The Bug:
The bedrock cuboid located below summoned end crystals is not included within end crystal hitboxes.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Summon an end crystal in the air by using the command provided below.
/summon minecraft:end_crystal ~ ~5 ~
- Enable entity hitboxes by pressing "F3 + B".
- Look at the bedrock cuboid part of the end crystal.
- Take note as to whether or not the bedrock cuboid located below summoned end crystals is included within end crystal hitboxes.
Observed Behavior:
The bedrock cuboid isn't included within end crystal hitboxes.
Expected Behavior:
The bedrock cuboid would be included within end crystal hitboxes.

Related to MC-11299.
There's a block of bedrock blocking you from hitting the crystal.
This bedrock block is not the reason for this also I tried in creative mode too and it would break there if it was blocking.
Confirmed.
The ender crystal cannot be destroyed, if the player is standing one block below the base of the crystal.

I can't seem to reproduce this. Could just be that their hitbox isn't that low and that you're hitting the obsidian/bedrock and not the End Crystal.
Can confirm in 20w51a.

Judging by the original reporter's screenshot ( 2013-03-08_12.58.25.png
), I believe the issue here is that the "bedrock cuboid" located below the actual end crystal isn't included within its hitbox. As a result of this, you can't hit the "bedrock cuboid" in order to make the end crystal explode, which I think is what the reporter is trying to state when they say, "cannot be hit with melee weapons from below". Regarding what I believe to be the issue here, I've rewritten this ticket and provided some attachments to accurately highlight the problem.
