Semi-transparent status effect textures do not render correctly in the inventory or beacon UI
The bug
When a status effect texture contains semi-transparent pixels, they are displayed correctly in the HUD, but in the inventory, semi-transparency doesn't seem to work.
To reproduce
Use the attached (NEW) bug.zip
resource pack and give yourself the glowing or bad omen (but in that case the bug is less visible) effect. The icon will display correctly in the HUD, but not in the inventory screen.

The bug
If a pack.png texture file is included in a resource pack, and said file has translucent pixels, those pixels will be rendered as entirely opaque in the resource packs menu.
This is one of a small handful of UI element translucency bugs, with others being MC-165182, MC-174732, MC-192307, MC-200987, MC-251303 and MC-268171. It may be worth looking at all of these together.
How to reproduce
- Download the attached resource pack
- Navigate to the resource packs menu
Expected results
The pack icon would be translucent, since pack.png is itself translucent (check inside of the zip if you want to confirm this).
Actual results
It is not.
The bug
The texture file used for the background of status effect panels in the inventory screen will render completely opaque if a texture is provided that contains translucent pixels.
This creates a notable inconsistency with the background texture for status effects used in the top right of the HUD when not in an inventory screen; these handle translucent pixels completely fine.
The cause of this may be linked to MC-174732; I'd recommend checking out all extant UI texture translucency issues alongside these two (that is: MC-165182, MC-200987, MC-251303, MC-268171, MC-269085)
How to reproduce
- Download and apply the attached resource pack
- Have a status effect active
- Look at the top right of your screen
- Look in your inventory
Expected results
The background panel at the top right of the screen would be translucent, and the one in the inventory would also be translucent.
Actual results
The background panel at the top right of the screen is indeed translucent. However, the one shown in the inventory is completely opaque.
Cause of issue is likely to be linked to MC-269083 - would recommend looking into this as well.
The bug
If the experience bar or jump bar is given a texture with translucent pixels, they will be rendered completely opaque in-game. This is in stark contrast to boss bars, as well as just about every other HUD texture - all support translucent pixels.
As of 1.20.5's development, some more UI textures render as opaque, however this results from a bug (MC-268171). As that bug is planned to be fixed, this case should likely be fixed as well, hopefully alongside other UI translucency problems (MC-165182, MC-174732, MC-200987, MC-251303, MC-269083).
How to reproduce
- Download and apply the attached resource pack
- Look at the experience bar
- Summon a wither and look at its boss bar
Expected results
The boss bar would be translucent, and the experience bar would also be translucent.
Actual results
The boss bar is indeed translucent. However, the experience bar is completely opaque.

The bug
If the textures used for buttons in the beacon UI contain translucent pixels, these will be rendered completely opaque in-game.
The same also goes for status effect icons, which are otherwise rendered fine in the HUD - see MC-174732.
How to reproduce
- Download and apply the attached resource pack
- Enter a beacon
- Observe
Expected results
Translucent buttons.
Actual results
Entirely opaque.

The bug
If textures used for stonecutter recipes contain translucent pixels, these incorrectly render as opaque in-game.
How to reproduce
- Download and apply the attached resource pack
- Put something in a stonecutter
- Observe
Expected results
Translucent buttons.
Actual results
Opaque buttons.
The overlay textures for the bogged and stray do not support translucent pixels. When present, they will be rendered totally opaque.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Apply the provided pack:
StrayBoggedTranslucent.zip
- Spawn a stray or bogged
Observed Behavior:
The translucent pixels in the texture will be opaque:
Expected Result:
Because the pixels in the texture are translucent, they would be rendered as such.
Notice in the bottom left how the opacity is set to 50%:

Can confirm in 20w51a.
In 1.18.1 and 22w03a.
Was this also the case prior to 1.14 (which caused MC-144009)?
In 1.18.2 and 22w19a.
Since the current owner is (Inactive) can this be transferred to me?
