the number of saved games helps other people as well, it not only gives us an additional workaround, it also points the developers to something specific that might be a previously unrecognized bug.
To the Switch community: If you are able to try Adam's workaround, we would very much like to hear from you. Please leave a comment telling us whether it helped, and how much. Comments that it didn't help are also welcome, if that's the case.
I was able to mitigate the long load times by erasing all saved game data for a user as well. It doesn't seem to affect this framerate problem in this issue, but it does fix the slow load times for a time. I'm not sure why the switch reports saved game data to be in chunks of 512MB anyway. Minimum saved game data size is enormous. If I try to download my 450mb realm, saved game data size grows to well over 2GB and most times I am unable to complete to full download due to a "connection error" that occurs. It seems like when this connection error occurs, the downloaded data is not removed either, as starting over just adds to the huge saved game data size. Even removing individual saved data like textures or worlds does not change to overall size – only erasing the entire saved game data for a user can fix it. Even with a freshly erased saved game data, one login/logout makes it 512MB again. So yes erasing the entire saved game data for a user does restore quick load times for my Switch. It is a per-user scenario too... only users with small saved-game data sizes are helped. Note: Other games only ever have saved game data sizes of little over a few megabytes, ever, by the way.
I just tried with my US account that has no game saves (used for eShop only). I copied my world using realm.
No help - slowdowns during autosave (opening chests, inventory etc.) are still there, I also had couple freezes and one hang where I had to shutdown the game from Switch home menu.
Marek Kedzierski: I didn't mean to suggest that reducing the number of saved games would help with the lag/slowness issues discussed earlier in this report. In fact, I think it's an entirely separate issue that should be in its own report, as it apparently only affects the loading time. I'm just trying to find out how common it is among Switch users, because the more we can break these performance problems into separate issues, the more we'll help the developers identify the causes and fix the problems.
Hi, have the exact same issue. Have two switch consoles, both intermittently freezing and dropping off from servers (or other people's games) every few minutes.
Even on local Lan it still suffers the same issues.
Very frustrating and unplayable, which is a shame as both consoles, games and online subscriptions were purchased for Minecraft alone.
I did multiple test sessions with my friend and he disconnects from my Worlds Everytime the game does the short/long freeze.

By tweaking the render distance down to 5, it's become a little bit more stable in both multi- and singleplayer. The game will freeze during saves, but if I let it be long enough the game eventually resumes. With the 1.10 update it only got worse

I'm really surprised that over 2 months have elapsed and we still haven't gotten an update from the developers.
Oh well, I stopped playing for now because it's such a drag to get anything done in the game like this. But my realm subscription which I paid for is still going, nice.
I have the same issue, i am paying for a realm for others and i cannot play the game myself.
My sister and I are experiencing both bug issues with the online multiplayer bug for Switch and the extreme lag, especially with the UI. This however has been happening for us since 1.8.0 or so. The lag occurs in local play as well. It’s been so severe at times my game has crashed and closed because of an error. It’s also affecting chuck loading. I’ve waited as long as one minute for the world to load the next part of the terrain; we’ve even reduce our rendering distance. Nothing is working and the game is barely playable.
I have been reading through all comments and combining it with my experience I think there is something wrong on a more general level with the game on Switch. Maybe there is some kind of data stream oversight that makes this happen. Because the freezes occur far less frequently when you stay in a small confined area. But even then, they are still there and happen basically every minute as opposed to multiple times a minute.
The fact that nothing in the graphics settings or whatever do anything for the bug further indicates that it's a bug within a fundamental part of the game like I said before.
Also to everyone who has this issue please upvote this bug as we Switch players definitely deserve to have this fixed. While I did hear that there is a skilled developer assigned to this bug we never have gotten a concrete update on it so who knows if they are still making progress?
Ok so i have been playing with this bug for weeks and have noticed a few things. Lag spikes occurr more regularly when a player has an effect (turtle helmet effect or conduit/beacon effect). Also when i have a cluttered inventory including a couple of shulkers i get lag spikes more often. Also changing the game settings to the minimum has little to no change on the lag spikes. Audio and game loading is slow and stuttery. Id like to suggest switch users get some compensation for this if possible. Gd luck with the repair.
Yeah a compensation for Realm subscriptions would be great, people who have a Realm are essentially just throwing away their money. Kinda baffling and unprofessional, especially seeing how big Minecraft Bedrock in particular is.
Please remember that they said a bug like this will take longer to fix, waiting can be hard to do but remember the more info we can find on this issue the faster we can get it fixed, yes things don't look good atm with how the game is running but asking for things like a realm subscription just won't help.
Hey Ali I get that it doesn't help and I agree that patience is very important. And I also have shared all information I got about the issue. But would you call this approach customer friendly? Because I certainly wouldn't.
You have to remember that in the end, Minecraft is a product, and we are the consumers. Currently, we have a product that's broken in a very fundamental way. If it were a product you bought from a physical retailer you could've returned it or get it resolved through warranty. But because Minecraft is a game they have a different approach. We are just being told to wait. It's not quite the ideal way to communicate with your customers so don't defend them for that it's plain wrong.
Also reminder that we're essentially losing money through our subscription because they made a mistake. If this were to happen in basically any other industry then they would've to resolve it with compensation in some shape or form. It's perfectly normal but I know that it won't happen because this is a video game after all lol
Let's not forget that other games get playtested thoroughly and they pay people to find bugs and fix them before release. With Minecraft they let us do the bug finding work as volunteers and still expect us to just accept our losses with this. Alright then!

We do appreciate your continued patience, thank you! I wanted to repeat a few things I've said before in case there are some new people here who haven't read through all the earlier comments (and with 160 of them, who can blame them?).
Play-testing is a serious priority at Mojang and is not taken lightly or given short shrift. Keep in mind that with hundreds of millions of users, play-testing is simply not going to reproduce every style of play on every platform used in the community. I don't mean to minimize the impact of these problems to you, but there are lots of Switch players who are not (or not as seriously) affected by them, and it's very possible that the play-testing team wasn't either.
We're tracking what we think are several distinct performance problems, some of which affect all platforms, not just the Switch. For example,
MCPE-41772covers lag when opening inventory, crafting, or using shulker boxes. This ticket is only for Switch-specific problems, so progress made on other tickets should help improve performance for you even though you don't see it reflected in this ticket. (Incidentally, you might want to search for other recent tickets reporting performance issues. You may find workarounds that can help your device as well.)As a reminder, the purpose of the bug tracker is to collect and organize reports of bugs from the community and to pass them to the developers. We don't get status updates (until a bug is fixed) so we can't keep you informed here. For questions about progress, you can ask a Community Manager on the Minecraft Discord; they have direct access to the developers and know who's working on which problem; we don't. Yes William and Lars I'm not part of the Team or customer care (whatever that means) I'm just understanding where Auldrick is coming from so I'm trying to help a little with just finding more info so a solution can be made, nothing more than that
Here are my experiences with this bug on the switch.
In-game, the game freezes every couple minutes or so, and when opening the settings menu and exiting, the game freezes for about a minute. Every single time I close the settings. And when it freezes, the music starts to stutter as well and goes back to normal after the game stops freezing. The freezing also happens in servers and can be just as long. while at the main menu, the freezing doesn't occur as much as in game, it usually happens when the game boots up. Browsing the market place also isn't very smooth, it feels laggy and stuttery. So far that's all the issues I've had, other smaller issues is that sometimes when opening chests it takes time to load the chest interface, but I'm pretty sure it's just my wi-fi, also, sometimes while mining blocks the blocks just disappear and in a about a second the animations and sound for breaking the block plays. But that doesn't happen so much. Thanks for reading this and I hope it help 😃

Update #1:
I remember I wasn't seeing any of the freezes before, but I was playing docked only. After I switched to handheld AND also log into my Microsoft account (for achievements) — things started getting worse. The size of my world was 10MB but after I traveled a lot — it became 60MB. I think after this I started noticing small freezes, then it became more and more visible. Freezes mostly appear during auto-save, also auto-save is very frequent, like, every 1-2 minutes? So the freezes appear around this period too.
I think we should also blame Nintendo for not allowing saves to be on SD card. I think internal memory can cause such stutters and freezes. But that's just my opinion, because if you search for speed comparison between internal memory and SD card — the difference is very small. Switch is kinda interesting but very strange (regarding performance) system.
Also maybe you should provide an option to increase or even disable auto-save feature? Maybe it will help somehow.
I hope developers will fix this problem because more and more users are complaining about this bug. We believe in you (well, me at least)!
Update #2:
So, I'm trying to find the pattern to all of these freezes and I found strange behavior. I entered my world and started playing, the internet was on and I was logged into my Microsoft account. Two things happened before — I changed my skin to the new one (from the new pack with pets) and it keeps resetting itself every time I open the game (new bug?). Also, the background changed itself from jungle theme to village one.
I started playing and noticed NO lags or freezes at all. Auto-saving was saving my world like every 3-6 or even more minutes (not like every minute or so?). I was playing nicely and everything was fine until I paused the game and left my Switch on for a while. After some time it went to sleep mode. I came back, turned it on, clicked "Continue" and started playing again. And oh the hell begins — all the freezes I mentioned before came back! And auto-saving feature was furious and my world was saving itself, like, every minute. And I couldn't fix it anymore. Closing and reopening the game didn't help. Haven't tried to restart this moment, but I remember that this didn't help either. I don't know how my world becomes playable again, but now I know that it can (probably) become unplayable again if you put your Switch to sleep mode while playing in your world. And I mean REAL sleep mode (put it in sleep mode and wait a minute or more to let the console fully enter sleep mode).
Also about another bug: I remember having ultra frame-drop to 20-30 FPS when I was hosting a game on my Switch. But I haven't had them when the game was hosted by my friend or a player I was playing with.
I'm downloading 1.11 now and beginning to test it, I hope this Freezing bug is fixed because I don't want to wait until 1.12 to actually play the game again.
So my game is still freezing every 2 minutes and idk what's causing it, I'm wondering now how it passed Certification because this is a major Update, I don't think anyone here wants to wait until 1.12 for the game to be playable, so a hotfix would REALLY be appreciated at this point
The only new info I've gotten from this problem is that Switch multiplayer friends disconnect from Worlds when their game freezes which is the problem my friend is having....
No improvement whatsoever in 1.11. Is anyone even working on it or are Switch players just ignored?
I would like to join my voice to the numerous comments already there.
We used to be playing MC with my kids with the Switch hosting the game. Now we can't anymore because we keep having freezes followed by frequent disconnections. And when I say frequent, it can sometimes be every minute or so. As a result the game is totally unplayable.
I work in gamedev industry and I can understand of course that sometimes bugs happen and that under some circumstances they can be hard to fix. But I definitely can't understand how such a major regression (because it used to work alright) can be kept for so many weeks without Mojang being able to fix it. I seriously can't find any technical reason why this is still unresolved... That's a disgrace for the whole team work, but I'm sure it's more a management fault than a bad will.
I'll just add a few more information in case it helps pinpoint the bug:
I'm also getting a constant "Disconnected from Internet" message on my Switch even tho I stay connected to my wifi, idk if this is another symptom to these problems but I'm putting it here anyways.
I've found out the freezing happens less frequently when the multiplayer toggle is disabled in Worlds, I was playing on my own and my game didn't freeze but as soon as my friend joined I froze alot of times and he disconnected from it, Servers are multiplayer entirely so that explains why it happens there aswell.
Yup, still having the same issues after 1.11.0. I'm also getting disconnected from servers within 2-3 minutes.
1.11.0 made everything worse. I’ve disconnected from my sister and I’s world playing both local and online. The game crashed because of the freezing, and has disconnected me from the internet even though I’m still connected when J return to the Switch home screen. We are still having the issue with not being able to connect to the world using the online network (I experience this the most since the world is on her account).
What are you doing bedrock team? Some of these issues have been going on since 1.6.0 back in October or so of 2018, and all people have been met with are radio silence. Please do something.
I have to say, the framerate is much worse in 1.11.0 in Windows 10. I didn't have as much problem with this in previous versions either compared to what people on here were saying.

Maybe that's because we play on the Switch, while you play on Windows 10? This gamebreaking glitche(s) and bug(s) have been confirmed to be plaguing the Switch version of bedrock since the 1.8.0 update? You realize these bug reports are sorted not just by service, but by platform as well? This bug report (which has been duplicated by like 45 different links, including over 10 on the front pages that haven't even been linked yet) is for the Nintendo Switch.
Bug reports are not generally sorted by platform and most tickets aren't specific to a platform. We are using this ticket to track performance problems that seem to be specific to the Switch because there are other tickets for more general performance issues across platforms (including the Switch), but we don't usually make tickets platform-specific.
By the way, some of those cross-platform performance problems have seen a lot of improvement recently, which should have helped Switch users too. Unfortunately, for some of you the Switch-specific problems are severe enough that it may seem as if nothing has gotten better, but eliminating interference from the more general performance problems should help bring the Switch-specific causes into better focus and make it easier for the developers to address them.
Addressing the questions in earlier comments, let me remind you that the bug tracker's purpose is to collect information about bugs and pass it to the developers. We don't have access to them directly and don't get status reports on what they're doing, so we can't answer such questions. One of the Community Management team's tasks is to get those answers for you, and it's also their job to present your concerns and opinions to Mojang, so you'd do far better to contact them directly.
I play on Switch too primarily... and the problem is there but lesser. I have a report resolved because it is a duplicate of this one for Switch, in fact. Gimme a break. I'm just inputting that this may no longer just be a Switch issue, which I confirm.
Performance has improved slightly while opening and closing chests or any inventory but when it comes to general gameplay its at times unplayable.
I can confirm the fps greatly reduces depending on the the number of entities colliding or on the ground. I noticed this in the end dimension and recreated it by spawning many guardians and also mining with haste
Auldrick, how are bug reports not sorted by platform when you literally need to input a platform I.E, Switch, Xbox One, in order to upload a ticket? (Which are then sorted by service, as I stated, such as bedrock or Java)?? I mean, lol.
As I said, most bugs affect all platforms in the same way (because 90% of the code is used on all platforms). But there are exceptions, and when a bug is reported we need you to tell us your platform so that we know of one that it's known to occur on. Otherwise we might just spin our wheels trying to reproduce it on the wrong one, and failing.
I should probably also mention that for Bedrock, it would be useful if the platform field allowed multiple values, but the software we use is written by a third party and doesn't support that. So initially we assume a bug occurs on all platforms, and it's only after the report has collected a few comments that we start to consider whether it might actually be platform specific. In this case, all the early comments were from people who said they were using the Switch, so we split the Switch issues off on their own and are using other reports to track the performance problems that cross platforms, such as lag that occurs when opening your inventory/crafting table.
I took your earlier comment to mean that you thought reports were sorted into separate bins (metaphorically speaking), but they aren't. They all go into one database, even Java and console editions, but they're indexed so we can sort them by platform (or any other field) if we need to. It's just that we don't usually need to sort them by platform.
Is the Mojang dev team even aware of the severity of this bug and have been notified how much the game is unplayable in these conditions ? Having noone from the dev team monitoring the bugs seems like a big problem, if I understood correctly.
They're well aware. When I say "the devs" I usually mean the people who write the code and fix the bugs, but the Community Management team are on the development team too and the bug tracker is one of the ways they track the user experience. Plus, I have pinged them about this specific ticket twice since 1.11 dropped a few days ago. But I don't have your problem (I don't even have a Switch) so I can't properly represent your concerns and frustrations. Also, I'm not an insider, despite what you may think, and I can't answer your questions on their behalf because I don't work for Mojang and it's not what the bug tracker is for anyway. That's why I keep stressing that you need to take your concerns to Community Management yourself. They exist to represent you to Mojang and vice versa, so use them, please!
@Auldrick well thanks for pinging them about this it does help, I don't really take my concerns to the community managers because I sometimes think they don't understand everything that might break in an update wether it's a bug or something else, I'd find it a bit weird going to them and asking if "X" is fixed in the next update or when will "Y" be added, but maybe I'm wrong.
New update:
Today since 1.11 didn't fix anything we tried playing using a Realm instead of having the Switch host the game. Both PC and iPad were not having any problem but the Switch had exactly the same problem was when it hosts the game : frequent network freezes resulting in disconnected from server message. Only this time it was the Switch that was disconnected from the Realm instead of other players being disconnected from the Switch.
Using the new update, 1.11.0 (Nintendo Switch), and no fix. Now the problem is even worse: I can't even get into the loading screen without a crash (literally takes a few times before I'm able to select a realm).
Interesting note: On trying to load the game just now, my wife noted the menu background had changed from yesterday to the villagers/pillagers screen. This wasn't here yesterday. She logged into the realm and after a small amount of lag stated playing. So I tried to login and the game still took forever for me. When I got to the login screen (after about three to five minutes of waiting for the Mojang loading screen to disappear), we saw the background had changed on my console as well. Good news! .. bad news: suddenly, like yesterday, Minecraft complained I did not have an internet connection (which I do) and then the login screen background changed to the Aquatic version. For over 300+ hours each with two Switches on the same network, we have played this game together with no issues. I state this to clarify it is not a network bug. My wife is playing the game beside me (on Realms) at the same time I am trying this.
I was connected using a Wired account with the Switch (I use this as I play on the television), and my wife uses Wireless. I switched to Wireless after having this communication problem and then logged back into Minecraft. Same problem, communication error, could not connect. Aquatic update background still showing. My avatar changed completely. It's also worth noting that when I go back to the games' screen on the Nintendo Switch (the main menu to get to the settings menu), the entire system lags for at least half a minute. Telling the Switch to force close the game also causes lag for at least half a minute. It's literally unplayable on my system.
Yet my wife sits beside me playing just fine.
Just a note to thank you all for continuing to update this ticket with your experiences, and for your gracious patience. As other non-Switch-specific performance issues get eliminated, your experiences should prove helpful in isolating the Switch-specific issues' causes.
The menu screen panorama has been mentioned a few times. I learned from a Community Management livestream a few days ago that it's not "baked into the game" (Gartzke's words), but downloaded during startup as part of the patch notes (the notes that appear the first couple of times you open a new release), So it's probably not related to your performance issues over and above network performance problems in general, and I imagine the devs are already alert to that possibility. I just thought you all would like to know that the panorama isn't downloaded with the release.
Both my kids have a switch, and both can't be in multiplayer without being kicked. In single player, it lags so bad, the game will be at a standstill for up to 20 seconds.
If you pause the game it easily takes 5 seconds to get into or out of a menu.
Everything about the switch version right now can summed up with: multiplayer kicks you, everything else takes a 1000x's longer than it should in menus, and the game lags to the point your character doesn't move for seconds.
Michael Tramel's comment explains my situation to a T. My Switch hosts the Realm that my SO and I play in. The game is unplayable on my Switch while has no problems at all.
I have found a solution to get smooth fps.. I guess you already know but incase you dont . I created a new nintendo account which does not link to my windows live account and started to play in offline mode with flawless gameplay. I have spoken to developers on discord and they are working on it. Thank you helen angel...
@William they are working on the freezing or are people still having frame rate issues? It was fixed in 1.10 for me

This game has been performing very poor since 1.9.0 then 1.10 made it even worse and now 1.11 is completely unplayable!
I pay 8 euros a month now to play on a realm but the game has been mostly unplayable online for 2 months..

Well thats ridiculous. . I'll never pay for a realm ever again or any other thing by Mojang. I don't like playing single player so I guess I'll just finally drop this game and wait for Hytale.

@Ali Djeffal - What I find odd is that as soon as I start up the game it already freezes, then when I login to my microsoft account it freezes some more. then I go to the realms section and it freezes even more. When I finally get on my realm I can play for about 2/3 minutes then it freezes again and I get kicked of the realm. When you turn on third person view it instantly freezes the game and gets you kicked off the realm.
I just don't understand how they release these updates like that.. It feels like the quality of this game has been degrading more and more everyday since 1.9.0, and the thought of having to wait till 1.12 for them to (possibly) fix this kinda frustrates me.
That's why I don't feel like continue paying for a realm I can't even play on.
I've been testing the new 1.11.1 update with the three switches at our house, all joining a single game, for a few hours now. Results are critically poor, to the point that I will be requesting refunds of all three titles from the retailer.
The two consoles joining are being disconnected on average every 1min 3secs, with a 1min 7secs load time to join the game again. Basically we are only able to play 50% of the time, 1min intervals.
How there can be such a critical issue existing after so long is beyond me. Happy to test where I can but to buy three consoles, three copies of a game and online service to get this kind of result is shockingly poor.
So far v 1.11.1 no lag on reamls so i update if i do get any but so far good so i don't know how i did not think of it so far look like memory leak fix it im going to play for 6hr if any issues i update

Just downloaded the hotfix update. Performance seems to have improved a little bit, but still getting randomly disconnected from the realm every couple minutes. Chunks take way longer to load then before especially while flying (since the 1.11.0 update and also 1.11.1)
It seems like you can't take too long typing when you use the chat or it will freeze and disconnect you from the realm.
When I use rockets while flying with elytra sometimes the rocket effect won't stop working for like 20 seconds.. which is pretty cool tbf but definitly a bug. Also started doing the swimming animation on land when using riptide a couple of times.
@todd boyd - I play on Wi-Fi as I can't get the ethernet cable hub thing to work.. I get kicked off the realm almost immediately if I watch a youtube video while playing now. Which has never been a problem before but started happening since 1.11. Well thank you Mojang for atleast trying but it's still not playable online for me.
Hi rob i know how it feels. Im in the same boat. If you do stop paying for your realm send me your gamertag and you can join my realm. Mature players no griefers. Has a discord server. I found i get lag spikes during game chat on switch
Ok update im on Ethernet Adapter, USB 3.0 to RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet Lan Network Adapter
On adapter with google dns 54down and 2up
I try have tried
typing in chat on reamls no issues and no disconnect from the realm.
Try riptide lvl 3 a couple of times and game freeze for 1min
Try render distance 14 and 12 and freeze in game for 1min
I have no disconnect issues yet
And only one on my realms at this time
So for me look like it freezes from to much going on so my guess memory leak is not 100% fix yet
@Rob summer if u need any help with Ethernet Adapter, im happy to help

Using the 1.11.1 hotfix, I've new information to report.
When I logged in after the hotfix was finished updating, the Aquatic update background shown. I continued having multiple "could not connect" issues when attempting to login to my user account.
I then had the idea to, using the handheld mode only, delete my Minecraft data once the card was removed. I replaced the card and installed the game, and on loading the background showed correct for the new villagers update. I logged in! Already, things were on the up and up.
I changed my skin while the game froze for at least fifteen seconds doing so. I came back to the menu after the skin change, again: freeze, and then tried to enter the realm. The realms screen was brought up, I selected the realm, and loaded into the realm for the first time in a month. BIG success.
My wife was wanting to play at this point, so she logged into her account. She logged into the realm. Keep in mind she has had minimal issues (lag, sound problems) playing the game after the updates. When she logged in my account was immediately disconnected from the realm. Internet connectivity was fine, still is, and it's worth noting again we have over 300+ hours playing this game simultaneously together on the same connection, nothing has changed on our end.
I then logged back into the server, my wife still playing, and the game loaded! I thought things might be on the up and up. I logged back in and connected for about thirty seconds, suddenly I was disconnected without warning again. Frustrated, I logged back in again and the game worked for about three to four minutes. I started lagging to the point where playing became impossible. After about five minutes the game kicked me and my wife still played like nothing ever happened.
She's been playing nonstop for the last twenty minutes. My Nintendo Switch idled out a second ago, and I brought it back from it's brief afk. Minecraft then noted a communication error had occurred. I'm no longer logged into a Nintendo account. I logged back in, my wife still playing, and immediately it told my wife I had left the realm. I never saw the world, much less had the opportunity to move in it.
My wife is still playing.
So the game has been completly unplayable online for 2 weeks now.
I'll try to be helpful here:
-When I get on the realm other players who are not on Switch start having extreme lag spikes.
-When I'm within the render distance of a friend I seem to get disconnected even faster.
-When I hang around my guardian farm I get disconnected almost immediately (very high spawn rate)
-Standing still for about a minute gets me kicked off the realm.
-Third person view freezes the game and gets me kicked off.
-Using the chat freezes the game and gets me kicked off.
Why don't Mojang themselves atleast put out some kind of official statement? Saying something like ''yeah sorry guys we know mc has been unplayable since 1.9, we're working on it''
At this point people who play on Switch should atleast get some kind of warning before purchasing a Realm, about how it's basically just throwing your money away.
Are we supposed to get excited when we hear a new update is coming?
Because it only seems to bring in more and more game breaking bugs every time. Like the inventory lag, how do you just release the update like that and make us wait a month for it to be fixed? When you guys test play, do you have some kind of beefed up Nintendo Switch? Because if you would have test played on a regular Switch you would have noticed that the game in UNPLAYABLE and definitly not ready for release..
Oh and thank you @William, I'll think about it if I will continue paying for Realms next month... If the game is still broken by the end of this week DEFINITLY NOT!
Well you are welcome anytime . My gamertag is welshdevilxd . Also @audrick we do need some feedback as we are paying monthly and have purchased content. If nintendo switches arent viable to play realms we deserve some feedback. As far as we are concerned this section has become a forum for frustrated switch users which we all understand isnt helpful. Again give us feedback directly from the developers on this bug fix.
Before i forget i get two types of lag spikes one is where the world around me freezes but i can move around frozen entities, the other is everything freezes including the player. I have screenshots and video footage which may help
I'm certainly not saying you don't deserve feedback about these issues, and I'd really like to get some as well. Understand this: I was invited to help here because I wanted to help the community, not because I wanted to help Mojang. Even though I don't have a Switch myself, I feel your frustrations and I'm as disappointed as you when you report with each new release that it's still unplayable. But I don't have access to the developers or Community Management beyond what you yourselves have through other channels, so I can't get the answers for you. I could go on the Discord and ask, same as you,, but it makes no sense for me to play middleman when I don't have the problem and can't answer questions the Community Managers might have about it. That's why I keep urging you to use the channels available to you for the purpose. And if you would, it would be great if you could ask them to answer in a comment on this ticket as well.
Michael Tramel: It would be really interesting to find out what happens if you and your wife trade Switches as an experiment. Would that be possible?
Apologies auldrick. Keep it the good work. (Sincerely mean that) . Another point to add. I went into the nether to explore and i noticed atleast 25 ghasts and atleast 200 zombie pigman which had spawned naturally . I do mean 200. I have screenshots. That amount of mobs causes lag on switch . I used /kill command to restore fps but as they respawn naturally i expect it again. Maybe mob caps are broken?
The last I knew, the global mob cap is 200 and it counts all mobs in your player ticking area, so that makes sense. This is a good illustration of why mob spawning is "broken" according to a lot of people. The reason the cap is 200 is because when the mobs are evenly spread over 54 chunks (the size of the player ticking area at the default simulation distance of 4), that's only about 4 mobs per chunk, including surface and cave spawns. They're even sparser at higher simulation distances. But in a lot of cases, they don't spawn evenly spread, and then it seems like there are too many concentrated in one spot. The whole spawning scheme needs to be redesigned, but it's really hard to come up with something that fits the game spirit but works reasonably well across all platforms, different memory sizes, and (the most variable element of all) world designs. And in any case, different people want different things. Some want to do battle with lots of hostile mobs, others don't want any at all, and most want something in between.
An alternative to using /kill is to momentarily set your Difficulty to Peaceful and back. This simply erases all the hostile mobs and it takes a while for them to build up again. I'm not crazy about using it in my survival world—it feels like I'm cheating—but sometimes it's the only way I can get my mob farm spawning again since 1.11 came out.

As mentioned previously, please remember that there is not always a simple fix that will resolve the issue immediately, and there are often multiple causes for poor performance issues. Recent updates have made some improvements, but we are still investigating and working on bug fixes for the ongoing issues.

While I know where you're going with this idea (and I completely agree with testing your theory), I am worried about the potential what-ifs considering my wife's Switch is mostly untainted by this bug's issue. She legitimately enjoys playing the game; I might be beheaded if by, somehow, my problems became her problems.
Mega_Spud: If there's anything I can submit personally in assistance to this bug (logs, video footage, etc., minus using my wife's aforementioned Switch), I'd be more than happy to. Good luck in it's resolution.
