Villager babies have no profession
The bug
When you spawn in a villager with an egg, it has a profession, but if you breed / use a spawn egg the villager will make a villager that has the old farmer skin, but when it grows up it has no profession, and no trade. And this 'non-villager' seems to be dominate ( always a non-villager ) when having a kid.

This villager can also be summoned using:
/summon villager ~ ~ ~ {VillagerData:{profession:"minecraft:none",level:*doesn't matter which level*,type:"minecraft:none"}}
Relates to MC-140961, as it is another case where villagers have a chance to have a profession of "none".

If the villagers are huddled in their houses, that would mean its nighttime. If by "baby mode" you mean baby villagers, currently, due to MC-140961, they can't trade when they grow up.

Caused by MC-140961,baby zombie villagers have profession when they spawn.

This villager can also be summoned using:
/summon villager ~ ~ ~ {VillagerData:{profession:"minecraft:none",level:*doesn't matter which level*,type:"minecraft:none"}}Relates to
MC-140938, as it is another case where villagers have a chance to have a profession of "none".Yellow01, but are these the green robed villagers? And is this an intended thing?
Those aren't green-robed villagers. Those are villagers with their profession defined as minecraft:none.
Baby villagers growing up with no profession probably isn't intended. Additionally, they don't have a name defined (similarly to
MC-140938), further proving that they aren't intended to have no profession. This bug probably occurs because the baby villagers are trying to randomize the Profession tag, which no longer exists in favor of the VillagerData tag
Can confirm. I let a breeder run and all of the babies became without any profession after they grew up (or with profession named minecraft:none).
in addition to what is stated above. bred and got two villager kids. and result is none.
I also noticed many houses in savannah village set only spawned 3 profession-type villagers, and did not comply with breeding "criteria" (village had 12 buildings, with total of 18 doors).
after noticing this, I changed door positions (flush to exterior walls) and add 6 more more doors.
I wonder if the savannah village-breeding criteria failure caused the kid then grown into grownup villager become "nothing" profession.
Same happened to me for self created village in plains biome.
World was created in 48a, I noticed bug in 50a.
All villagers, with no exceptions, have minecraft:none profession, no matter what types of villagers bred them.
I can confirm that aswell, happens to all villager styles (i mean the new eg. desert or taiga villagers.
Code analysis (yarn mappings): (aqr.a)
@Nullable @Override public EntityData prepareEntityData(final IWorld iWorld, final LocalDifficulty localDifficulty, final SpawnType difficulty, @Nullable final EntityData entityData, @Nullable final CompoundTag compoundTag) { this.setSpecificGoals(); if (difficulty == SpawnType.BREEDING) { this.setVillagerData(this.getVillagerData().withProfession(VillagerProfession.NONE)); } if (difficulty == SpawnType.COMMAND || difficulty == SpawnType.SPAWN_EGG || difficulty == SpawnType.SPAWNER) { this.setVillagerData(this.getVillagerData().withType(VillagerType.forBiome(iWorld.getBiome(new BlockPos(this))))); } return super.prepareEntityData(iWorld, localDifficulty, difficulty, entityData, compoundTag); }The code for breeding spawn type check is the cause of no profession and may be a leftover stub.
Yup... 18w50a
Same problem
Same problem here! (18w50a)
every newborn will be the same farmer.
You can not click any of them (open trading menu)
the farmers do not go to the fields.
when will this get fixed?
Confirmed for 19w02a
Aye Mojang, there is a code analysis for you and you don't take the ripen fruit!
Please be patient, as they work on a lot of different existing things as well as develop new stuff.
Confirmed for 19w03a
resolved!
Yes
Guys....if it's resolved you made my day
It is in 19w03b
Not fixed in 19w03b
Noooooooooo
It's so annoying !
It is fixed for me in 19w03b. If you think it is still not fixed, please describe how you tested this.
I'm sad
I hope that mojang refix this bug in the next snapshot (or pre-release)
Ye
Please reopen it still present in 19w03b
Babies spawned don't appear to have any profession, but when they grow up into adults, they will and definitely have trades by then.
Another problem, they have now professions but they just have the initial trades and thats it. A cartographer just came with 30 papers for an emerald.
Jonatan - Cartographers only started with one trade in the last full release. Are you seeing other villagers that have only one trade? Or are you saying that you can't advance past the initial set of trades after making trades?
Babies have no clothes relate to any profession, yet once they grow up, they normally have a profession. But they still have a chance to be of profession "minecraft:none" as it seems to still be a possible selection from the pool of possible professions.
Excuse me for saying this, but while I certainly agree that what's being talked about here is a bug, I should point out that it doesn't make sense for villager children to have all the same clothes and gear as adults, and thus, this bug may offer some potential for giving rise to new features in the same way that the bug with generic villagers originally gave rise to the Nitwit profession...
So perhaps the best fix for this bug involves both upgrading the old villager skins in a similar fashion to the various biome-specific looks of the Nitwit profession while making it so that these skins only ever occur villager children, and, simultaneously preventing the "minecraft:none" profession from showing up on adults during normal gameplay, perhaps by making sure that the clothes of villager children give a hint as to their future profession; e.g. white-robed villager children may grow up to be either librarians or cartographers, purple-robed villager children become clerics, etc.)...
Sorry, but I'm not quite sure what site to post this comment on, seeing as it is both bug-related and feature-related...
For me this seems to be about 50/50 on working. The babies all look the same which I believe is the old farmer skin. When they grow all but one have gotten new villager skins. Just over half have been tradable and the rest have worked fine. I can't tell what the difference is.
Another issue is that a cured Villager won't trade. Just cured an armorer villager with weakness and apple. No trade for me :/
Twilight S. That's probably because your villager is a mason. They have no trade yet.
Comfirmed for 19w04a - all villager babies seem to have the default skin, but when they grow up they become normal villagers with trades and professions, except sometimes they don't (similar to summoning randomly summons a villager minecraft:none)
Confirmed for 19w04b and 19w05a as above
Please upgrade the affect versions list.
Confirmed for 19w06a
Confirmed for 19w07a
Can still randomly spawn a villager with profession minecraft:none from the profession pool in 19w08a.
Confirmed in 19w08b and 19w09a.
Confirmed for 19w11a
Behaviour changed; when the babies grow up, they don't get a random profession anymore so they remain without trades.
They need a working station in order to receive a profession, and it is now working as intended.
Confirmed in 19w11b and 19w12a.
Pretty sure this is working as intended, since when the villagers grow up they will need to find a job
With the latest changes to profession, yes. I guess this can be called "fixed", because it changed in a way that there is no longer a bug.
Yes but unemployed or nitwik babies villagers should have their biome-specific skin.
If their not having the right skin, then that is a different issue not related to this one
Done create new ticket issue:
MC-146594.Villages have child labor laws. Works as intended.
yea and what? do you think human children can have profession? (sorry for a bit bad english)
