The bug
The Ender Dragon is unable to destroy any type of minecart or boat. It simply passes through them.
How to reproduce
- Make a new Creative world.
- Construct an End Portal and enter it.
- Place down any kind of rail and place each type of minecart on the tracks. Place down a boat near the minecarts as well.
- Stand near the minecarts and boat and wait for the Ender Dragon to charge at you.
- When the Ender Dragon flys through you, notice the rails were destroyed but all minecarts remained intact.

The Ender Dragon is unable to destroy any type of minecart. It simply passes through them.
Steps to Reproduce:

The Ender Dragon can harm mobs, which are entities. When I took those pictures, I spawned an Enderman near the minecarts and the Ender Dragon was able to harm it. The Enderman then teleported around to chase the dragon.

Relates to MC-9381
When you are riding a boat/minecart, you are "stuck" in it until you press Shift to get out. This is intentional. Mobs cannot eject you from boats/minecarts. The problem lies from the ender dragon not affecting the boat itself. So I would say it's probably a duplicate of MC-9381.
Ender Chests are destroyed by the dragon as well, so that doesn't serve the same purpose at all.
Until encountering MC-9381, I'd never heard this behavior described as a bug. I'd say its a feature, that has been in the game since the dragon was introduced in version 1.0.0, and should stay. I think it is related to enderdragon's inability to harm you/other entities.
This makes absolutely no sense because FISHING a boat/minecart will break it.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 1.8.1 Prerelease 3 / Launcher version 1.5.3 or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Please keep the current behavior as-is, at least concerning minecart CHESTS.
I have a custom map that relies on helpful resources placed in the end dimension. Currently the only way to do that without the ender dragon destroying them is via Minecart chests. Please don't break my map!
I can also see situations where this would be helpful in normal survival, like dropping a minecart chest with extra arrows or potion before fighting the dragon (or before spawning a new one).
You could use a ender chest, but this is a discussion and https://reddit.com/r/Mojira would be the right place for thatEnder Chests are destroyed by the dragon as well, so that doesn't serve the same purpose at all.
